About Vivi Valentine & William Hutchinson
I always had a dream of living on a farm. We were lucky to be able to buy this old farm and be able to bring it back to life in the last few years. Adding animals and clearing pastures, fixing up the old farmhouse and the stone walls. It is a magical place in the middle of a magical island.
Vivi Valentine & William Hutchinson purchased this House in 2009
Why Vivi Valentine & William Hutchinson chose Mackerel Cove
Because we loved the idea of bringing our kids up in this environment and we also were very interested in protecting this property.
What makes this House unique
The location! You can walk to town, to the beach, and to a ferry that can take you to Newport. Its a peaceful farm setting in the middle of a beautiful summer destination. Jamestown is a lovely little town, the village is a 10 minute or less walk from the farm and sits on Conanicut Island which is right in the middle of the spectacular Narragansett Bay, Newport is a short ferry ride or drive away! It's a 2 1/2 mile drive from the farm, or you can take the ferry from downtown Jamestown. Jamestown has some very nice restaurants, and bakeries. The Jamestown ARTS Center has summer camps for kids, art classes for adults, and lots of great programs and events throughout the year. There are also other summer camps for kids here; Save The Bay summer camps, sailing camp with the Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation, kayak and paddle board rentals, etc... There are fabulous restaurants in Jamestown and Newport, The Tennis Hall of Fame, the amazing Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals, lots of other great music, festivals and activities. Like stepping back in time
Three generations, plus our hound dog, spent a magical week at the farm. The home is so very lovely, curated perfectly for an authentic look and feel and integrating modernity (updated and fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms, wifi) in a way that makes the stay absolutely enjoyable. We won't soon forget the tree swing; our time spent chatting across the fence at the chickens, goats, sheep, and donkeys; nights out back with the fire pit roaring; or even rainy days spent marveling at the meticulous attention to detail inside. Upon departure we unanimously agreed that our stay had been a terrific respite from everyday life, to which -- alas -- we've now returned!
Everything was excellent!
Everything was as described. The owners were accomodative and responsive.
Very nice house and exceptional nice people.
Clean, Welcoming & Beautiful
This place looks lovelier in person. It was incredibly clean, stocked with earth friendly supplies, just in case you forget your sunblock etc. The proximity to Newport was ideal, 15 mins drive or you can take a ferry. My children really enjoyed seeing the animals and picking out their eggs for breakfast with Hutch. If we ever decide to go back to Newport again this will be where we would stay.
Absolutely charming! Great Location!
We rented the property for our whole family to stay for an extended weekend to attend the wedding of my Niece in Newport. Jamestown Island is amazing, beautiful and laid back. The location was so convenient to all the sites and to Newport, the setting was amazing, relaxing, and such a nice respite after a busy day. The kitchen served us well as a group dinner preparation area and the big historic dining room was well used for family dinners and conversation of the days events. Our grandson loved visiting the animals and walking the grounds. There were lots of rooms and areas to find quiet time as well. The bedroom arrangements (all interconnected do require some family courtesies but for us it all worked out great. Just need to knock before heading to the bathroom upstairs! We also had our 85 year old grandmother with us and one day she was not feeling up to leaving the house. Vivi, who was a very gracious host, even volunteered to check in on our mother while we were out! I would definitely rent again.
Spent 2 days with family at this magical home. Such character and charm!! We had some free time Friday afternoon and later in the evening - I expected my five young adult children to head to Newport to hit the pubs or the Cliff Walk- instead we all stayed on the property and enjoyed the home. Great family time!!!! Very comfortable and welcoming for our large family.
