Overview

About the property

Peaceful, Spacious, Log Home With Three Bedrooms And Two Bathrooms.

This spacious, tastefully decorated three level log home will bring you peace. With gorgeous views of snow capped front range peaks, including Mt. Evans, from the great room, bedrooms, and decks, it is easy to remember what life is all about. If you enjoy bird watching, plenty of visits by hummingbirds and other native birds that you will enjoy identifying.

The master bedroom is set off the great room on the second level, with a king sized bed, wood burning fireplace, and separate exit to the outdoor deck. Adjoining both the master bedroom and great room, you will find the most comfortable claw foot bathtub to soak your body after hiking or skiing in the surrounding areas. The kitchen is spacious with a granite countertop for food preparation or eating while sitting on the barstools. Alongside the kitchen is a dining area with a round table and enough chairs for the whole family. Most inviting is the great room with wood burning fireplace, a couch that you can sink into, and chairs surrounding a forged iron coffee table. In the evening, watch the colors change as the sun goes down, grilling on the deck while sipping your favorite drink. At night, enjoy stargazing. On the third level is a loft where you might kick back with a good book, watch a movie in surround sound, turn on the stereo, or take a nap. If you really need to touch base with the Internet world, log onto the computer and get what you need. On the first level find two more bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed, the other with two bunk beds of Aspen log. Between these rooms is the bathroom with a whirlpool tub that fits two adults comfortably. For long trips, feel free to use the washing machine and dryer for a refresh. Exit the first level to the lower deck and swing on the antique ferris wheel chairs while you watch the chipmunks scamper across the wild landscape. If you bring children, they will enjoy the mountain clubhouse, nestled close enough to see from the kitchen window, but far enough to let the kids feel like they're isolated deep in the woods. Behind the house is a fire ring for a campfire or roasting marshmallows. Hike into the backyard, where deer and elk may be seen. While hiking look for mushrooms and old abandoned mines. Walk to the nearby lake for fishing or hiking. Snowshoe, or cross country ski to St Mary's Glacier, James Peak, and beyond. Miles of 4x4, hiking, and mountain biking trails are minutes away. Downhill ski areas close by are Loveland, Berthod Pass, Eldora, Winter Park, and the familiar Summit County areas. Only twenty minutes away is the town of Idaho Springs where you can pan for gold, river raft, zip line, or have a few fresh brews at the Tommyknocker Brewery or search for antiques in nearby Georgetown. If you get the bug, drive to Central City or Blackhawk via I-70, Highway 6, or even 4x4 off road. There you might enjoy sightseeing, the opera or try your luck in the many casinos.

The Mountain House is the perfect place to relax, have fun, and let the best of Colorado find you.

About Gabe Ferrer

In 2002, Gabe and Marisol Ferrer came to Colorado to spend time with their new grandkids in Denver. They built this beautiful home to spend time with their fast growing family. In stark contrast to their native homes of Cuba and Puerto Rico, Gabe and Marisol quickly learned to drive in the snow, dress for the climate, and hike like they were from the mountains. Marisol, nearing retirement, was able to express herself through designing the layout, furnishings, and landscaping of the cabin you will soon enjoy. Now they share their time in Colorado, with their other grandchildren in Arkansas, and with their family in South Florida. For ease of communication with our foreign or domestic guests that wish to communicate in French or Spanish,

Marisol speaks, in addition to English, French and Spanish. Gabe speaks English and Spanish.

Why Gabe Ferrer chose Idaho Springs

This property is less than an hour's drive from Denver, yet it is set at 10,000 feet above sea level. It is a peaceful location that invokes creativity and peace to all who stay there.

What makes this cabin unique

This is a large home that can sleep eight or more very comfortably. It is set in a high alpine area. The many windows bring the mountains to you. If you like music, there are speakers on the outside deck, in the master bathroom, as well as in the great room. There are wild raspberries growing alongside the road which are fun to pick and eat when in their season. The lot adjacent and also below are also part of the property and are fun to explore.

Beautiful place to settle in to viewing mountains galore.

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at the "cabin in the woods." We were gathering for a Thanksgiving a few weeks in advance to share time together at a place that was breathtaking. We were delighted to share our Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings and to take hikes in the woods too. Encountered a small criter in the downstairs bedroom, and hoped there wouldn't be any others joining us. The hot water was an issue, that is not having enough. The heaters in the downstairs bedrooms would trip the breaker, so we were a bit cold in the downstairs bedrooms. Otherwise a great time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your very nice review. We do occasionally have a cricket sneak in the cabin when it gets very cold outside. We have placed extra traps in the garage to avoid this issue in the future. We have increased the temperature setting for the water heater. Regarding the supplemental electric heater in the downstairs bedroom we are purchasing a new one. Also increasing the central gas heater temperature setting will warm the downstairs bedroom better. My most sincere apologies for any inconvenience.

Well-furnished and lovely mountain home

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed a quiet weekend at this cabin in the mountains in late October. The kitchen was great to cook in, and the cabin was well-furnished and clean. Beautiful views at all times of day right off the front deck, and a cozy wood stove for the evening. Hiking was available right out the front door. My only surprise was that even though the cabin was remote, it wasn't terribly secluded. Neighbors' homes were visible on 3 sides, and in this I was a bit disappointed, but overall a lovely place to stay in all seasons.

Colorado stay from 9/12 - 9/19/2017

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your gorgeous cabin in Idaho Springs / Colorado in September of 2017. We had a rough start since we are from Florida and had an encounter with Hurricane Irma a couple days before our departure. We came to Colorado for our son's wedding and to vacation. The cabin and view exceeded our expectations. Your cabin was a home away from home. The cabin was very luxurious and exactly as advertised, if not better. The decoration, comfortable beds, the sun deck and the amazing view made an everlasting impressing and never forgettable memories.

You provided everything and more than what we needed. We did some sight seeing at St. Mary's Glacier, Georgetown, Guanella Pass and the Golden Gate State Park, which I would highly recommend. We were also very content to relax at the cabin and enjoy the view and sun. In the evening we played family games and enjoyed the coziness, sound and warmth of the fireplace. We had a wonderful stay at your cabin and we will be back, hopefully very soon!

Nice August stay at St. Marys Glacier

  • 4 of 5

We came back for our 2nd stay at the house----it's a very nice spot perched high on the mountainside with 30 mile views of Mt. Evans and many other mountains. Our month long stay went very comfortably---the house has all the comforts needed---including a good fireplace insert which we used because of some chilly August nights. Good location----very private but not too far from the attractions of Idaho Springs. Wildlife nearby and some good hikes and fun fishing in the nearby small lakes. We may be back again.

Private retreat with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed in this cabin for about a week and loved every minute of it. While the trip up to the cabin was very steep and added 20 or so minutes from Idaho Springs, it was worth the drive. The home had everything we needed and then some. The views from the deck were priceless! St. Mary's Glacier and fishing were farther away than the description led me to believe, but they were absolutely fabulous! I highly suggest making the trip up to the glacier and taking advantage of the great fishing hole (which has beautiful views as well). You will love your stay at the Ferrer house!
