Casita Juliet has it all for the single traveler or couple. Located on a quiet, downtown street and five minute walk to the Plaza. It is a one bedroom (Queen) little home with a well equipped kitchen, separate eating area, large living room ( couch could sleep one additional guest or child comfortably). It is decorated in my style of antiques, art and whimsy. This is the newest of my five Taos rentals and will soon prove to be as popular as the rest. Folks just seem to love my 'Melissiana' style.
Casita Juliet has all new appliances, dishes and kitchenware, towels and bedding in a charming intimate yet roomy little house. It has two outdoor living areas and of course a ridiculous number of plants--a signature of mine...
Although there are two homes on this property, both have a feeling of privacy with separate off street parking, garden and outdoor living spaces.
Casita Juliet can also be combined with the main house 'Casa Madre' as a family compound for a larger group of up to 12.
The property is fenced and pet friendly. ( No pet fee)
EXCITING NEWS!!! Casita Juliet and main home Casa Madre (Vrbo 482097) were chosen to be on this summers Taos Home & Garden Tour. From foreclosures to Garden Tour quality. Quite a compliment to me and my style. It just shows folks that you do not have to be wealthy to be on the tour. A good eye, a house with good bones, a bit of money, a LOT of work and a sense of creativity and whimsy... Too much fun showing off what I do to 500!
PLEASE NOTE: although my calendar may show reserved dates, please contact me. I have a total of ELEVEN (soon to be 12) Vacation rentals in Taos with accommodations for any size group.
Some women collect shoes or husbands. I seem to collect houses! I love buying old adobes, renovating them, furnishing and decorating then turn them into hugely popular vacation rentals
Casita Juliet is my fifth home and has a wonderful story. This casita is part of a downtown compound and like the big house on the property (VRBO #482097) was in foreclosure for two years. I saw the potential of this property and am lucky enough to have a mother who at age 96 wanted to do something for me while she was still here to be part of it. I bought the two houses on this property in February 2013 and got to work. Casa Madre was finished in June and has proven to be a very popular rental.
Casita Juliet while on the same property has a wonderful sense of privacy. It is separated from Casa Madre by two over the top garden areas, a latilla fence and has it's own private parking area. It is named for my dear friend Juliet who once lived there and is my garden helper and housekeeper.
I love all five of my properties, but Casita Juliet is very special to me.
Melissa /Taos mgr. purchased this cottage in 2013
As I said earlier I do love buying old adobes, bringing them back to life and making improvements along the way.
I fell in love with this property long before I bought it. I was friends with the owner and a fellow yard sale fanatic. When it came up for sale in a foreclosure I told my mom about it and as they say, the rest is history.
Casita Juliet is a 1000 sq. ft. complete little house for one person, a couple (or three since the living room couch is big and I have bedding for it) The remodel was fairly gruesome since it entailed removing the roof and raising the ceilings. The original ceilings were only a little over 6' and I'm 5'11' myself. Now the rooms are open and inviting, cozy, but not crowded, decorated with my antiques, art and sense of whimsy throughout. I saved what was charming and unique and repaired or replaced what was just not right or did not appeal to me.
The kitchen is small, but well equipped. There is a separate eating area, and a utility room with a washer/dryer.
There are two delightful, private outdoor areas under portals for dining or just relaxing. AND this property is just, a five minute walk to the downtown Plaza through a nice, historic neighborhood.
I am a plant lover and in summer Casita Juliet is a garden wonderland with in ground plants and flowering pots everywhere. Even in winter you can enjoy all my indoor cactus and succulents in unique pots. No two alike and it's a container if it holds soil! Cowboy boot, oil can, saucepan, bucket...
Another advantage to Casita Juliet is that combined with the main house Casa Madre and the Bunk House (so much fun!) this property can be a family compound and sleep 12.
It is also fenced and pet friendly!
Please note: even if my calendar shows a reservation for your requested dates, contact me. I have six listings on Vrbo and manage another5 also on Vrbo. Everything from one and two bedroom apartments to one, two and three bedroom homes, condos and even family compounds. I can find a rental for you!!!
Hi Melissa, My family so enjoyed our stay in Taos. Casita Juliet has everything a small family needs--comfortable and nice and toasty upon our arrival late in the evening--a real treat for sure!
Casita Juliet was a perfect home base as we explored everything and no downtown parking hassles. You were right. We could walk everywhere. We'll be back for sure!
This review is long overdue, but I would be remiss if I didn't alert other travelers to the unbelievable charm and tranquility of Casita Juliet. My husband, our dog and I stayed for 3 nights in late May and we had a fabulous time. You can't beat the charm - beautiful artwork, super comfortable bed, and the location. It's perfect for walking into downtown Taos and yet removed enough that we were able to enjoy peaceful evenings. The kitchen is decked out with all the essentials and we enjoyed using the grill during our stay. I would highly recommend this property - Melissa is a fantastic hostess and her pride in ownership shines throughout this wonderful little casita. Thank you so much Melissa!
I can't say enough about how amazing this casita was! Beautiful decorations, comfortable bed, and the location was outstanding!! We had a great time and wished we had booked for another day. Thank you, Melissa for allowing us to stay in your adorable home :)
Just returned from a weekend getaway, staying in Casita Juliet. This property is fantastic for a single person or a couple. The pictures cannot possible show the unbelievable charm this place has! I stayed there 3 days and 2 nights with my dog, and we had a fabulous time. Quaint, private, safe and in walking distance of Guadalupe Plaza with many restaurants and shops. It was more than I was expecting, and I am definitely looking forward to staying there again someday! Melissa was great with my last-minute travel decision. Traveler Tip: the hot water in the shower is actually the "cold" handle ;-)
Casita Juliet is furnished with the most delightful art and artifacts. We discovered small artistic objects that made us smile or even laugh out loud everywhere we looked. We felt that we were in an enchanted cottage in a fairy tale. We would love to return and continue our adventure.
It was a beautifully quiet place with wonderful architectural and decorative charm. We highly recommend it. The only thing not high on our list was a $95 dollar cleaning fee as part of the rental cost. All in all, however, a really nice time.
My husband and I stayed in Casita Juliet for 4 days and enjoyed it very much. It is perfect for a couple and their dog. My husband was able to ski one day and the dog and I roamed the neighborhoods. We had one cold and blustery day but the electric baseboard heat kept the casita warm. We took advantage of the deck both for morning coffee and evening wine. The casita and yard is full of whimsical repurposed art. What a wonderful way to give new life to old printed circuit boards!!! My only regret is that we visited in the winter and I was not able to see Melissa's flower beds. They must be beautiful in the summer and fall.
Thanks for sharing your casita with us Melissa. It was a large part of our pleasant stay in Taos. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Casita Juliet to my friends.
Taos has something for everyone. In a small town of less than 6,000 residents we boast great restaurants, galleries, museums shopping, a myriad of outdoor activities and of course the Taos Pueblo--longest occupied settlement in North America)
