I am a local who loves Tulsa and the surrounding area.
Jill Jones purchased this house in 1997
The historic Yorktown neighborhood is the ideal Tulsa location with easy access all the best local spots. Quiet street, walking distance to Utica square for shops and restaurants, wonderful neighbors, and right in the middle of everything happening in town.
This house has a lovely picture window and sunroom which appealed to me from the start. Also love an older home with wood floors and historic design qualities. Not to mention the large lot with mature trees.
Everything was great. The only limiting factor is one bathroom.
The house is very cute and kept pretty clean. It has three nice size bedrooms, plus a washer & dryer, so this was a perfect fit for our family of six! We all had plenty of room as each bedroom was a good size (our room even had enough space for a pack n' play) and one room had a desk. The beds were all nice sizes too (the smallest was a full). We were able to use the washer and dryer to keep up with our kids laundry and not have to pack as much - a huge plus!
We were in town visiting family and celebrating my grandpa's 80th birthday in Sapulpua. This house was within a couple minutes of the highway, so even traveling to Sapulpua was quick and easy. We did not go to Utica Square, but it was within walking distance, and it was close to some great museums, and Woodward Park which is so lovely!
The only cons I noted were: though the house was kept quite clean, the the fans were dusty - but that's easy to miss.
Also, this IS an old house and it does smell a bit old. I would check with Jill if you have allergies b/c it's likely that the old foundation/basement stays damp based on the smell - but it does NOT smell moldy, just damp/old. I was worried about my allergies but I didn't get congested or headaches, so I don't think this is an issue, and I would stay there again. Just something to be aware of.
Extra Pluses: Jill had a large selection of books, videos, and games to pass time if you need. We also enjoyed watching cable television in the mornings, which was a treat for us :) She also put together a little booklet of local attractions. (There was not a guide on HOW to work the television - which remote does what - which would have been helpful.)
We would definitely stay at this property again! Overall it was a great location, had a really great layout and efficient space for our family, and was in a great location.
Whenever we come to Tulsa for an extended stay of any kind, we stay at this property. It is just a joy, staying here! Jill is so very easy to work with, and the house is just like home to us. The place is spacious and always clean; the kitchen is well stocked; the yard is charming. Thank you so much, Jill, for sharing your house with us! I would certainly recommend the property (and its owner) to anyone coming to Tulsa.
This was my families first time using VRBO or anything other than a traditional hotel and thanks to Jill and her property it will not be our last. The home is almost 100 years old and is absolutely adorable on the outside, love the detail on the front porch. The inside is very spacious with enough updates to make it very comfortable but not so many to make it feel out of place, Jill found that happy medium which is hard to do. The beds were comfortable and the heating system did the job in sub freezing temperatures. The kitchen was well stocked with plenty of pots and pans for cooking and dishes for serving. There was a collection of spices left behind from other travelers and we left our own Tony Chachere's Cajun seasoning from South Louisiana for those willing to try it, sprinkle like salt and you are good to go.
The neighborhood was quaint and very well located with easy access to services such as grocery stores, pharmacies, shopping, and a few restaurants. The best thing was the ease and ability to get on and off the main thoroughfares to get where we needed to go. We were no more than 10-15 minutes from everything we wanted to do. I highly recommend the world class museums in Tulsa, we visited Philbrook (contemporary art), Gilcrease (Native American Art) and the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art as well as all of the beautiful art-deco downtown
Jill was a wonderful host with quick responses to questions and everything was just as she stated, we would definitely stay here again if we ever found ourselves in the Tulsa area again.
I used to live in this neighborhood, which is why we chose this house for a visit to Oklahoma. For a historic home in the area, it's spacious and has many large mature trees in the landscape. The layout of the furniture could use a redesign but otherwise it's comfortable with each bedroom having plenty of storage space. The kitchen is spacious and we loved the sky light. Lots of natural light in the living room too.
The Yorktown neighborhood is charming and central. An easy walk to Utica Square and even Cherry Street if you're a walker. I miss hearing the bells chime daily from the square. If you love historic homes, you'll appreciate this area. Sidewalks make walking around easy.
A few notes about the backyard: there's a small pond not easily visible from the back door - a concern for someone with a small child or dog (we had both). There is also an iron fence that our small dog escaped through but luckily was found 24 hours later.
This is a cute, comfortable and cozy house. We were in town for a horse show and it was close to the expo center and lots of restaurants. The owner was great to work with and fixed the few small issues we had. Would rent again but is already booked for our dates next year :(
