Our family purchased this property shortly after visiting a close friend who lives in the area. It was one of the first properties we saw, and we kept on coming back to it. You will feel the same way!
Sendaf purchased this chateau / country house in 2013
The property has a Estate feeling and while being within a 5-minute drive to downtown Hillsdale, nearby farms and cultural attractions, it is one of the few properties in the area abutting the State Park with direct access to trails from its own backyard while sitting on the top of the hill with Northern views of the Berkshires and Western views of the Catskills. It is the perfect place to vacation all-year-round.
Newly furnished with contemporary and transitional furniture. Fresh/new linens provided.
Extremely comfortable house ideal for relaxation and/or entertainment. Conveniently located to nearby Catamount Ski and Adventure Area.
My family and I stayed at this house for a weekend. And the pictures on this website do not do the house any justice. The house is beautiful. The views are exceptional. The owner was very helpful with all my questions and concerns as was the caretaker. She was there to greet us at the door and showed us around the house. I will definitely be returning again with my family.

My Response Thank you for your kind words. We are glad you liked both the house, its setting and surroundings. It is a magical place! We will try to improve the pictures posted and highly appreciate your feedback to improve our listing
This home was very beautiful. We had about 7 adults enjoying a fall weekend away, and I'm actually thinking about booking again for a summer trip! I love the house layout - there is a living room area near the kitchen (which I love because everyone ends up in the kitchen) and also another grand living room on the other side of the home, both offering fireplaces and cozy places to relax. The house was updated and modern, and had any amenity and pantry staple that we needed which was great (I forgot sugar!). The view of the mountains is beautiful and you are a short hike away form Bish Bash falls. We visited Great Barrington and Sheffield - both about 15-20 minutes away so a great central location. The house was very clean, the owner was attentive and I'd certainly recommend!
Property: great views, privacy, sunset vistas, easy access to hiking and bike trails. Runners can get in some hill work.
Home: Bright, well furnished, very comfortable.Large, easily accommodates family / friends.
Utilities: all good with ample hot water, laundry, multiple full bathrooms.
Kitchen: all works - this is a family home rented out at times. You will be sharing space in the refrigerator and freezer. Cookware adequate. Stove, oven , microwave, coffee-maker, blender, outdoor grill all sufficient. If you are a more particular cook planning to prepare meals, consider bringing your own cookware e.g cast iron pan. Salad spinner also not present (as far as I could tell).
Outdoor pool: a treat, very nice, with excellent heater and filter. Well maintained, but no solar cover, so warmth is lost as nights can be cool. Be prepared to empty the basket filter of leaves in the autumn.
Suggestions for owner (we talked):
1. Hard copy book "Welcome to our home" for guests would be helpful if placed on kitchen counter.
2. In the book: detailed information concerning what to do with garbage, recyclables, how to close up the house, at the end of the tenant's stay, location of key systems such as circuit box for electricity, main water valves, who to call in an emergency of owner is not available.
3. Would also be helpful to have more explicit information as to how to use the TV / entertainment systems. Internet access is ok, but broadband not consistently sufficient for streaming movies or music. It might be helpful to state this, either on-line or in the hard copy "Welcome" book.
4. Fireplaces - it was too warm to use during our stay, but if would be helpful if "Welcome" book addressed some typical questions e. g. where is the wood, special precautions, where is fire extinguisher or fire suppression blanket.
Overall: we would certainly consider returning and would recommend this property for those who seek a calm, spacious vacation rental. Had a lovely and peaceful time. The owner was extraordinarily gracious and responsive to our texts and emails as questions came up. Having a hard copy "Welcome" book will (hopefully) spare him most of the queries.
Could not ask for a better Home Away experience! From booking to check in to check out, the home owner was very friendly and easy to work with. He met us at his spectacular home, gave us a brief tour and answered any and all questions we had. The home is spacious and comfortable and beautifully decorated. Every window has a wonderful view and the home is bright and airy. The house is perfectly situated with loads of nearby activities. Bash Bish Falls, Taconic State Park, Catamount, boating on Copake Lake, apple picking and Great Barrington for those looking for a quaint downtown experience. Lots to keep my group of 11 (older kids and adults) busy for two days though we also enjoyed hanging around the house. All in all, a winning weekend:)
We rented this house during new year's week and it was perfect for our family. The property is beautiful, modern, clean, and well decorated (we loved the furniture!). Our favorite area of the house was the kitchen/living room/dining room space - the rooms are large and open and flowed very well...ideal for gatherings of families and friends. The second living room on the other side of the house is huge and filled with comfortable sofas and chairs and our kids loved playing in there. The owners were responsive and easy going. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to come back very soon.
This home was a great place for family members from NY and MA to meet up and spend a nice long weekend together.
The home was large, very clean and stocked very well! The open concept made it so easy for everyone to help out at dinner and not feel crowded. The dining area seats 10 easily. There are plenty of bathrooms for everyone to get ready in, without being on top of one another. There are plenty of bedrooms and even an office with a blow up mattress. The views from the house were great! The area is very quiet and secluded. The owners were fantastic and responded to all inquiries within a short period of time. Since they did not have anyone at the home prior to our arrival, they allowed us to arrive a few hours early and they were flexible with the departure time as well. We enjoyed our hike to Bash Bish Falls. We hiked in from the MA side which was much more challenging than hiking from the NY side. My family had a great time at this property and I would definitely recommend it for a large group gathering! My only recommendation would be to arrive during the day since the area at night is dark. We missed the left turn into the long driveway as we drove up the hill because our GPS told us we arrived! You just have to bear left at the fork!
Beautiful home on a large property. Well kept with spacious rooms, ample bathrooms, fire place. We spent the weekend at the home for a reunion with four young families. Large kitchen with open concept dining room and family room. Great outdoor space to grill, hike and run freely. Pool in summer time. Would definitely recommend for large party.
Within a two hour drive from New York City, this property is conveniently located next to the Catamount Ski Area, Hillsdale, Copake Falls, Copake Lake, Egremont and Great Barrington. Also within 20 minutes to Butternut Ski. Enjoy swimming in your own heated pool; hiking trail starts at property through State Park to Bash Bish Falls; play golf (Copake Country Club or Egremont); skiing (Catamount or Butternut); water sports (Copake Lake); or simply relax and enjoy all the cultural offerings of the Berkshires (Tanglewood). An ideal place to get away all year round.
