Les Metairies is a house on two levels which has had recent significant rebuilding and redecoration works. This property would provide separate accommodation for two families. The levels comprise:
Lower level: summer kitchen/lounge area, two bedrooms and bathroom. The kitchen has a large freezer, built in electric fan oven and hob, refrigerator and washing machine. The lounge area has a sofa bed, dining table and chairs, TV (SKY), DVD and Wii. There is a tumble dryer in the garage which is off this level.
Upper level: lounge / diner, kitchen with fridge/freezer, electric fan oven gas hob, dish washer and coffee machine. There are three bedrooms, bathroom, with shower, and separate toilet.
Outside: large heated pool, barbecue area with table & chairs, summer house, with small snooker/billiard table.there are plenty of sun loungers and there is a quiet area with gazebo at the bottom of the garden. The house backs onto an historical site and there are plenty of walks in the area.
We are currently living in the property and carrying out works prior to the Summer season in preparation for our guests.
Brian Cunningham-Burt purchased this house in 2007
The former 'sous-sol' of this property was developed to create an independent apartment, there is also an internal staircase so the apartment can be accessed from within the main house, and so could be used as a guest suite or separate dwelling.
Being able to live comfortably over the two floors and room to be together as a group on one floor. The garden and pool area are large enough to cater for large groups.
First impression upon arrival through the security gates was 'Wow'. The house was situated on a huge corner plot with amazing garden and pool. We have 4 children and the house easily accommodated all of us with more than enough space. The facilities were like home from home and having two kitchens both up and downstairs was ideal, especially as we spent most of the time outside by the pool. Previous comments about the fridge size please ignore as big fridge freezer now downstairs aswell as upstairs fridge and small freezer. Plenty to keep kids occupied with pool table, wii and garden games. Found some lovely restaurants nearby but enjoyed cooking on the BBQ and eating outside. Brian and Sue couldn't be more helpful and also the local maintenance man who was available for any advice or help of local area.
We had an amazing stay. Thank you
We have just returned from a two week stay here and have had a wonderful time. The house is so well equipped, the pool is fantastic and the house has a really homely, comfortable feel. I would agree with the previous reviewer that the lack of a downstairs fridge is frustrating as it is tricky fitting food and drink for 10 people into the one small fridge - a fridge by the outside seating area would help this, especially when you need a cold drink by the pool! A welcome pack would also be useful, although we enjoyed looking through the various leaflets. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this lovely property!
We spent nearly two weeks here and thought it was great! It's well equipped, spacious, clean , light and airy!
The pool was fantastic, my three children would wake in the morning, & the first thing they said was, "can we go in the pool"!!!
Weather was great too, apart from a storm one night!!, I hate them!!!
Just have a couple of niggles that I would like to say,
The lack of a fridge down stairs was a little bit frustrating, there was eight of us staying and sometimes the fridge upstairs wasn't big enough for drinks and food!!! Also, there was no welcome pack/ instruction book? We have found these in most holiday homes we have visited, it tells you things like, where the fuse box is if there is a power cut, local hospitals in case you need them! Etc. Things like that.
It obviously didn't interfere with our wonderful stay and Brian was more than helpful when we did have to contact him! Thank you.
We would love to come back in the future!
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely house in Jarnac. The pool was a wonderful and we even swam in the rain! Pool table and garden games were a hit with the teenagers.
Spacious rooms and good facilities. Nice large bathrooms. Sunny garden.
Watched the red squirrels chasing each other round the garden. Little garden lizards playing on the stone wall. Jarnac is a lovely town, preferred it to Cognac. Walked by the beautiful riverside. Good base - we visited La Rochelle, Ile de Re and Massignac adventure park
We have just spent two fantastic weeks at this wonderful home. The facilities were extremely good. The location was also ideal as there were several large supermarkets nearby. The house itself was at the end of a very private, quiet road. In fact, we did not venture out too much as our family enjoyed the house and pool so much. This is a good family house for us and our four children as well as their granddad!
Les Metairies is a very quaint and quiet hamlet which is 2.5km from the very pretty town of Jarnac where the famous Courvoisier Brandy distillery and Museum is based. The town has many small cafes and over 3 supermarkets and a town market for local produce. You can take a boat trip up the river Charente to Cognac. Cognac is 14km away and a very vibrant and buzzing town which has a great Jazz festival in the summer months.nearest airport is Bordeaux and la Rochelle. Nearest port is either St Malo or Caen and closest beach is Royan although there are some pretty man made beaches within 20mins drive.
By train: The Paris – Bordeaux/Toulouse TGV service stops at Angoulême station, only 25 minutes away, and Paris is just over 2 hours.
By air: there are flights from the airports at La Rochelle,Poitiers, Bordeaux and Limoges. There are limited flights into Angouleme during the summer months
