About Mr and Mrs Graham

We are a family of five who having enjoyed many French holidays with family and friends, decided in 2004 to buy a holiday home we could share with others. The property needed extensive renovation and now offers a pool, large garden, comfortable and spacious accommodation and everything we feel is important to make for the perfect holiday retreat.

Why Mr and Mrs Graham chose Dignac

We know and have loved the Charente for many years. Our hamlet is one of the highest points in the Charente, so the air is clear and views over surrounding woodlands are lovely.

The property is an old stone farmhouse with two barns and not only offers abounding space but also lots of character.

Outside. A large south facing, partly walled, stone patio at the back of the house leads out onto the private outdoor pool(10x5x1.8m with diving board) open May - September, pool loungers, parasols, a small iron bistro table and chairs and spacious grounds with fruit trees and lovely views over fields and woodland. Full size pétanque (French boules) area. Also available; gas BBQ, table tennis, 5 adult bicycles, two man hammock, various games and pool toys. There is outside parking for up to 5 vehicles and a large un-renovated, attached barn offering secure parking for one or two cars and for storage. Although advertised as a whole, there is the option to hire either only the house (sleeps max 9) or the barn (sleeps max 6). Please contact us to discuss.

Magnifique maison

Nous étions 12 adultes à venir partager un week-end entre amis. La maison est superbe , très agréable à vivre , très propre. Les pièces sont spacieuses et très bien aménagées. Je recommande cette maison. Le mauvais temps ne nous a pas permis de profiter du jardin. Une prochaine fois sûrement...

2 weeks of paradise

10 family members stayed for 2 weeks in this amazing house. Sunshine every day, wonderful surroundings and a well equipped house. Highlights included the pool and diving board, the grounds and boules pitch, the well equipped kitchen, the large barn lounge and each of the large bedrooms with a plentiful supply of bathrooms too. We visited numerous nearby chateaus, Brantome, Angouleme and had a great canoe trip on a local river. The real pleasure of the holiday had to be the peace and quiet and chilled out surroundings, giving us a great chance to unwind.

Relaxing Retreat

This is a beautiful and spacious property which has been lovingly restored, retaining many of its original features. It is spacious and well equipped and maintained to a high standard. There were 11 of us staying in the main house and converted barn (5 adults, 6 kids). The majority of the children were young adults (13+) and even though the house is in quite a remote location they loved it. There is so much to do at the property. The pool and pool area are beautiful, with plenty of activities to keep all ages occupied. We all loved the spacious grounds (plenty of hide and seek and frizzbee) and in the warm summer evenings we all enjoyed boules and table tennis. There is also a lovely patio area where we could all eat together. The garden is beautiful and we had the pleasure of the company of bees who enjoyed the lavender which was in bloom at our stay. The house is a treasure trove of art and personalisation with plenty of family games to choose from. We ventured out to Angouleme which was wonderful for shopping, eating and architecture and to a few local restaurants. There are large supermarkets nearby and the Boulangerie in Dignac is amazing, fresh bread and cakes galore! We had fun on the kayaks in Angouleme and would recommend a trip down the river. Antonia was an amazing host, thank you for letting us stay at your beautiful property. It really did feel like we were at a retreat for our 2 weeks of heaven.

Great holiday in Dignac

We spent a very nice week in this house. Our group of 8 adults and 5 kids could perfectly fit in the spacious rooms and all the bathrooms allowed to have enough independence. While the weather was mitigated, we took every opportunity to play in the swimming pool, eat outside on the big terrace, and play "petanque" in the garden. The house is well equipped, with also plenty of games for the kids, and you can feel this is not a museum but a house that lives- exactly what we look for.

The contact with Antonia Graham was always excellent, and this was very much appreciated.

We definitely recommend this house!

A terrific property in a quiet rural setting - worked very well for our 'expanded' family with children in their 20's, boyfriends and elderly mother. Would also be great for young children - lots of space outside - but you would need to keep an eye on pool which is deep. Highly recommended. Antonia is an excellent owner/landlady - quick to reply to emails and very much on top of things. Thank you for a great holiday.

Un séjour très agréable

Le gîte est accueillant, au calme, très propre. Superbe vue sur la campagne.

Nous avons bénéficié d'un temps magnifique, et nous avons donc profité au maximum de la terrasse et de la piscine.

A recommander sûrement pour des familles (certaines chambres ont plusieurs lits).

Un bémol, car nous étions 6 couples : la 6e chambre est en mezzanine et non fermée (pas d'intimité). Nous ne l'avions pas réalisé en réservant.

Trois éléments de cuisine manquent vraiment : un micro-ondes, un auto-cuiseur et une cafetière électrique classique (la cafetière italienne, c'est sympa, mais tout le monde n'apprécie pas !).

Ce serait bien d'ajouter les coordonnées GPS de ce gîte (calculées par mon Mari) :

Nous avons fait appel à Jérémy pour la piscine ; contact sympathique et efficace.

Nous avons rencontré Christelle le jour de notre départ ; personne charmante, et aussi très efficace, car le gîte est bien entretenu !

Owner's Response: Nous prenons note d'équipement de la cuisine et la chambre en mezzanine, nous apprécions beaucoup les commentaires de nos invités. Nous avons eu 6 cafetières brisées au cours des 4 dernières années, nous avons donc été conseillé de changer à l'italienne ... peut-être que nous devrions revoir! Il n'y a pas micro-ondes, cela est indiqué sur les détails de la cuisine, sinon nous croyons que la grande cuisine est très bien équipée. Nous passerons en revue les informations de la chambre en mezzanine. D'après notre expérience de la location, «mezzanine» signifie souvent sans sécurité / ouverte / chambre balcon comme type. Nous nous excusons si cela n'a pas été bien décrite. Comme toujours, nous accueillons les invités à communiquer avec nous leurs préoccupations. S'il vous plaît noter que la chamber en mezzanine est une grande pièce au sommet de la maison ouverte sur un côté avec une balustrade et escalier d'un couloir, ouvert ci-dessous. Il est idéal pour les jeunes/adolescents. Merci bien aussi pour les coordonnées GPS!

The property is situated in a small, peaceful hamlet, in the Foret de l’Horte et Tardoire. There are local shops including a small supermarket, bakery, chemist, restaurant/bar and free tennis courts at Dignac (5km). The 10th century chateau of Villebois Lavalette with its ancient covered market and the border of Dordogne are only 12km away. Historic Angoulême, “cartoon city”, offers a variety of lively restaurants and shops, cobbled streets, cathedral, museums and the stunning Charente river and large lake for water sports (20km). Aubeterre, with a beach on the River Dronne and a monolithic church, is considered one of the prettiest villages in France (50km). Take a day trip to the coast of Royan with its sandy beaches or visit the famous vineyards of Bordeaux and Cognac, as well as Futuroscope Theme Park near Poitiers.

Bookings run from Saturday 4pm to Saturday 10am. The price of the rent includes oil, gas, electric and water consumption, bed linen, bath towels (not pool/beach towels) as well as the house-cleaning and pool maintenance. Winter and Spring short stays of a minimum of two nights do not include bed linen. If required there is an additional charge of 20 euros per guest.
