Powderhorn lodge, the most distinct and recognizable accommodation in the European-style Solitude Village. The village is an intimate ski-in/ski-out community where the slopes are literally steps away. Lift tickets, ski equipment rentals and repairs and ski lesson sign-ups are on the bottom floor of the building. Everything you need for the perfect stay is close at hand.
Solitude Mountain Resort is conveniently located a short drive by car or shuttle service from Salt Lake City International Airport. This four-season vacation destination is known for its unusually long Alpine skiing season, opening in November and closing in April. This ski-in/ski-out resort averages over 500 inches of Utah’s lightest and best powder snow per year, has over 1200 skiable acres accessed by eight chairlifts and 64 trails with over 2000 vertical feet of elevation. Solitude also has a fine Nordic Center. With Solitude Mountain Resort as your accommodation, you can easily drive to Utah’s other close by fantastic skiing areas, Brighton, Alta, SnowBird, Park City, Deer Valley and Canyons.
The village is home to Club Solitude, an exclusive members-only (free to Powderhorn guests) area that has extra entertainment for everyone. Its pool is well-heated and includes two hot-tubs and a waterslide. Indoors, the Club boasts a pool table, foosball, a theater room, four Xbox 360s, board games, and two computers with printer and internet access. It also has men’s and women’s saunas, a fitness room, and a spectacular great room with fireplace and library.
We had a great stay at this ski-in/ski out condo at solitude. We enjoyed access to Club Solitude and the pool and other amenities there. Owner was easy to work with and promptly refunded our damage deposit. My only complaint was that the back door that opens out to the balcony sticks a little bit and could use servicing.
This condo is quite conveniently located in the middle of the village with easy walk to lifts, club and restaurants. Underground parking is also nice. Kids loved the bunk beds and the master mattress was really comfortable. The rest of the condo had the usual somewhat sparse kitchen accessories and the TV could have been mounted in a better place for wide viewing. It was nice to have good towels and amenities provided (soap, shampoo, TP) though.
Walk to the lifts at Solitude and Brighton is 2 miles up the road which can also be accessed by SolBright trail from Summit Lift at Solitude and Millicent Lift at Brighton - look for the giant reservoir. The full kitchen saves needing to go out to eat (buy groceries at Smith's off bengal blvd before driving up Big Cottonwood Canyon). The condo is nice, quiet and clean. The TVs are very small, easily the smallest TV's I have ever seen (I highly recommend the owner mount a 46" TV above the fake fireplace and a 40" TV in the bedroom). Solitude has no nightlife - there is one or two overpriced restaurants and one bar that is dead (we saw maybe 15 people at the Thirsty Squirrel apres ski). At night, there is not much to do in Solitude. If you want nightlife - go to Park City - its a ski town. If you want a mountain to yourself - go to Solitude, there is barely anyone there. Brighton and Solitude runs are 1000-2000 vertical feet. To access Solitude's 2000 vertical feet, two chairs are required. This is great if you are coming from sea level and are not acclimated. Compare that to Snowbird/Alta with 2000-3000+ vertical feet and VERY aggressive - locals will run you over if you are in the way at AltaBird while Solitude and Brighton are completely relaxed. The parking garage was great - no need to shovel FEET of snow off your car/vehicle. This place gets an enormous amount of snow. Wireless internet worked but not 100% reliable. I would 100% stay here again, even if they dont upgrade the TVs but please upgrade the TVs.
The condo and resort are both very well kept: clean, in good repair, and very comfortable. We didn't get a chance to use Club Solitude, but walked around and it looked very nice as well. They have both a hot tub and an outdoor heated pool - bring your suit! Ski lockers are provided on the first floor, and there is a garage - great in the winter! We would definitely stay here again.
Clean, spacious, and just a few steps from the lifts. Underground parking. Club with pool and hot tubs also a few steps away.
