Casa la Piedra is a beautiful old house which has been sensitively restored in the heart of Competa. There is a wonderful organic feel with Andaluz décor. There are Spanish urns and mirrors; paintings and photographs of local artists. Colourful fabrics. Blue shutters to filter the sunlight, terracotta floors, beamed ceilings. The living room has an open fireplace for the winter. There are unusual architectural features - a balustrade exposing two floor levels. An internal patio with cascading jasmine, aspidistra and exotic plants. The spacious kitchen/dining room spans the middle floor giving a feeling of space. a fully equipped kitchen with two fridges. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. A large roof terrace which is partly shaded + A BBQ and two dining tables with lounging chairs. Every corner of this lovely house is a haven of discovery and delight to the eye. 50 meters to local parking. WiFi. Not to be missed. The property is not suitable for toddlers.

A lovely townhouse in a wonderful town
We stayed in Casa La Piedra for just over a week and wished it could have been longer! Kath met us on our arrival and was very patient in helping us to find parking close by. She was so warm and welcoming, that we felt at home right from the start. The townhouse is delightful. Full of character, really well renovated and very well equipped too. It is a joy to stay in. Even though it was October, we enjoyed hot and sunny days relaxing on the roof terrace, and the kitchen / dining room was perfect for the few meals we had in, when the evenings were cooler. The house is perfectly located - it is very close to parking at the top of the town, if spaces are available, and not too far from the central car park, if they aren't. The house is also ideally placed for the main square, where many of the restaurants and bars are situated. Its just a minute's walk to these, but you are far enough away not to be disturbed by any noise from the evening's activities in the main square, if you choose a quieter night. Competa itself is a great place to visit. It has a lovely cultural feel, and there are plenty of things for visitors to do, but it also feels like a working village and that makes it very easy to relax into and feel a real part of. All in all we can highly recommend Casa La Piedra and will definitely be visiting again! Many thanks to Kath and Shaun for their welcome and for making their lovely home available.
A lovely village house
We spent four nights in this beautifully renovated and charmingly decorated house right in the middle of pretty Competa (which is amazingly quiet and traffic-free) , with easy access to all the shops, bars and restaurants of the town. We were generously welcomed by Kath and Shaun, who had made sure the house was perfectly prepared for our stay. Everything worked efficiently, including the weather, and we were even able to have our final dinner on the lovely roof terrace watching the sun go down over the roofs of the town and the surrounding hills. An ideal base from which to explore both the coast and the mountains behind the town, or to enjoy all the local amenities. If we are ever in the area again this would always be our first-choice destination. Perfect.

Looking for the real spain?
We have just returned from ten day stay at casa la piedra. The typical Andalucian town house was full of rustic charm and had bag loads of character. It is situated in a narrow street in the heart of Competa and is only a minute stroll from the main plaza. The house has four floors and a roof terrace with views over to the hills, sea and town. The bathrooms are fuctional but the one on the second floor could do with updating as it has a shower head run from mixer taps over a bath, the ground floor bathroom has a large walk in shower. The kitchen has functional cooking facilities and two fridges but would benefit from a microwave oven. The set up is great and we enjoyed some lovely home meals in this part of the house. The stairs between floors are very steep and may not be for the less able. The roof terrace has plenty of seating options and attracts the sun all day. As a result it can get very hot but there is a excellent shaded area at the back of the terrace where you can retreat to. It does however need more lighting for the evening as there is only currently one bulk head light provided. There are no parking facilities in the street for a hire car and we had to find parking. However there is a small car park near by which can get busy and also a car park at the bottom of town which was free. We didnt find this an issue and managed to park our car quite easily. There was no linen change or cleaning included for our stay and i would suggest that if you staying longer than a week then that should be included.
The town of competa is very surprising, i intially thought restuarants were situated in the main plaza but have a good walk around the towns narrow streets and you discover a wealth of other bars and restaurants. Some of note were El Pilon a fine dining restaurant and Oscars which provided the best tapas. We loved Competa and the only negatives was the use of the narrow streets by some locals on mopeds which was a bit noisy at times and being situated were it is some of the street were very steep.
Would i recommend this venue, yes very much so as prevuoisly stated a lovely house, full of charm and character in a town which has bags to offer. We went looking for the real spain and found it here.
We will return.
This is a great house of character and style which suited our tastes and sensibilities perfectly. The listing description is accurate regarding layout and the property is clean and well maintained with good facilities for a family. There were seven of us - four adults and three children. Plenty of space to come together or have time to ourselves. Competa is the real Spain. The locals are very friendly and love children. Access to a swimming pool at a local hotel was good and well supervised. Situated north of Malaga, Competa nestles on the mountain side and there are spectacular views and lovely walks, short or long, round about. If you choose to eat meals out there are plenty of places to choose from and also a fabulous Italian ice cream shop in the village. Also several local supermarkets. The property owner is friendly and informative, keen to ensure that guests get the most out of their stay. There is lots of information in the house about the area and places to visit. It is ideally situated for visiting the caves at Nirja and spending a day in Malaga. Good road networks. Also the Alhambra at Grenada which we booked in advance by phone while we were there. Whether visiting places of interest or just relaxing all in all we had a really good holiday.
Thank you for this review. It covers so many aspects of the house, life in Competa and the surrounding area. It was great to meet such a nice family who showed appreciation and enthusiasm for their holiday. I hope to see you again one day in the future. ! best wishes to you all. Sandra

Casa la Piedra is located in the heart of the village of Competa. This is a traditional white Andalucian village which is cradled by the Sierra Almijara / Tejeda mountains. The area is designated 'natural park' ; protected for its outstanding beauty and is half an hour from the Mediterranean sea. The Axarquia region is renowned for its muscatel grape and the hillsides are dotted with vines, olive and almond trees. Malaga airport is one hours drive and Granada can be reached in two. You have the choice in winter of skiing in the morning and bathing in the sea in the afternoon. The village has a variety of bars and restaurants at affordable prices. There are stables for horse trekking. The local hotel has an outdoor swimming pool in lovely gardens and there is a 25 meter heated municipal pool which is open all the year round. This is a working Spanish village and children are most welcome. The area attracts walkers from every part of the world. A special holiday.
