About the property


A 200 year-old DETACHED Charentaise villa, lots of character, stone walls, beams and original stone fireplace. Modern kitchen & bathrooms. The large, mature, secluded, south-facing garden, is not overlooked and has sun-loungers, table and 2 BBQ's. Lots of space to play. The 10m x 4m private pool has roman steps for easy access and is heated from the end of May. The pool area has a summer kitchen/utility room (with fridge), shower & WC. The games room has a pool/snooker table, table football & darts. The swimming pool, table tennis, books, boardgames, WiFi, UK + French TV, DVD, video games etc. will keep everyone occupied. The open plan kitchen/diner has a large teak table & terracotta tiles. The lounge has a large TV with UK channels. The lounge and all the bedrooms have fly screens. Relax with books & games on the mezzanine. Central heating and a large fireplace for LONG-LETS between November and March. Just right' sums it up - a really lovely gite in a super location. The house genuinely felt like a home, with all the creature comforts and more. The pool was a treat, being a real part of the house rather than a distant feature, as is so often the case. The coast and country activities were both within an easy drive, with lots to see.

This is a spacious, yet cosy house with large garden and lots to do. The games room has a pool/snooker table, darts and table football, and there is also a table tennis table in a sheltered and covered area. The open plan kitchen/dining room has been completely renovated with fully-fitted units and all new appliances. All bathrooms and the kitchen are modern. The kitchen/diner has a large teak rustic farmhouse table, traditional fireplace, other original features, wooden beams and exposed stone. The large garden is mature with trees and bushes providing privacy, and room to play . The swimming pool has a terrace with sunbeds, chairs and table. The fully equipped summer kitchen/utility room is next to the pool terrace, making it a great area for alfresco dining. There is also a poolside shower/WC. Pool towels are supplied as is the pool furniture including a large garden table and chairs, parasol, sun-loungers, and a couple of small tables and chairs for a quiet relaxing drink

Wonderful home in peaceful village

A week of glorious sunshine in the beautiful French countryside.

This villa had everything we could have wished for with lots of little extras. A fabulous home from home.

The kitchen is a delight and particularly well equipped for those who love to cook.

The beds were very comfortable and quality linen and pillows.

We loved the pool which is a generous size and the raised patio where we could sit and relax in the evening. So many good things, table tennis, pool, table football, all added to the fun.

Chris and Beverly made booking easy and provided lots of helpful information and a nice touch - a welcome pack of wine cheese and bread.

We had a fabulous meal at L'Auberge Glycine in Taillebourg, a real treat by the river.

One very small thing, the wifi signal could be stronger. It may be the rural location or the beautiful old thick house walls but nothing could spoil our enjoyment of this home. Thank you

A lovely rural retreat

The house, garden and pool are all lovely. The property is well

equipped and comfortable.

The immediate area is rural and quiet but Saintes is close by and is a really pleasant town with plenty to see and do. It also has the benefit of a railway station with regular services to Bordeaux and St Rochelle.

Please note there are a lot of steps and stairs in the property (all entrances have steps) as it is on a variety of levels.

Absolutely fantasic holiday!! The villa is so so much better that what you could imagine from the pictures provided. My husband and I walked around the house for about an hour in amazement. Everything you could think of is provided and more.. weather was fantastic, pool was fantastic, the kids loved it so much.

Villa was clean and fresh. Lovely and modern without loosing the character of the house.

Fantastic communication from the owners.

The area is rural but nothing was too far away!

Exactly what we needed, a home from home with a private pool, beautiful weather, beautiful surroundings and so peaceful. Enough to shut the world away and relax and enjoy.. (that was our choice).

Highly recommend to all!!

Stunning property

This is a lovely property - a real 'home from home'. We stayed here for two weeks with our two adult daughters who also loved it. Chris & Beverley have gone to great lengths to provide all that you would. The accommodation was immaculate on arrival with a lovely Welcome Pack which was a nice touch. The pool area has a kitchen area also with a shower and bathroom off that. We used the bikes on a couple of days too. We couldn't default it and would gladly return. A very peaceful location.

Saintes has a HyperU with everything you need for a self catering holiday - no need to bring anything from the UK. It's about 20 mins by car. There is a SuperU (mini market) closer by if you need something in a rush. We visited lots of towns on the coast, Saintes several times for lunch, dinner and shopping. (Need to tune in to French opening times!). We visited Cognac, Angouleme and La Rochelle a couple of times. Empty roads - easy driving.

We would definitely return here and would highly recommend it to others.

This spacious villa is a great place for a fun filled family holiday, enjoy the many things to do in the house (no need to go out every day), and in the area. It is set in rural surroundings, but benefits from being 10 minutes from a large town (Saintes). There area is surrounded by fields, woodlands and vineyards. A convenience store, providing essentials such as fresh bread and milk, is 5 minutes drive. A mobile boulangerie van passes by the house each day, and there is a boulangerie 5 minutes away in Taillebourg. Explore the immediate area on foot or by bike.


Saintes is 10 mins away, a Roman town with many restaurants, shops and banks, it is located on the river Charente. Fantastic beaches at Royan can be reached in 40 mins, the attractive ports of La Rochelle and Bordeaux are an hour. Markets at Saintes and other local towns offer a wide range of fresh meat, fish, fruit & veg.


The region is famous for fresh seafood and the local oysters are the best in France. There are many vineyards offering tours and tasting, as well as brandy tours in Cognac.
