Welsh cottages and farm houses can be attractive but often a bit on the chilly side ! The estate on which the house is situated is very quiet and extremely safe its local nick-name is 'The Bank Managers Estate' need I say more ! (most residents are fifty plus or retired) a peaceful nights sleep is assured. It is a delight to sit out on a nice day (summer or winter) in the rear garden and just admire the ever changing view, it sure makes a change from bricks and morter if you are a 'townie', If you have more than one car, two can be parked on the drive, a further parking area to the side of the drive / hedge it is large enough to park a large camper or a number of cars

If you wish I can even arrange for you to have a day out with a local falconer to go 'live' hunting

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS-You name it ! Castles, Mines (lead, slate, and copper). Zoo

Beaches,Walled Town (Conwy) with very nice river front area and marina, you can also walk the town walls. 'Victorian' Llandudno The Queen of Welsh Resorts (best sea side town 2015 in U.K.) makes for a great day out, full range of ALL TOP HIGH STREET SHOPS and Supermarkets, plus Designer and Boutique shopping, Pubs, Clubs, and Resturants, do not forget the Copper mine, and a pint / lunch in the Ski Slope bar, you can drive to the ski slope bar /car park but ask a 'local' it is hard to find The area caters for most needs, there is even a Dr Who museum at Llangollen.

CURRY-The Balti House ( Llanrwst is the Best in Nth Wales -- LATEST NEWS-- May 2015 Voted NUMBER ONE !The best in Wales.

LLANRWST The town has a full range of shops and a large supermarket, there are numerous Pubs, a Night Club, Welsh,Thai and Indian restaurants / takeaway (Indian highly recommended) Fish and Chip shops, (the chip shop in the town center has a upstairs restaurnt and is highly recommended). Pizza, Kebab and Chinese Takeaways. Health food shop and highly specialised Deli's and wine shop. CYCLISTS - There is a very good bike shop in the town for repairs and sales.

STEAM TRAIN ENTHUSIASTS - The famous Blaenau Ffestiniog - Portmadog Steam railway now links with the West Highland railway to make a great day out, further afield (50 mins by car) there is another famous STEAM RAILWAY the Llangollen railway with full size engines. Betws - Y - Coed has a narrow guage railway and is well worth a look, the children (and big children) will love it. Last but not least do not forget the railway to the top of Snowdon.

Llanrwst -The town itself has five cafe there is a bistro cafe on the square, the pubs are varied and sell locally brewed 'real' ale and all other beers, largers, wine and spirits, but do not sell food (all proper pubs). There is also a re-furbished LLanrwst Club for a cheap pint (non members welcome) There is a lovely riverside walk down some steps near the bridge, walk to the end then across the carpark then back through the town, there are ancient alms houses and a very famous church St Grwsts to find and explore, plus much more. Last but not least Gwydir Castle over the bridge first left at the end (0.3 mile) then 100 yds L.H.Side it may look closed go through small door in gate and 'follow your nose' you are in for a big surprise ! The owners seem to keep the place unadvertised I do not know why it is a 'gold mine' if marketed well,

Betws-Y-Coed (4 miles) is a fine destination, it is a picturesque village with riverside setting, ancient bridge, a typical welsh stone and slate village but with a full range of shops, hotel restaurants etc

Portmeirion (20miles) 'The Prisoner' T.V. Series was filmed here with Patrick Mc Goohan, a 'must see'

Beddgelert (15 miles) is a beautiful village in the heart of Snowdonia, it is a the meeting place of two rivers and a great place for a walk see if you can find 'Gellerts' grave. It has all you need for a full day including restaurants / pubs for lunch and tea rooms etc

Llandudno (15 miles) Queen of the Welsh Resorts has everything you need for a full and comprehensive day out. Too much to list but here are a few.All high street stores and banks, beaches, tramway to the top of the Great Orme, good pubs, cafe's and restaurants the chip shop next to the NationWide Building Society is well worth a visit

Shell Island (40 miles) makes for a wonderful 'fresh air' day out. Mile upon mile of sandy beach sand dunes and fields dogs can run free on the beaches. Information on the table

WET WEATHER DAYS-The slate mine at Blenau Ffestiniog (14 miles) makes for a wonderful experience, as soon as you decend on the narrow track railway you understand how dangerous it was all those years ago. Be prepared for a 'eye opener' of a day, just before Ffestiniog as you go down the hill on the left hand side The copper mine at Llandudno (15 miles) was only discovered some twenty years ago and is still being excavated but it is unique and well worth a visit It seems hard to believe that traders sailed in open boats from the Mediterranean a thousand plus years ago to buy copper from the Great Orm Llandudno, it was the largest copper mine in the known world.

There is also a slate mine near Bedgelet, (15 miles) 2 miles before the village on the left hand side. info on table.

Great accommodations for the whole family

  • 5 of 5

The property was very good, everything we needed for 6 was there. Len was very helpful for our arrival since we were late. Nearby attractions ( castles) , kept us busy and we had a very relaxing place at the end of the day. Recommend this place to anyone's looking for a relaxing and spacious home.

6 people, 3 generations and a little dog

  • 4 of 5

First time in Wales and really enjoyed our stay. Close to all North Wales has to offer, including the lovely town of Llanrwst with local shops restaurants and welcoming public houses. The booking process was easy and Len most helpful, and we hope to come to Wales again in the near future.

Pet Friendly Snowdonia Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Great place close to lots of amazing outdoor adventures. Cute town.

House is as advertised. Great spot for 7 of us (4 adults, 3 kids) plus two dogs to use for all Snowdonia has to offer.

Len (the owner) is very receptive and helpful. He even had a great recommendation for us when our tyre was flat after a long road trip to Wales.

We would definitely stay there again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review, I thought me waiting up to see you in at 11.45 p.m. and seeing you off at 7.30 a.m. might have got a mention, but the tyre garage is very good. Hope to see you again if you visit the area again. Regards Len and Jan.

Central location in Northern Wales

  • 3 of 5

The location of this house is great. It is within walking distance to the town and driving distance to many attractions in northern Wales. The host, Len, was very responsive and gave great recommendations and directions.

We were a large group and managed with the one shower (but 3 bathrooms); Len is planning to put in another shower this fall which will be helpful for other larger groups in the future.

We are grateful the carpets had been cleaned but as a result there was a strong residual odor. We would have preferred other flooring than carpet in the bathrooms and kitchen. The living room furniture is tired but the beds are comfy.

Owner's Response: There is not any carpet in the kitchen, it is a Rhino Kitchen Floor covering, two out of three bathrooms have a carpet tile flooring, and whats wrong with nice warm carpet in the master bathroom ? How can a £3000 oak framed "Erco" three piece suite be "tired" it must be you are not used to a tapestry type cover and it may have looked faded, it is not that is how it is new ! The odor from the washed carpets did clear in a day or two, I will change the type of carpet cleaner used from "Summer Fresh" to another brand, I clearly state there is one shower, and one bath, how can you comment about something which is clearly not supplied. As you are from Texas you have clearly never walked on a freezing tiled floor in a kitchen or bathroom in the winter, if you had you would know why we in the U.K.often use a floor covering. Regards Len and Jan Lloyd.

Comfortable home in a lovely little village

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Len and Jan's home in Llanrwst for two months starting in November 2014 and had an absolutely brilliant time. The house had everything we needed and plenty of space for our family with three kids. We were even able to receive some family visitors with space to spare—the house really opened up nicely and we were comfortable throughout.

The property is impossible to describe with the Gwydir forest, Conwy River, and the Snowdonia mountains, all looming just outside the backyard. Closer to the back fence, the daily meandering of sheep, bleating and munching grass (rain or shine), was incredibly peaceful. The grey weather outside never affected us indoors, as the central heat and little fireplace in the living room were more than enough to keep the cold away.

Day trips to Llandudno, Conwy, Betws-y-Coed, Porthmadog, Bangor, and Caernarfon are all extremely easy from the property. Even a nice walk to Betws-y-Coed (about 4 miles) or Trefriw (about 2 miles) is easy from this well-positioned property. And even in two months without a car, we barely scratched the surface of the amazing, gorgeous walks in the North Wales area.

As for Len and Jan, they were incredibly accommodating for our family. From bringing their welsh spaniel to come play with my young children to finding a coffee pot for us Americans accustomed to morning coffee to giving us a ride to the train station when it was time for us to leave, they met every need and then some. We couldn't have asked for better hosts.

It's off the beaten path, but you couldn't do better than spending some time in this peaceful, lovely area. And this is the house in which to do it—you just might love it as much as we did!

Lovely, Quiet, Spacious Home in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

This large home in Llanrwst was perfect for our visit to Snowdonia and

Northern Wales. Our hosts Jan and Len were friendly, helpful, and easy

to work with. Emailing information was simple and much appreciated.

The home has a lovely large kitchen and a spacious living area. Nice

bedrooms and bathrooms upstairs. Plenty of closet space. Big back yard. Great location for exploring the area and Snowdonia National Park. Easy walk into Llanrwst and pubs, restaurants, and the computers to check email at the library. The nearby Trefriw Woolen Mills with its lovely large shop, museum, and inexpensive café is a real treat. Castles at Conwy and Caernarfon are amazing, as is the drive from Betws-y-Coed

to Llanberis - beautiful scenery! The Honey Shop at Llanberis is delightful. From Llanberis we drove on to Caernarfon, Criccieth, Porthmadog, Blaenau Ffestiniog, and back to Betws-y-Coed, and back home to llanwrst - a wonderful drive. Friendly people everywhere. This home is a bargain! Thanks Jan and Len! Andy and Ann from San Antonio, Texas, USA

SEE - for a good insight of Llanrwst.

An easy walk takes you to historic Llanrwst, with Swimming,Climbing etc at the Leisure Center, with good pubs, (with local brewed ale), restaurants take-aways and shops/supermarket. Enjoy a riverside walk, or explore nearby Gwydir Castle.Gwydir Forest has - Cycle tracts, lake, and graded walks. 'Victorian' Llandudno with good beach and shops is 12 miles away. Picturesque Betws y Coed with miniature railway, car museum, and a wide variety of shops pubs restaurants and ice-cream parlours (4miles). Further along the A5 through Capel Curig is Snowdonia National Park, and the the towering splendour of Wales' highest mountain - Snowdon. ZIP WIRE Highest / Fastest in Northern Hemisphere, Go Underground Trampoline, Tree Tops Climbing Adventure Course (3mls).Canoeing and climbing at Capel Curig (12mls).STEAM TRAINS run from Bleanau Ffestinog to Porthmadog (18 mls). All places can be reached by bus / train from Llanrwst. The Island of Anglesey and the historic castles of Conwy, Harlech, and Caernarfon are all close by. Further afield, best by car, are the Citys of Chester, Liverpool, and Manchester (easy day trip), and Blackpool with it amazing 'lights' ( in November ) and brilliant funfair

DOG OWNERS / WALKERS- There are miles and miles of well marked paths in the Gwydir Forest which is a matter of a few minutes drive from the house, you can park your car in a well designed and safe car park and 'get lost' for hours, see if you can get as far as the lakes ! There are also many other areas inland, and beaches to explore with your canine friend and a very nice river side walk in Llanrwst .Or you can give them a good run in the local Gwydir park, five minutes walk from the house towards the town left over the bridge then on the left hand side. It might be wise to invest in an O S. map as there are footpaths everywhere and most are well marked, plan a day before you arrive. There is also a very nice stone 'beach' just up - river from the Gwydir Park, great for dog swimming, and some fields further on to dry it out. The rental rate includes one well behaved dog, most dogs are accepted if you have any further questions, please ask.- SNOWDON- The ultimate walk ! Park the car in the car park at the foot of Snowdon and off you go, you will be best to reserch your route 'on line' before you go, but please no flip - flops, shorts and tee shirts. It can be summer in the car park and winter at the summit ! Do not forget if you get a bit tired you can always come down on the train (check to make sure it is running, it is tourist related). It is a serious mountain boots/stout shoes, (trainers if you must ) proper clothes, telephone and torch.

DOG WALKING - Like to walk the dog and left 'Fido' behind, we have just aquired a Welsh Collie/Springer Spaniel, borrow her anytime.

INDIAN FOOD - JAN 2013 - The Balti House Llanrwst has been awarded FIRST in Nth Wales and SIXTH in WALES out of 30.000 ! BEST CURRY HOUSE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO.

REAL ALE - All the local Llanrwst pubs sell local brewed beer, there are many other towns / villages where you can sample a fine pint of ale in the area. There is also a pub in Conwy which re-opened last month (Feb 2012) which is owned now by three local berweries (one being the local Llanrwst berwery) but I can not remember the name of it, but there are only about six pubs in Conwy just about right to find out what the name is ! Let me know.

CINEMA -There is a 'MultiPlex' at Llandudno Junction (12 miles)

NIGHTLIFE- Llanrwst has Pubs, Nightclub, Resturants, Cafe's, Takeaways, ect. There are also many other places to go in the surrounding area

DRIVING ENTHUSIASTS - There are 4x4 courses, quad bikes, off / on road buggies, race track, and a go-cart race track in the area. See further down the website for full details

CYCLISTS - See below

BIRD WATCHERS - R.S.P.B. Bird reserve (12 miles) a wonderful location set against the Conwy Estuary, with the scenic backdrop of Conwy Castle and the mountains of Snowdonia. The amenities are first class with a newly built observation area and various hides and good parking. For lunch, tea, ect there is nearby (0.5mile) Llandudno Junction Cinema Complex with Piza Hut, McDonalds, and a Tesco Superstore with Cafe

GOLFERS - There is a delightfull nine hole course at BetwsYCoed (3 miles) also eighteen hole courses at nearby Ruhddlan (18 miles), Prestatyn (20 miles), Llandudno (14 miles good long driving greens) Rhyl (18 miles, rather flat on the coast) Abergele (15 miles), and Penrhyn Bay (12 miles very flat 'flood plain') all the other ones are a bit more challaging, and all accept day members

FISHERMEN - River, fly fishing, lake, and sea is all available, please ask I will try to find out the best places for you to go (license/permission may be required)
