Gorgeous remote park like setting. Peace and quiet. Hit the reset button and renew. We also have a sister cabin to this property 1/3 of the mile down the road called Billy Goat Gruff. VRBO#619000. These make great properties for a retreat or a family reunion.
You can get away from it all here -- In the winter we enjoy a roaring fire in the wood-burning stove- -- early mornings as the sun rises- -- nights on the observation deck counting shooting stars. Our koi pond makes this an excellent spot for bird watching... owls, hawks, hummingbirds and a family of quail.
This home with a great view and proximity to Goat Mountain is a gem. It's a beautifully appointed spacious retreat with every amenity one could ask for. So many niches to nest in. Lots of great artistic lighting was also well thought out. We delighted in the large kitchen with a beautiful table; we enjoyed sitting around to enjoy dining on the meals we cooked using the thoughtful appliances and cooking vessels. It was nice to have a simple thing like a coffee bean grinder at hand. Coffee just tastes better in the morning in the Landers desert. I enjoyed the koi pond. The sound of the water added to the nice zen quality in the outdoor space. The yard has a lookout tower with views and sitting. It was a unique feature with relaxing views. Very nicely planned. The beds and bedrooms were perfectly cozy. Nice, well thought out quality bedding, too. The deep soaking tub was perfection in one of the well thought out bathrooms. The grounds were fenced for safety and our dog liked exploring the large boundaries. Our party of four had an uncongested amount of space. The front porch was great to chill on and watch the evening light change. The rancho-style covered porch in the back was another element we enjoyed, as well as the fire pit at night.
Now to Shelly and Mark: There was a surprising hangout room with sound system and a stack of vinyl. Very special indeed. They obviously really love this oasis they created for visitors to enjoy. They are also 100% committed to being accessible for their guests. Bonus: a laundry room. I will definitely dream about visiting again soon. I was enchanted by my stay. Hope to return again someday. Thanks to Mark and Shelly for your hospitality.
A great get-a-way from (almost) everything. This place has everything you'll need and then some. A fully stocked kitchen plus the living areas are filled with games, puzzles, books, movies and records/cds. Be sure to go to La Copine (open only Th-Sun) the food was out of this world. We also enjoyed Two Guys Pizza in Yucca Valley. We were there for 5 weeks in January and February so we didn't get to use the outside as much as others. The property is beyond beautiful, like an old west movie set and fully fenced for our little dog to roam his heart out. Lots of little additions like the koi pond and the observation deck were also enjoyed by us numerous times. If you were there for a weekend or even a week, the downsides probably wouldn't affect you: the internet service was VERY unreliable (not the owners fault). We also found the kitchen to have inadequate lighting and the heating units to operate sporadically. (There is a wood burning stove in the family room and we did use it.) This property is located 30 minutes from Joshua Tree Park & 1 hour from Palm Springs. The owners were very responsive (and quickly) to our questions/concerns. All in all, a great property which would be super fun for a family and/or group of friends to chill out in the desert.
perfect place to unwind and get away from the daily hustle and bustle of city life. I loved sitting on the back patio, drinking coffee (or a glass of wine) and listening to the water flowing in the Koi pond. Very peaceful and quite. The house is lovely, could not have asked for anything more.
We stayed here for about a week and it was fantastic. The house is beautifully furnished, the property is spacious, and the location is excellent - far enough from town to be quiet and peaceful yet not so far that it was a pain to get groceries or other necessities as needed. I had coffee each morning sitting on the back porch and watching the great horned owls in a tree about 20 feet away. It was stunning. This place is superb, and I highly recommend it.
Our stay in the home exceeded our expectations . The observation deck at night is magical. We were visited by a beautiful owl at dusk, and it was a pleasure to cook dinner ( great kitchen) and luxuriate on the back patio or one of the many sitting areas. We will definitely hope to stay st the property again. The owners clearly love their home and it was all around a wonderful experience.
I spent a long weekend in this home with three friends and a dog, and it couldn't have been a better place for the type of vacation we wanted!
This house is huge - thought it's spread across just one floor, we could all be in the house at the same time and feel like we each had the privacy we wanted. There were 2 bedrooms and each featured a comfortable mattress with lots of nice pillows and blankets. Both bathrooms were well stocked; one had a nice shower that got good and hot and with good pressure, and the other had a lovely clawfoot tub which I unfortunately did not get to soak in but it looked great. The kitchen was home to our many conversations, travel plan pow-wows, and impromptu snack and happy hours; there were more than enough kitchen tools, utensils, dishware, pots and pans etc. for cooking had we wanted to, and there was a dishwasher to make cleaning up a cinch. We lazed away afternoons on the porches out front and back and when it got too dark at night, we curled up in the living room for a movie or two.
Our dog really enjoyed this property too - the whole place is fenced in and he was able to run around and play as he pleased. Because of the danger rattlesnakes, one small area off the back porch is carefully fenced with chicken wire to keep them out, and this was a good and safe spot to take the dog out late at night.
Landers doesn't have too much going on on its own, but you can drive to Joshua Tree National Park, Pioneertown, and other towns quite easily. Some local highlights for us included the Noah Purifoy art installations, the Integratron, Pappy and Harriet's, and Whitewater Canyon (which has hiking trails that dogs can join you on).
The hosts were excellent - they will not be at the property during your stay, but they are very accessible, typically responding within about 20 minutes. We never encountered any problems with the property that required their assistance, so that's also a plus - this place is very well maintained and the hosts have thought of everything you might need in advance of your arrival.
I highly recommend staying here if you'd like a peaceful and secluded respite from your hectic city life. We all felt very relaxed and quickly got into a rhythm with sunrise and sunset. I only wish I had been able to stay longer!
Our house is roughly 20-25 minutes from the park entrance, Pappy and Harriets in Pioneer town is 15 minutes West and only 2 minutes to the famed Integratron. We are surrounded by trees in an extremely peaceful and zen setting near Goat Mountain in Landers.
