Imagine driving down a long dead end road and discovering a small colony of just 8 cottages nestled along the Chesapeake Bay. Welcome to Crystal Beach Cottage in Crystal Beach Colony where daily life is calm, peaceful and untroubled.
For the sportsman, our cottage is situated on the Chesapeake Bay with decent fishing directly accessible from the bank or nearby boat launch. Waterfowl hunting in the highly productive Barrier Island Chain is only a few miles away or you can hunt directly offshore here on Bayside!
After sundown from the back deck, you can see the twinkling lights of historic Tangier Island. By day when the sky is clear, a distant image of the little island town is also visible. Tangier was a strategic British base of operations during the war of 1812, and it is approximately 13 miles distant in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Boat tours are available for visiting the wonderful and unique island. This makes for a great day of sightseeing, shopping and dining on local cuisine, along with a fantastic boat ride to and from the destination.
Wallops Island is a well known NASA location for rocket launches into outer space. It has become a significant facility which deploys many rockets throughout a typical year, including the launch to supply the International Space Station. From the back porch of 'Seven Mile House', these spectacular events are visible in the night sky. On a clear evening, one can actually see the rocket profile and separation of the various rocket stages during early, rapid acceleration. The light show from the blast and burning fuel is spectacular! Plan your vacation when a launch is scheduled from Wallops Island for an unforgettable event in your Chesapeake vacation! Information regarding upcoming rocket launch dates is available from the NASA website at
Hi, we are government retirees from Pennsylvania who enjoy spending time on the Eastern Shore of VA, traveling to national parks and other scenic lands and spending time with our children and our grandson.
Patty Phillipy purchased this cottage in 2012
We looked long and hard for a vacation home that was off the beaten path yet near a nice little town, was on the water and had a mesmerizing view. This property has all of that and more!
Property was as described. Town of Onancock has a very nice restaurant (Charlott's). Beds were small but as described. 2 adults is very cozy. We brought kayaks and fished. Going towards the Onancock river there are several coves with deep cuts at the entrances. Managed 8 rockfish on Saturday and 1 "keeper" size. Could definitely do better next time as we spent more time exploring than we did fishing. Road down to Kiptopeke for a walk on the beach since it was in the mid 70s. Neighbors were friendly and helpful on places to eat and fish. Nice get away. Very quiet.
The location is great, it's secluded, but also close to town. The cottage is charming and had everything we needed for a few days. The owner was very friendly and quick to respond to my questions during our stay. Definitely recommend it.
We had the most delightful weekend in this little cottage! Luckily we had good weather, so we were able to take our morning coffee (provided) right down by the Bay where we heard nothing but a few birds and the gentle lapping of the waves. Pure relaxing heaven!! It was handy to have wi-fi and TV, but our main focus was on the changes from our regular life "back home." I would go there again in a heartbeat. Now to just find the time. . . . .
We drove down the star lit street and up to the property at 10:00 pm and peered into the windows to see the cutest cottage ever. It is decorated in mid century furniture and attention has been given to every detail. We loved the beds and the teal bedding, the upholstered mid century chairs and rocker and the crocheted pillows. I especially loved the mid century lighting!!! The property is tucked under a big beach house but we never saw or heard anybody else. We did see bunnies every morning and deer in the evenings. The beach was literally out the back door and was totally private. A beautiful pergola framed sunset pictures and there was a fire pit we never got a chance to use. We did use this cottage as home base and traveled up and down the Eastern Shore over three days. We ate at Janet's cafe for breakfast every morning and her 5 star trip advisor award was well deserved. Janet was also super nice and helpful in guiding us to antique stores, art shows and farmers markets. We even met the folks at the local alpaca farm and got some great pictures with the newest baby! The slow pace of the Eastern Shore was the unexpected best thing about this trip and so nice coming from Hampton Roads. We will definitely be back and we will stay here again for sure!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is a bright light filled cottage decorated from a throw back of the retro days of old. It is so beautiful to look out on the water as it glistens back @ you. You have everything you need here to survive if you never stepped out the door. (It is truly a" hidden little secret"). However if you do step out
, there are many little stores and restaurants all around, particularly in Onancock. You have to try the famous Cream Puff Donuts, to die for. You can find them @ the corner bakery. Just prior to your arrival you will be given all the info you will need from directions to cooking facilities etc. we were lucky to meet Patty the owner by happinstance. She is lovely and very available for anything you need. Lastly, at day's end the sunsets are breath taking. You must take home pics of these to remember the beauty and peacefulness of your stay here.. Would come back tomorrow.

When we got to the cottage, within the first hour, we killed over 3 dozen flies in the cottage. The cleaning lady came in to return the vacuum cleaner and saw one of our piles of flies. She stated that a wedding party had been staying there the previous 9 days. She gave us a fly strip but she was only there a few minutes. The only correspondence I had with the owner was an email as there was no phone number listed anywhere on the emails. We decided to leave the facility and stay somewhere else as we weren't comfortable staying there. We thought we had gotten all of the flies but they seemed to still be coming in from somewhere. I sent two emails over the weekend and never heard back from the owner until I called VRBO who then gave me the owner's phone number on our way home from our vacation. The owner never called back but responded via an email stating that she had no proof that we didn't stay and if I would have contacted her, she would have put us up somewhere else at no additional cost. I had requested at least a partial reimbursement since I had to pay to stay somewhere else. She never responded back. I would not recommend this rental.
