A home away from home in North Park, #13 on Forbes' list of the 'hippest' neighborhoods in the US. This 1926 historic Spanish villa ('Villa Barajas') combines old world charm with designer style and modern amenities.
This beautiful second floor suite exudes charm and has a private balcony overlooking an historic church. Step onto the balcony each morning and enjoy coffee or breakfast and some of the best weather in the country. There are windows on all four sides, making the space bright, airy and serene.
This suite is the latest to come on line in this building and is comparable to other suites in the villa that have been in service since July, 2013. Please see these listing numbers for other positive reviews of our guests: 471900, 422746, 471897.
This suite boasts a remodeled kitchen with high end fixtures, a vintage stove with griddle and stone counters. There's a bistro style dining area for four and a large living room with high ceiling, abundant windows and architectural details. An auto-inflating queen air mattress extending from the sofa ensures a soothing night's sleep.
The windowed bathroom is newly renovated -- a sexy, black & white space with a deep tub, large pivoting mirror and eye-catching details. The bath can be entered from two sides, making it easy to share and maintain privacy.
Heat/AC system, dishwasher, disposal and washer and dryer in the suite. Beautiful original hardwood floors and new furnishings. The look and feel is artful, modern and sensual. A joyful way to start your day and a thoroughly comfortable, quiet retreat at night.
We also provide amenities -- K-cup and French press coffee makers, beach towels, blow dryer, iron/ironing board, luggage rack, books and games, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, hand soaps, other essentials. WIFI and smart TV -- Stream Netflix and Pandora while you relax or enjoy a light meal in the suite. Or walk to nearby restaurants, pubs and cafes.
We have a 50mb WIFI network in the unit -- nice and fast -- and 4 other networks in the building, all of which are accessible to all guests, so it's pretty much bullet proof service if your unit's network happens to go down.
Spacious grounds with gas grill, ping pong table and delightful seating areas. Walk a few blocks to restaurants, cafes, bars, fitness, shops and Balboa Park and Florida Canyon -- pool, golf, tennis, hiking and running trails, bike track, bocce courts, picnic area, playground, athletic facilities. On the farther side of the park, still walking distance or a short ride are the San Diego Zoo, Old Globe Theatre and the museums. 5 minutes to downtown -- Little Italy, The GasLamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Convention Center and Petco Park. 10 min to beaches and other major attractions, including Coronado Island and Seaworld.
We love homes, vacations, people, and customer service. Making people happy in beautiful environments is our 'thing.'
Beth Galdieri purchased this villa in 2012
When we saw this building, with its old world charm, wonderful light and airy spaces, and felt its good energy -- we knew that we had to own it, restore it and then provide beautiful, comfortable and 'cool' accommodations where people could relax, enjoy the Park, the Zoo, the many restaurants - all within the context of a local San Diego Urban Walkable neighborhood experience. And we are 10 minutes away from fabulous beaches!
This building is thought to have been owned a century ago by a nearby church and resided in by church members or out of town visitors. It is a beautiful building and stands out as regal yet simple. This combination of simplicity and beauty attracted us. Additionally, we were inspired by a European vacation during which we enjoyed a series of very special boutique hotels that combined historic architecture, modern design, luxury amenities and excellent service. We wanted to capture and share a bit of that experience with others, in an economical format.
Review #11244132 “Amazing alternative to hotels”
Absolutely great value and service all the way around. The owners make checking in and out a breeze and are very attentive to any need you may have during your stay. This is an amazing alternative to 4 and 5 star hotels with all the comforts as if you were in your very own home. Walkable to the hip and happening area's of North Park. It just so happens that during my stay, a movie was being filmed at the intersection of Upas and 30th street and this great venue called "Underbelly". In addition to hip bars, restaurants and clubs all at your fingertips, one of the most amazing cafe's located on Upas is an absolute must called Cardamom which is owned by a lovely women who bakes every single delicious pastry, muffin, cookies and in addition serves breakfast and lunch and is just so part of the neighborhood feel you get when you stay at this property.
Close proximity to all major freeway's, beaches and attractions. I simply can not say enough bout this very well run and managed property offering a vacation alternative to your hum drum stay's at any major brand name hotel.
We were staying in San Diego for a family event and by far, this place was a highlight of the trip.
Well appointed, safe neighborhood and parking; close to restaurants and the park; i would highly recommend staying here. The owners and property manager were very respnsive to our questions. Overall, a 5-star place!
Our stay in San Diego was enhanced by the nice condo in a neighborhood setting. It was easy to walk up town to explore North Park and find nice eateries. The parking in San Diego is challenging but the 5 dedicated parking spots in the back alley was a bonus and made parking no worry. The kitchen and appliances were modern and having the laundry setup was a real benefit when you are packing light. The only thing I would suggest is a digital clock in the bedroom that can be easily viewed early in the AM since we had a very early flight. Had to keep finding my watch to know the time.
Beth, Gail, and Matthew provided excellent customer service and attended any needs in a prompt manner. Should we visit San Diego again, we will not hesitate to contact them for future accommodations. Thanks!!
The Villa Barajas apartment itself was lovely. The location is great and the availability of off-street parking was very valuable. However, we missed some of the amenities that we have come to expect from previous VRBO places. We have never stayed in a place where there was so little in the kitchen to help us settle in. It would have been especially nice to have a couple of Keurig canisters there, especially since we did not have a chance to do any grocery shopping before our first night. We would have also appreciated a list of local grocery stores and restaurants. Many VRBO sites have a binder with brochures and menus from local eateries. There was also an issue with the front porch light. It took two calls to get it fixed; then we found that it would only work while the stairwell light was on. Then that light also went out. This made opening the lockbox in the evenings more than a little challenging.
We were impressed. Property manager was very attentive, prompt and was ready for anything we requested. So our first impression was great and we haven't even seen the place yet. We arrive and immediately snd know we don't want to leave. Everything about the place was well thought out, organized, and clean. Everything you need or want is there. If there is anything you request they well do their best to get it asap. Location is close enough to a wide variety of restaurants, parks, breweries, and attractions you can walk to. We loved it, we will be back. We actually took a couple of photos for a home remodel idea. It is very nice.
We spent a week in this wonderful condo, enjoying our first vacation as empty nesters. The condo was well equipped and beautifully decorated; loved the vintage oven in the kitchen! The bed is extremely comfortable with high quality linens. We loved sitting on the little balcony every morning, enjoying a cup of coffee and watching passers-by. Location is ideal - a short, two block walk to a little restaurant called "Cardamom Cafe" for a great breakfast or to the Underbelly for a great lunch and lots of local brew on-tap. We even walked to Balboa Park and the zoo. Can't recommend this place high enough if you're looking for a relaxing getaway in San Diego!
We stayed here with our almost 2 year old toddler and had a great time. The unit was beautiful, probably the nicest we have ever stayed in using VRBO. We requested a high chair and pack and play and these were provided at no extra charge, we were very appreciative of this. Note that the unit we requested is a 2nd floor unit, so there is a flight of stairs from the locked front door entrance to enter the unit. There is a door that closes off the stairs from the living room area, but it does not lock or stay closed, so we simply placed a chair against it to keep it closed off for our child's safety. One thing to note is that there is not enough room in the bedroom for a pack & play or other smaller type of travel crib (we actually brought our baby bjorn travel crib as well), so we opted set up the crib in the living room and closed it off for the night. The flow is great, once the living room was closed off we still had access to bathroom and kitchen from the bedroom.
We did not take advantage of grilling or the back patio very much, as it was a very hot weekend. We brought groceries and mostly cooked in. We also did walk to the San Diego Zoo with the stroller - but note this is not a gentle little stroll. The most direct way takes a little over 30 minutes and takes you through a fairly steep ravine type area in which there is no sidewalk. This can be avoided by a short detour to stay on level ground though.
Located minutes to The World Famous San Diego Zoo, Downtown San Diego and the Convention Center, Balboa Park with its Hiking Trails, Olympic Size Pool, Tennis Courts, Disc Golf Course, Archery Course, 3 Dog Parks, and a 10 minutes drive to San Diego Beaches. |Property Damage Protection||£48|

Rates in table are representative and may vary based on number of occupants and specific dates requested. Rates and minimum stays during holidays and special events, such as Comic-Con, are typically higher. San Diego requires that occupancy taxes be charged for stays of fewer than 31 nights (10.5%). Cleaning fee, insurance and refundable security deposit are additional. Rates are subject to change until reservation has been confirmed.
For stays of one month or more, we charge for bi-weekly cleaning, in addition to a final cleaning fee. This will not be auto-generated via a reservation request -- We will need to revise the quote to include the biweekly cleanings.
Many people ask about this: We include a third party damage protection policy in our quotes, which is a nonrefundable fee. The policy protects you and us. With the policy in place, we're able to charge a very low cash security deposit that covers minor damages (such as stained towels or linens or broken plates). The insurance policy covers more significant accidental damages (for example, to furniture, floors, appliances, counters, walls, mirrors, plumbing fixtures, lamps, window glass and coverings, other elements). The insurance also enables you to recover your security deposit in the event of a qualified incident. VRBO offers you the option of either purchasing the insurance policy we've quoted or paying an additional refundable security deposit equal to the coverage/face value of the policy. For example, suppose we are charging $250 refundable security and you opt NOT to purchase the insurance (which in this example has a coverage value of $1,500) -- Your new combined REFUNDABLE security deposit would be $250 + $1500 = $1,750. Please note that the price of the insurance policy and the coverage amount are subject to change.
