The Homestead Cabin is located next to the main house and has a queen size loft bed, three piece bathroom and a kitchenette with a mini fridge and microwave. Hands down this has to be included on the a short list of one of the best accommodations we have ever stayed in during our travels! Though located on the same property as the main house it always felt as though we were on our own slice of land adjacent to the trails around the creek that intersects the property. In fact it was the aforementioned trails that really set this place apart. The owner is participating in a conservation program and as such is restoring the riparian area around the creek. As part of the restoration he has created a loop of trails around this portion of the property that is located right at the front door of the cabin and offers great views and ample wildlife viewing opportunities. We traveled with our two German Shorthaired Pointers and this amenity was by far the most popular with all of us. If you know GSPs they are bundles of energy so this trail served as a great asset for us in the mornings and evenings for them to get their initial bursts of energy out and in turn to release their final bit of energy before bed time. One lap however was often not enough to tire them out completely so the owner graciously offered to lend us his really cool mountain bikes to ride them around turning a simple walk into a game of full out chase for the pups wearing them out far faster than we could have done without. Additionally the dogs were able to make a new friend, River, who is the owner's dog that would sometimes accompany us on our outings around the property. Inside the cabin was well appointed with everything that you could possibly need. As we spend most of our time outside (take time to explore the Bighorn National Forest when you stay there) we only require the basics. This cabin is one that almost encourages you to get outside with its large deck overlooking the aforementioned creek area as well as ample windows that allow natural light to filter in. Finally the cabin has a rather convenient location in terms of proximity to the town and the national forest but because it is located on and adjacent to farm land you will not be bothered by traffic or other such noise, in fact it is particularly peaceful.
It was very relaxing! So quiet and totally private with no one in site. We enjoyed a nice walk along the creek and reading on the deck for several hours in this country setting.
We enjoyed the seclusion of this quiet little cottage. There was a nice deck where we could sit and enjoy the country view. There was also a nice walking path, but be sure to use bug repellent if you take the walk during the summer.
What a beautiful location. Very private, great set up for myself and my small dog! The cottage was very well taken care of, equipped with AC and many other bare necessities for a quick stay. The area is very back woods, so we had a couple run in with ticks, so just be prepared with some bug spray of you plan to go exploring on the paths they provide on the property. Other than that, it was perfect! Devon was great, giving eating recommendations, and was just a text away if you needed anything!
Our experience as Spur Ranch was excellent. The woman who handled the booking and other details was responsive and pleasant. Even though the property is less than 10 minutes out of Sheridan, it seems remote and private. The owner was generous in letting us use his bicycles to ride the 2-mile challenging bike trail he created right on the property. The cottage was small, but just the right size for our family of three (including a 15-year-old who loved the bike trail.) He gave us great suggestions for touring around the area, which we heeded and had a great day (Fort Phil Kearney and other battle sites, hikes in the Big Horn Mountains and lunch at the South Fork Inn.) Highly recommended.
The fresh flowers were lovely and the cottage exactly as pictured! The wonderful surprise was a mountain bike for me to use, along with an amazing trail on which to use it! The dirt track followed a winding creek for 2 miles, went over a bridge and back along the other side, then over another bridge and back again--it was challenging exercise for me (something I never seem to find the time for) and a perfect way to exercize my German Shorthair Pointer. Jack became friends with the owner's dog, River, and this was by far his most fun vacation! My husband enjoyed his eveing cigar on the deck facing the creek; I can't think of a more relaxing place to be at the end of the day. We were there for a trade show (yes, even small cowboy towns have trade shows!) and reserved the place again for next year. If you go to Sheridan for some other reason, I also recommend Olivia's Kitchen for authentic Mexican food- we ate there twice. Also, don't miss the King Museum (which is in the alley behind the store); its truly an amazing place! For me, the best thing about staying at a vacation place over a hotel is that I can conveniently make my morning coffee the way I like it! I enjoyed my morning coffee in the midst of burbling water, rustling trees, and bird calls. Most mornings we found deer looking in our windows.
Full of history and scenic views, Sheridan, Wyoming is known to be a popular tourist attraction! Feeling adventurous? Take a drive to the Bighorns and enjoy some of the many recreational activities, such as hiking, camping, ATV/snowmobile riding and fishing. Feel like taking in a little history? Downtown Sheridan is known for its many historic buildings, as well as shopping, good eats, and the theatre!
