About Sheri and David
We met as undergraduates at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill & this summer celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We have 3 grown children, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law & 6 grandchildren who are our 'pride & joy.' Our 3 children were born in 3 years, so we couldn't just pick up & travel very easily! We are happy to do our best to make it easy for you to throw your clothes in your suitcase & come on, so email in advance if there is something we may do to give you the sort of dream getaway we would have loved! Also, when you get here, please do not be shy to let us know what we may do or have available to enhance your time here. We continually find things we love about living in Asheville & sharing with family & others. People say that we have the 'the gift of hospitality,' & we are looking forward to sharing this newly & lovingly constructed space with you.

What makes this Apartment unique

Awesome place to stay
We have stayed in this apartment several times. It has become our favorite place to stay in Asheville and we have stayed in probably 20 or more other places over the years. It is always neat as a pin (they even request that you wear slippers inside) and the kitchen is always well stocked with essentials. The climb up the mountain on the driveway is a lovely ride and puts you in full views of downtown and the mountains to the west. A beautiful, private setting to be so convenient to downtown
Or as another guest put it, the ascent up the driveway is "like stepping into Shangri-La." Thank you for your appreciation of this beautiful property.
Lovely property and location
Great accommodations. Off the beaten path and super quiet but close enough to be in downtown Asheville in < 10 minutes. Would love to return some time when the weather is better so we can sit outside and enjoy the view. David and Zebaa, super friendly host dog, greeted us and Sheila made herself available despite being out of town. We didn't call on them as everything was as expected and we didn't need to ask for help.
Bathroom was complete with soap, shampoo and plenty of towels. Coffee and cream were provided though we didn't use them.
Modern clean apartment, what a view.
Great remote spot, high up for extended views. Easy access to all areas of interest.
Fantastic Weekend Getaway
Great apartment; very clean and comfortable. The view is spectacular. Sheri's dining recommendations were spot on.
Even though the weather was rainy we enjoyed the mountain views from this apartment-like VRBO. Our place was quiet, immaculate and the bed was very comfortable. Communicating with the owner was a breeze. She provided us with a list of restaurants with commentary. We had fun exploring Asheville (home of top-notch rock and mineral shops) and touring the Biltmore. We will highly recommend this place to any of our friends who travel to Asheville.
Just what this Florida boy wanted....
As a lifelong Floridian, I always wanted to stay on top of a mountain and overlook beautiful scenery. I ended up getting everything I wanted, AND MORE, with our getaway to Asheville. From the initial booking, until the end of our stay, Sherri was always available either text or call. That meant alot going to a place we have never been. The 'apartment style" setting is fabulous. It is attached to the main house however it is seperated from Sherri and Dave. There is a huge living room which leads to a large hallway which incorporates a quaint FULL kitchen. It makes ZERO sense to stay at a hotel if this place is available.
Now this house is AT THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN. We made the mistake of arriving at night. TIP: If you use the "WAZE" app on your phone, it will take you right to the house. The trek up the mountain is daunting to a Florida boy like me. It was a 1 lane paved road (thankfully) that isn't lit. Daytime driving was easy. Nightime was....let's say.... adventurous. TIP: as mentioned, we arrived at night with the plans to go back out after we arrived. After tackling the mountain to get there, we decided to wait till morning to go back out. So we ordered pizza in the evening from Pepperoni's. They delivered up the mountain. Pizza and cheesebread was great!
This place really checks all the boxes. We went with our 2 children (8 and 12) and they were situated in the living room area. Sherri even went as far to add a blow up mattress for my daughter which fit neatly right next to the pull out sofa. However, this place would have been just as great if it was the wife and I only.
As you look for your perfect place to stay in Asheville, and this property is available, BOOK IT. You will be glad you did!
Oh, thank you Curtis, for such a lovely review! I could tell from our communications prior to your arrival that your family would love the top-of-mountain experience. Although one must drive up the private, one-mile pastoral driveway to get the 60-mile view, it's super safe & worth it, as you indicated! Please do come again!
Bear Mountain Retreat is a quiet, private spot on the top of a mountain with both views & easy access to Asheville's best attractions. We are 4 miles from the Biltmore Estate & a 2-mile drive from downtown with its celebrated restaurants and unique character. The River Arts District and West Asheville are 10 minutes by car. The Blue Ridge Parkway, with its scenic overlooks, picnic spots, and hiking destinations, is 5 minutes away.
