The annex has one bedroom, bathroom with shower over, kitchen / living room and is idea for a couple taking a break away from it all. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils making it an ideal 'home from home' - previous guests have commented on the kitchen facilities. The holiday accommodation adjoins the owners property and sits in a 2 acre smallholding. We have chickens, goats and bees, plus grow vegetables and fruit. The property sits in a wooded valley with the river Gwendraeth Fach fronting the land. Originally a pump house, built by the MOD in 1939 to pump water down to an ammunition factory at Pembrey, it was bought and completely renovated by developers in 2007 in a contemporary modern style. We bought the property in 2009, and have spent our time organising the land into formal gardens near the house, putting in out buildings and outside lighting, paths and seating areas for our guests to enjoy the wonderful outside ambiance. The historic town of Kidwelly is close by and visitors can enjoy exploring the Norman castle and Industrial Museum.
Kidwelly area: The Kidwelly area offers many attractions. Kidwelly itself has a medieval castle and old priory church in the centre of the town, whilst the industrial museum is just outside at Mynddygarreg. The yearly carnival is held in July, whilst the castle offers medieval attractions throughout the summer. For the walkers there are a number of walks around Kidwelly, plus the Millenium coastal path.
Not far from Kidwelly is Pembrey Country Park and Ffos Las Racecourse all offering a variety of activities throughout the year.
The Royal Botanical Gardens and Aberglasney house and gardens are both short drives away.
Other attractions within an hours drive include Dylan Thomas' boathouse at Laugharne; National Wetlands Centre at Llanelli; Narberth and Carmarthen towns are also worth a visit.
Carmarthenshire: Carmarthenshire is known as 'the garden of Wales'. It has lush rural landscapes, beautiful coastlines and interesting towns. The area is steeped in history and mythology. It has so many places to visit and things to do you will want to come back for more.
From the Pumphouse: We have seen Buzzards, Dippers and Kingfishers on a regular basis from the Pumphouse grounds, plus the occasional Red Kite.
We own around 150 yards of river frontage and fishermen can therefore enjoy the fishing rights (subject to individual license) that comes with the property. Sea fishing is also good locally.
Otters have been seen in the river.
