Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath, Maximum guest party of 4

No pet fees! Low cleaning fee! Central Air Conditioning! You want to get away from it all? Look no further for the right property to visit! The Dog House is a dog-friendly 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home (maximum of 4 human guests, regardless of age) with a large wrap-around deck and a fenced in yard (4' chain link). You will see and enjoy the views from the deck - beautiful trees and ridges to see and the sky is usually amazing as well.

You'll have wifi, Directv, comfortable furniture, and plenty of space!

We are just 1/2 mile from the East Verde River if you want to go and play in the cool water. Otherwise, there are plenty of hiking trails around and the national forest right out our back yard! You won't see your neighbors, except the wildlife.

The house has a large great room complete with comfy furniture, and windows galore! The room is overlooked by the loft, which we've set up to use as a reading nook or game room. We've assembled a fairly good collection of board games to enjoy on a rainy afternoon or cold winter's night.

The kitchen is complete with all appliances, including coffee maker, microwave and dishwasher. We've stocked some basic spices as well as coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Wildlife sightings so far: bobcat, elk, white tail deer, raccoons, coyotes, rabbit. We've seen bear prints, but no bear yet!

We are licensed by and pay taxes to the State of Arizona for this business. We also donate 5% of our gross income to a local animal shelter.

Please note: there are three steps from the living room to the rest of the house, and five steps from the back yard or front yard to the deck/front door. This may be difficult for senior pets or pets with walking problems. We added a ramp from the master bedroom to the back porch to provide older pets an alternative to stairs. Fireplace in living room is decorative only.

About Dena Pierre

After vacationing with our dogs in several VRBO homes over the last 11 years, we decided it was time to purchase our own vacation home! We searched for over a year for the perfect vacation setting in Payson, Arizona. We live in Scottsdale and love to travel to the Payson area and up into rim country. We moved to Arizona from Ohio (with a couple of stops in Florida and Oregon as well!) and although we miss Ohio State University, we enjoy the state of Arizona and all it has to offer. The diversity is amazing. We have been using VRBO as guests for the last 5 years, so we like to think we know a thing or two about what our guests might want. That's why it was such a hard search for this home. We are huge pet lovers - Tom is a pet photographer in fact. We never travel if we can't take our pets, so that's why our focus on dog-friendly accommodations.

Dena Pierre purchased this house in 2013

Why Dena Pierre chose Arizona

This property is private and has a beautiful deck you can sit and enjoy the cool breezes and wildlife from! And with this home you don't have to rough it - it has all the amenities as you would expect, so you'll be comfortable enough to relax.

What makes this house unique

This lot is as near perfect as we could get! It backs to the Tonto National Forest and the other sides of the home are well protected from the trees and space so you can forget there are other people living nearby!

Guestbook comments from the owner

From our Facebook page: "What a lovely place! Serene, peaceful and relaxing. Lots of opportunity for seeing wildlife. Our dog loved the house and yard. The house is immaculate and has everything you could want. Just wish it wasn't booked up the rest of the summer. Would love to go back!"

Wonderful Wintery Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The house and property are just as described. No surprises- the house is spacious, clean , well stocked and perfectly canine friendly. The owners' communications were always fast and clear. We had a big winter storm arrive during our check in time and they made sure to tell us about weather conditions, alternate routes and had everything ready for us when we arrived. It is obvious that the owners care about the renters and want them to have a good experience. We loved being able to spend such a relaxing holiday with our dogs. I would recommend this getaway to anybody - thank you for a perfect Christmas!

Perfect secluded mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a well cared for, clean, and well thought out vacation home. We had a terrific, relaxing time. The owners have thought of nearly everything needed for an inclusive stay. Our dog enjoyed exploring all of the new smells in the backyard and surrounding area. We had a terrific time and look forward to a return trip to The Payson Dog House.

Peace, solitude, privacy...and some very happy dogs!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted a mellow, do-nothing vacation where we could get out of the city and enjoy nature with our dogs. As good as this listing looks, it's even better in real life! The house is gorgeous and comfortable, with every amenity you can ask for. The owners are responsive yet unobtrusive. While the property is situated in a little neighborhood, the house feels very private and secluded. For us city dwellers, it felt like a bit of a haul to drive to the town proper each day from the Dog House, but we never got tired of the views along Houston Mesa Road. The best part of the vacation was letting my dogs be free to explore and run around freely - something they don't get to do very often in Los Angeles. They even made friends with some local dogs that came by to say hello. We loved everything about Whispering Pines and the Dog House. We will definitely be back!

Better than expected!

  • 5 of 5

Wife and I and our two dogs enjoyed a long weekend celebrating our anniversary. The cabin's floor plan, decorating, and cleanliness was all great, the dogs enjoyed the deck and the fenced in yard, the seclusion is great with not being too far away from Payson. The nearby river crossings were great for morning walks with dogs. No complaints, we would go back again.
