Shooting Star Cabin 1 is a beauty of a Jackson Hole vacation rental: substantial, welcoming and full of light, its rustic barn board siding and log-and-mortar walls harking back to old Wyoming while inside all is comfort and joy, with luxury appliances and a state-of-the-art sound system. The peaked, shingled roofline echoes the mountains that surge against the sky for miles upon miles; velvet lawn and native plantings apron the property. When the tall mullioned windows are open, Cabin 1 fills up with sweet, dry mountain air.
The front door swings open to the cabin-like foyer; steps beyond, creamy walls and bleached wood amplify the wonderful natural light of Cabin 1. The house seems to float on sunlight. An airy, wide open Great Room crowns the top of the house, and vast wilderness vistas roll away from every window. The kitchen, dining and living areas share this big, bright space, while a distributed audio system saturates the room with music, movie soundtracks, or the morning news - whatever you choose. The long wood dining table, overhung by a circular chandelier with Edison bulbs, stands between the fire lit living room and the luxury kitchen. It is a wonderful place to celebrate, especially when snow is falling silently outside the windows. A magic feeling of expectation for the new day begins to gather: a world of white, fresh painted.
In the kitchen, a center island with prep sink is bracketed by a fabulous, six-burner Wolf range at one end and a counter/breakfast bar at the other. The kitchen has a walk-in pantry, a huge refrigeration system and a wine cooler. The Great Room is the heart of the house; wrapped in windows and anchored by a wood-burning fireplace set in a wall of Wyoming stone. A huge flat screen TV is mounted above the fireplace; below is a wide stone ledge that radiates warmth. Welcoming sofas and armchairs are grouped around a wide coffee table; firelight dances over the walls.
Like the Great Room, the master bedroom sits at the top of the house, beams spanning the high ceiling. Huge picture windows frame the Tetons. The soft, snowy king bed faces a wide stone fireplace – gas fired – and a big flat screen TV above it. A pair of chairs wait in an alcove, the perfect quiet place for morning coffee, and the floor is carpeted in soft ivory wool. A walk-in closet offers ample clothes storage. Just off the master bedroom is the sumptuous master bath, paneled in painted wood. There are double sinks, a soaking tub, a separate shower roomy enough for two, and a water closet - not to mention grandstanding views of the valley.
The ground floor of Cabin 1 has a delightful, four-berth bunkroom where the young at heart will feel very much at home. A dresser and drawers built in beneath the beds provide plenty of space for unpacking. Next door is an airy, deeply comfortable guest room with an upholstered queen bed and a private bath. And, at the end of the house, a second master – rounding out the full complement of bedrooms for this classic Wyoming luxury rental home.
Windows in the downstairs master look out in all directions; from the king size bed you can gaze straight up the ski slopes and plot out the next day’s routes. A handsome gas fireplace and a flat screen TV face the bed, and a velvet armchair accompanied by a brass reading lamp stands beside another window. This big, inviting bedroom has a private bath as well, with double sinks and a bath/shower combination.
Cabin 1 sits comfortably amongst pines and native grasses. The wide stone terrace is the happiest of blessings in the warm months, with its staggering panorama of ranchland, Tetons and the majestic Snake River Range. Here you can nap or read on the outdoor couch, soak in the hot tub, track the cherry-red tram as it soars up and down the mountainside, cook locally raised beef on the gas grill and tip your glass to the star spangled sky.
