A classic ranch type real Lincoln log cabin with a large front porch with Adirondack chairs over seeing a park setting with stone walls on 2 acres. There are 4 bedrooms and 4 baths ( 1 King, 2 queens , 2 twins and a pullout in the finished basement) with a stone fireplace in a cathedral living room off of a large country kitchen. There is a separate hot tub room with a Swedish yodel wood stove. Included is a finished basement with a Sauna and full bath. There is Cable with large HDTV;s in all main rooms. The master suite recently added is 600 SQ Ft with a Vermont stove and soaking hot tub in master bath. This is truly a cozy warm house for a stress less Getaway.
We purchased the property in 1983 in the scenic town of Shaftsbury VT between Bennington and Manchester VT so as to be close to an airport(Bennington AP) since we flew up in my single engine plane from NJ to enjoy skiing, hiking, hunting and swimming in the clear beautiful Shaftsbury park fresh water lake about 1.5 mi on historic 7A with my wife and 2 sons now grown up with families.
The house sits high on a beautiful park setting with historic stone walls demarking the property in a residential area right off of Historic 7a.The location is convenient for traveling south to Bennington or NYS or North to Arlington, Manchester, Rutland,VT etc., next to beautiful Shaftsbury Park & Lake and beach.
We stayed here over New Year's with three families and it was ideal. It is HUGE for one thing, with so much space for kids to do their thing and beds aplenty. Everyone loved the hot tub and jacuzzi. Nearby is a lovely state park with a lake.
The master bedroom is practically the size of a house by itself, so if you intend to share, keep in mind that the bedrooms are not even in terms of awesomeness, but we were all very comfortable.
Lots of space, very clean and cozy. Quiet, beautiful outdoor setting. Owner was very helpful and called to follow up after the trip. Bedrooms were large and common spaces had plenty of room for everyone. Plenty of dishes and kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, etc. If we head to Vermont again, we would certainly stay here. Wonderful weekend experience.
This place is a disaster and I would not recommend it for anyone!
We received a call about a week prior to our arrival from the owner saying that a pipe had burst in the basement and that we would not be able to utilize that space. We should have taken that as a sign not to stay in this cabin.
This cabin is the dirtiest, dustiest place I've ever stayed. There was so much stuff crammed into spaces that there is no way it is ever actually clean. From the Christmas tree still up in June to the hundreds of figurines on any flat surface available. It doesn't feel like home it feels like a garage sale.
The showers had black hair stuck to the walls. There was mouse poop found in the kitchen cabinets. This is apparently an issue because the owner left notes for the caretaker saying to be sure it gets cleaned up. There was no wifi (although the owner claimed a hot spot is the same as high speed). This "hot spot" wasn't accessible by anyone who stayed in the house all weekend. There are many televisions in the rental however only one actually worked.
The refrigerator was not working when we arrived. Imagine having multiple families staying for a weekend and not having a refrigerator! We had to go out and purchase coolers and ice so we didn't lose the food we purchased.
We tried to use the gas grill and there was no gas. We had to go out and purchase gas so we could cook the food kept cold by the coolers and ice we also had to purchase.
The hot tub was not working during our stay. There were ants all over the kitchen.
All in all not a good experience. We did receive a small reimbursement for not being able to use the basement. It hardly made up for not having a refrigerator, hot tub, the disgusting state of the cabin, and having to purchase coolers and ice.
The house is off of Historic 7A across from The Chocolate Barn with fabulous home made chocolates, VT Maple Syrup and home made Ice cream. Shaftsbury State Park and Lake with beach ,swimming, camping and picnicking with views of the Green Mountains. There is Snowmobile trails and cross country skiing locally.
