Overview

About the property

Recently renovated, light and airy apartment on the second floor.

This apartment is in the centre of historical Krakow , the exceptional location by the river makes staying here a real pleaure. It has been recently renovated and the decorative style is simple and fresh.

It is ideal for 2 but sleeps maximum 4, using the divans in the sitting room and dining room.

There is one double bedroom with a brass bed and a lovely view of a monastery garden,

The spacious dining room and sitting room are separated by large double doors and have original oak parquet floors.

The kitchen and the bathroom are off the central hallway. There is under-floor heating beneath the black and white tiles.

The kitchen has a fridge with freezer compartment, half-size dishwasher, half-size washing machine, double sink, ceramic induction hotplate and Dualit mini-oven/grill. The kitchen is well equipped for four.

The bathroom has a shower, heated towel rail, toilet and marble-topped sink.

Culture in Krakow: Krakow is wonderful city for music and festivals, including Jazz, Independendent Film, Photography, Folk Music, Jewish Culture and Contemporary Music. The apartment is well situated for the Philharmonic Hall and the bars of Kazimierz where you will find Klesmer concerts. There are six independent cinemas within walking distance, English language films are shown with subtitles and there are regular showings of classic Polish films with English subtitles.

Delicious Food: Krakow has an amazing range of good restaurants but what I most enjoy is going to the Old Market and finding what is in season , for instance Polish Asparagus in April and an extraordinary range of mushrooms in October. There are always stalls of sheep cheeses, homemade butter and farm-yard eggs.

About Rebecca Meitlis

I came to Krakow to visit where my father was born and I fell in love with it!

Rebecca Meitlis purchased this apartment in 2006

Why Rebecca Meitlis chose Krakow

When I found this aprtment I knew it would be a wonderful place to stay and explore Krakow and the surrounding hills and mountains. I also go there to find a peaceful place to work when I have some writing to do.

What makes this apartment unique

It is a very special location, surrounded by greenery and the river yet in walking distance of all that is wonderful in Krakow

The apartment is situated at the foot of Wawel Castle with a view across the River Vistula in the front and the Bernadynska Monastery garden at the back, the apartment, in ul. Smocza is perfectly situated for short stays in Krakow (ul. Smocza means Dragon Street, as the castle was built over a Dragon’s den!) Beautiful apartment in perfect location for Krakow centre

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here! The apartment is spacious and elegant and has everything needed for your stay. Rebecca is lovely and she responds to messages immediately, you can tell that she wants guests to enjoy their stay. When we arrived the apartment was warm and inviting with fresh flowers in the lounge & bedroom. We would definitely return and we recommend it to others. Thank you.

Superb location

  • 5 of 5

So glad we chose this apartment, just steps from Wawel Castle, and slightly removed from the busy centre, with peaceful bedroom at the back and delightful riverside views to the front. Plenty to see and do in Krakow: we could have stayed longer than a week.

Sunny apartment close to International Convention Centre

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for 12 days while attending meetings at the International Convention Centre (ICE) just across the river. The apartment is bright, sunny and very clean, and as described on the website. There is plenty of room and lots of power points. The double bed is comfortable – be aware however that there are curtains only in the bedroom, and these are translucent so the apartment is fully light in midsummer shortly after 4.30 am. If you are a light sleeper you might like to bring your airline sleeping masks! No wardrobe as such but there are drawers in one room and you can hang clothes on wall hooks or a stand in the bedroom. The kitchen is nicely equipped – we didn’t use the dishwasher but the washing machine was very useful. We managed well with the 50 minute ‘synthetics’ cycle followed by an extra spin. There is no clothes drying rack (that we found, anyway) but we managed with clothes hangers and our travelling washing line and everything dried quickly.

There are lots of restaurants nearby, and it is worth telephoning ahead or calling in during the day to make a booking, particularly on a Saturday night. Café Camelot is delightful if you need to sit down somewhere near the Old Market Square during the day, and the wine bar Pergamin in ul Grodzka has an interesting selection of Polish wines and cheeses. There is a new “Zabka” convenience store just round the corner in Sukiennicza which also has ready meals, though we didn’t eat in much except for breakfast.

Sightseeing is easy from the apartment – you are close to Wawel castle and you can walk pretty well everywhere else. Try walking through the Planty rather than overcrowded ul Grodzka – it is so much nicer. You can also take an 18 tram from Dietla or a bus from ICE across the river if it comes on to rain – keep a 2.80 PLN ticket in your wallet just in case! We highly recommend the Free Walking Tours (yellow umbrellas) run by young locals who are also qualified guides – we did a couple of these on our first two days and they proved to be an excellent introduction. We also enjoyed Discover Crakow’s tour of the interiors of Wawel Castle, and the Jagiellonian University’s museum, library and academic halls (there is an extended tour in English at 1 pm). The art galleries of the National Museum all have free entry to their permanent collections on Sundays. There are guidebooks in the apartment and several tourist offices close by (ask for "Karnet" for a list of what's on during your visit!).

Nice location some limitations

  • 3 of 5

Owner lives in England so there is no one who meets you at the flat. Only one set of keys mailed to you which must be mailed back which means everyone must come and go together. No microwave or toaster and one cup coffee. Would have liked a coffee pot. Window in bedroom has curtains but other two rooms do not which is not good since there is a well used park across the street that would make it awkward using these rooms for sleepers. Location is right next to the river and on the back side of the castle. Nice and quiet.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I would like to point out the following; Before anyone books I explain the key situation and what to do if there is an emergency. No there is no microwave as I think they are unhealthy. There is a very smart Dualit convection oven that , bakes , grills and defrosts. There is a good toaster on the kitchen counter. There is an expresso machine for 6 cups of coffee, one small cafetiere and one large cafetiere (for 4-6 cups of coffee). All items in the apartment are listed in the itinerary I send in advance so guests know what to expect. I often sleep in the front rooms and there is no visibility from the park into the rooms as they are on the second floor. (unless someone had a periscope!)

A pearl

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful apartment, the view to the river makes for an relaxing start and end of each day. The apartment is in easy walking distance to the centre of Krakow.

The description of the apartment was 100% correct and the information and advice received from Rebecca was fantastic.

There are so many things to do in and around the city, that I would strongly recommend a visit, although it would be an idea to read up on the history of Krakow. This will help with planning your activities.

Thank you Rebecca.

comfortable, attractive apartment by the river in great location for sightseeing

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was perfect for us, in a lovely location by the river, and walking distance to each of the many sights/sites we visited. It was larger than we needed (we're a couple), but we appreciated the spaciousness though we rarely used the living room. It could easily accommodate 4 people, with one day bed in the dining room and another in the living room. Rebecca was helpful to us during the booking phase, and the information she provided on the apt., local markets and restaurants, and transportation was useful. We would definitely rent Rebecca's apartment again!
