We are Brad and Christina, live most of the year in Orlando and have four small children.
Christina & Brad purchased this house in 2013
This house was built in the 20s and we bought in 2013 from the family that built it. It overlooks beautiful Lake Harris and the neighborhood is peaceful and tranquil. Often on Saturdays we walk to the Yalaha Country Bakery and get lunch and listen to live music. This home has been a weekend house for our family and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
The original owners of this home were the original settlers of this area and the home has a lot of character. We've furnished it to be cozy and inviting for our family. The views from the front room over Lake Harris are amazing and we hang out in the swing by the lake while the kids play on the beach in the afternoons.
This has been the most wonderful trip -- as my sister said, Old Florida at its best. We loved everything about it -- rode our bikes in the hills, went to Yalaha Community Church, the bakery, boating, and took naps every day. We felt so welcome and comfortable. Thank you so much! We will be back.
This is definitely an "old Florida" vacation home. It may be great for older couples or golf/tennis outings, but there is not much to do for younger people who don't play golf and nothing to enjoy within walking distance. Please be aware that the pool and gym are a drive away. There is no boat ramp or dock near the house. Although you are steps away from the water, you cannot swim in the lake, as there are alligators. It is difficult/impossible to fish from the shore due to the water level and situation of the bank. There is abundant wildlife in the area and several boating/fishing options a short drive away. There are several points of interest within 30 minutes of the property, and several terrific restaurants nearby.
The home itself is adequate. There are several factors that you should know before you rent. The most important (to us) was the inadequate air conditioning. While the air conditioner may be fine during much of the year, it was completely inadequate for the 90+ degree Florida summer weather. (I lived in Florida for many years and 90+ degree daytime highs are very common from June through September.) The house was hot enough to be very uncomfortable for most of each night. (We actually went out and bought extra fans after the first few days, but this helped only minimally.) The master shower is very small- it would likely pose significant difficulty for larger individuals or those with disabilities. The bedroom doors do not have locks. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the house does have a bug problem. Having lived in Florida, it is very important to have regular pest control/spraying to prevent spiders, roaches, etc. from entering the house. This property does not appear to have that. If you are looking for a basic, serviceable rental, this may be fine, but don't expect any sense of luxury.
Our family of nine (including two young kids and a dog) spent 4th of July weekend at the "HaHa" Lake House. It was the perfect getaway for us.
The house was very clean and comfortable all around. The beds were plush and supportive. The couches were comfortable and arranged to have fantastic views of the Lake. The kitchen table was plenty spacious. We cooked numerous meals in the kitchen and had everything we needed.
As great as the house is, the real gem is the stunningly beautiful neighborhood on the Lake shaded by majestic live oaks. There is plenty to do in the area, but we just wanted to take strolls along the lakeside, watch the hawks, peacocks and other water birds do their thing, go for bike rides in the surrounding hills, and sit out on the bank watching the sunset.
Christina and Brad were great to work with, as well. They were very responsive and easy to communicate with, not that we needed to talk all that much. The neighbors are also pleasant and easy to talk to.
As for things to do in the area that I would recommend: Visit the Yalaha Bakery early and often. Go for a sunset bike ride. Check out the town of Mt. Dora. On our next trip to Yalaha I would also try some fishing on the lake and a trip to springs in the surrounding areas.
All in all we had a great stay and would definitely come back.
Beautiful location, comfortable and clean home, kid friendly and parent approved! Close to gorgeous clubhouse, friendly neighbors and a picture perfect lake house view.....we will definitely be back.
We were looking for a close to Leesburg home with a view. We found it here on beautiful Lake Harris and only 10 minutes from Leesburg. This relaxing cottage style home was an ideal place to hang out during our visit to the area. The owner was very responsive and accommodating to our needs. They included tips on where to go in the area including the Yalaha Bakery. If you like bakery products and German style sandwiches, this is your place to visit within walking distance from the home. We were lazy and drove twice for the food and bakery snacks. I found myself enjoying the baked goods while staring through the large picture windows looking at the lake. We plan on being back next year.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this house. Beautiful views, great places to walk amongst the beautiful trees and we appreciated how the owners kept the integrity of this charming 1920's house. We loved sitting in the sun room and watching the sun set every night. Old Florida at its best.
A very nice spacious home and nicely decorated. The view of the Lake is amazing. Loved taking walks along the quiet, beautiful tree lined street that runs along the lake. A very big lake! The variety of birds from peacocks to cardinals, ospreys, was fun to see. It was a great location for our trip. Pretty direct to the airport, not far from a supermarket and family we were down to see. It was nice being able to go to the Mission Inn for a swim in their pool. A really pretty area. We would definitely like to stay at the house again if we are in the area and will recommend it to others.
