About Michelle Strong

We are filmmakers, musicians... a creative couple who bought this place as a way to rejuvenate and escape the stresses of the city.

Michelle Strong purchased this house in 2010

Why Michelle Strong chose Inland Empire

Gorgeous remote park like setting. Peace and quiet. Hit the reset button and renew. We also have a sister cabin to this property 1/3 of the mile down the road called Billy Goat Gruff. VRBO#619000. These make great properties for a retreat or a family reunion.

What makes this house unique

You can get away from it all here -- In the winter we enjoy a roaring fire in the wood-burning stove- -- early mornings as the sun rises- -- nights on the observation deck counting shooting stars. Our koi pond makes this an excellent spot for bird watching... owls, hawks, hummingbirds and a family of quail.

great escape

  • 5 of 5

perfect place to unwind and get away from the daily hustle and bustle of city life. I loved sitting on the back patio, drinking coffee (or a glass of wine) and listening to the water flowing in the Koi pond. Very peaceful and quite. The house is lovely, could not have asked for anything more.

Amazingly gorgeous and peaceful desert getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for about a week and it was fantastic. The house is beautifully furnished, the property is spacious, and the location is excellent - far enough from town to be quiet and peaceful yet not so far that it was a pain to get groceries or other necessities as needed. I had coffee each morning sitting on the back porch and watching the great horned owls in a tree about 20 feet away. It was stunning. This place is superb, and I highly recommend it.

This home was absolutely lovely... clean, comfortable, artistically decorated, and spacious.

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in the home exceeded our expectations . The observation deck at night is magical. We were visited by a beautiful owl at dusk, and it was a pleasure to cook dinner ( great kitchen) and luxuriate on the back patio or one of the many sitting areas. We will definitely hope to stay st the property again. The owners clearly love their home and it was all around a wonderful experience.

Gorgeous, stylish, remote spot

  • 5 of 5

I spent a long weekend in this home with three friends and a dog, and it couldn't have been a better place for the type of vacation we wanted!

This house is huge - thought it's spread across just one floor, we could all be in the house at the same time and feel like we each had the privacy we wanted. There were 2 bedrooms and each featured a comfortable mattress with lots of nice pillows and blankets. Both bathrooms were well stocked; one had a nice shower that got good and hot and with good pressure, and the other had a lovely clawfoot tub which I unfortunately did not get to soak in but it looked great. The kitchen was home to our many conversations, travel plan pow-wows, and impromptu snack and happy hours; there were more than enough kitchen tools, utensils, dishware, pots and pans etc. for cooking had we wanted to, and there was a dishwasher to make cleaning up a cinch. We lazed away afternoons on the porches out front and back and when it got too dark at night, we curled up in the living room for a movie or two.

Our dog really enjoyed this property too - the whole place is fenced in and he was able to run around and play as he pleased. Because of the danger rattlesnakes, one small area off the back porch is carefully fenced with chicken wire to keep them out, and this was a good and safe spot to take the dog out late at night.

Landers doesn't have too much going on on its own, but you can drive to Joshua Tree National Park, Pioneertown, and other towns quite easily. Some local highlights for us included the Noah Purifoy art installations, the Integratron, Pappy and Harriet's, and Whitewater Canyon (which has hiking trails that dogs can join you on).

The hosts were excellent - they will not be at the property during your stay, but they are very accessible, typically responding within about 20 minutes. We never encountered any problems with the property that required their assistance, so that's also a plus - this place is very well maintained and the hosts have thought of everything you might need in advance of your arrival.

I highly recommend staying here if you'd like a peaceful and secluded respite from your hectic city life. We all felt very relaxed and quickly got into a rhythm with sunrise and sunset. I only wish I had been able to stay longer!

The Perfect Desert Oasis

  • 5 of 5

Mark and Michelle's home is the ideal desert retreat if you're looking for a secluded and relaxing desert vacation. The house is clean, welcoming and well stocked with all the necessities. Although it is not technically in Joshua Tree, it's just a 15 minute drive into town and well worth it. Our German Shepard loved playing in the yard while being securely enclosed by the gated fencing all around. Whether you're watching the stars at night on the observation deck, barbecuing, enjoying their endless record collection, or listening to the wind chimes in the back yard- you are bound to fall in the love with this house and location. I would highly recommend Mark and Michelle's home to anyone looking to stay in the Landers/JT area, and hope to return again!

Relaxing and beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for over a month in this amazing house and had a great and very relaxing time. The owners truly care about the place. It has a great, fully equipped kitchen, nice good bathrooms and plenty of art on the walls. A great place if you want to get away from it all and just enjoy the silence and beauty of the desert. I'd love to return to this house in the future.
