About Sheri and David

We met as undergraduates at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill & in July celebrated 38 years of marriage & as best friends. We have 3 grown children, two sons-in-law, a daughter-in-law & 5 grandchildren who are our 'pride & joy.' Our 3 children were born in 3 years, so we couldn't just pick up & travel very easily! We are happy to do our best to make it easy for you to throw your clothes in your suitcase & come on, so email in advance if there is something we may do to give you the sort of dream getaway we would have loved! Also, when you get here, please do not be shy to let us know what we may do or have available to enhance your time here. We continually find things we love about living in Asheville & sharing with family & others. People say that we have the 'the gift of hospitality,' & we are looking forward to sharing this newly & lovingly constructed space with you.

Wonderful stay at Bear Mountain Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Sheri and David's mountain retreat! The separate apartment is incredibly spacious, with a huge living room, large bedroom, separate kitchen, and washer/dryer, so there is plenty of room to spread out and relax and make yourself at home. It's incredibly peaceful, with beautiful lush trees and amazing mountain views. Sheri and David were absolutely wonderful hosts who made us feel very welcome and offered lots of great suggestions. We stayed for two weeks, for a mix of work retreat and vacation and it was just what we were looking for. We would highly recommend staying here to anyone who wants a lovely peaceful place to stay, with great views and a feeling of being away from it all, but just ten minutes from all the amazing downtown Asheville restaurants, and very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and numerous fabulous nearby hiking trails. We can't wait to come back!

Great mountain stay

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was spotless. Sheri and David were amazing hosts. No bears this time, maybe next. Great spots to check out: Chiesa for Italian food, just a superb dinner. High Falls in the Dupont Forest about an hour outside of Asheville. And Sunny Point Cafe for breakfast and a bloody mary!! Enjoy!

Just like home but better!!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at Bear Mountain Retreat three times. It is our preferred place to stay when we visit Asheville. The kitchen is tiny but totally adequate for us foodies (😃). My daughters (2) have plenty of sleeping room and love staying in the biggest room at the VRBO. Plus a bonus for us is seeing the sweet bears that love to roam the mountain side.

Basement Apt.

  • 5 of 5

The view and scenery from apartment were stunningly beautiful. The hosts provided a small table and chairs for outdoor patio enjoyment. We sat outside nearly every evening with a cocktail and enjoyed the view of the mountains. While the drive up the mountain was steep, the location is very close to downtown. The apartment was beautifully decorated. The kitchen was tiny, but we weren't interested in too much cooking.

Thanksgiving in Asheville

  • 5 of 5

We are just driving away from "the Best Thanksgiving ever" in Asheville. Yes, we were visiting extended family and our 2 adorable grandchildren, which was great fun. However, staying in Sheri and David's rental apartment made our vacation perfect. The property is at the top of a mountain, but is very close to restaurants, grocery, shopping mall, theaters, and all the other attractions Asheville offers. The apartment is very private and quiet. Sheri and David have gone out of their way to have it tastefully decorated, incredibly comfortable and spotlessly clean. Booking it was fast and easy, and any questions we had before our visit were answered immediately. We will definitely return to Bear Mountain Retreat again and again. Beverly H Atlanta, Ga

Wonderful stay at Bear Mountain

  • 5 of 5

Last week we stayed at Sheri and David's Bear Mtn retreat. It was one of the cleanest properties in all our many travels. We loved the gas fireplace and the king rice bed was fantastic. The view from our large windows were unbelievable . We did have a small problem with the smoke from the forest fires in the area. This was not Sheri or David's fault. Our first evening there we saw a Bear come down to drink out of their waterfall. Got a great video. The morning we were leaving, a mama Bear and two large cubs came right below the large windows to say goodbye. Overall a great stay. Sheri and David went out of their way to make us welcome. We will be back!!!!
