Large 5 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath House With Large Porch. Great Family Gathering Spot!

Outstanding house: The Captain Henry Stevenson house has been completely and thoughtfully renovated for a perfect Island getaway. Our guests enjoy expansive waterviews of Vineyard Haven harbor from all rooms. The home has a new kitchen, with spacious cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances (gas stove), a new kitchen pantry addition added in 2018, 2 flat screen TVs and central air. In addition to the new pantry, a new half bath was added on the first floor in 2018.

The house also has two staircases, a separate pantry and bar, an office and a beautifully decorated living room with a large flat screen TV over the fireplace. The dining room, adjacent to the pantry and bar, has a table that seats 8 people. A second gateleg table is provided in the dining room and can seat an additional 8 for your large dinner party.

The 40 foot long back porch overlooks the harbor and quickly becomes the focal point for relaxing with family and friends over a cup of coffee or evening beverage. The porch provides many fun opportunities for outdoor relaxation and dining (table seats 10). The porch also has a stainless steel grill, swing, and lots of additional seating and lounging.

The house has 5 large bedrooms, 3 of which have King-sized beds. All of the bedrooms are on the second floor, as are the two full baths which have been completely renovated with Carrera marble and gleaming glass frameless enclosures. The walk out basement has plenty of space to store bikes and beach toys, and a large laundry room with washer and dryer.

Other amenities: The spacious outdoor shower is great for a quick rinse-off after returning from the beach, which is down the street; central air, with separate first and second floor controls; hardwood floors; fenced yard; cable TV (Infinity); wireless internet; and DVD player.

The property has a parking area that will accommodate up to 5 vehicles. The Vineyard Haven library is across the street, and has a good selection . For golfers, Mink Meadows Golf Course is just up the road and is open for public play.The Vineyard Haven Yacht Club is only a few blocks away, offering an adjacent public sandy beach within walking distance of the house.

Beautiful rental in Vineyard Haven

This rental was every that was promised. The house is a beautiful island home in the heart of Vineyard Haven. The house is within walking distance to the town. There are wonderful galleries, restaurants, clothing stores and shops to explore in town. The house is comfortable, charming, and beautifully decorated. The beds are comfortable and the bedrooms are spacious. The kitchen is well equipped with cooking apparatus and serving ware. All the necessary appliances needed to cook wonderful meals are available. The best part of the house is the beautiful porch that overlooks the harbor. The swing on the porch brought back many wonderful memories of our childhoods. It is a very relaxing space to read, nap, have conversations, and just relax. Nancy and Jerry were extremely helpful with information about places to eat, sight to see, and things that were fun to do on the island. I would recommend this rental to anyone wanting to visit Martha's Vineyard!

Perfect Location for Exploring Martha's Vineyard

We recently stayed at this rental for our first visit to Martha's Vineyard. What a wonderful location! As stated, it is within walking distance to all of the unique shops and restaurants of Vineyard Haven. The charming house is beautifully decorated, the rooms are spacious, and the house is well maintained. Our favorite spot was the back porch where we spent numerous hours relaxing and enjoying the view of the harbor. Perfect for morning breakfast, reading, enjoying a cocktail, or a lobster bake in the evening. Since this was our first time on Martha's Vineyard, Nancy was a wealth of information on restaurants, grocery stores, sightseeing and things not to miss on the Vineyard! Having a place to park the car was especially important as parking is limited and it was nice to be able to take our car and explore the rest of the island. We would definitely recommend this property for your visit to Martha's Vineyard. It's a wonderful place to stay!!

We are attorneys who live most of the year in New Albany, Ohio and have vacationed on Martha's Vineyard regularly since 1980. We have travelled many places, but believe Martha's Vineyard is one of the best places on earth!

We purchased our home in Vineyard Haven in 2008 as a gathering place for our extended family. We love it and hope your family will as well.

Why Nancy Ferguson chose Vineyard Haven

The house is one block from the beach and 2 blocks from downtown Vineyard Haven. Vineyard Haven has great shopping, restaurants, and proximity to the ferry and island-wide bus service. It is home to the island's best bookstore, home decor stores, galleries, coffee shops, public tennis courts and 4 theaters! Unlike the other towns on Martha's Vineyard, most of the Vineyard Haven stores and restaurants remain open in the off-season.

This is the eleventh year that we have made this home available to the rental market. During those years, we have had only one open week, we have never deducted any amount from a rental deposit, and we have had many, many repeat renters. Many re-book for the following year at the conclusion of their stay. Accordingly, there are only a few weeks during the summer that this property is available.

Our shingle style house was built in 1898 by William Barry Owen, a local businessman, real estate developer and owner of the Martha's Vineyard Bank. The park and beach, one block from our home, was named in his honor. The home was later sold to Captain Henry Stevenson, and his family members were the first occupants in 1898. Captain Stevenson owned a freight boat, the Eben A. Thatcher, which was a fixture in Vineyard Haven harbor for many years. The house remained in Captain Stevenson's family until we purchased it from his granddaughter in January of 2008.

The house's character, in-town location, expansive porch, view of Vineyard Haven harbor, and proximity to Owen Park Beach (one block), sold us instantly.

Make sure you check out the location of this property on Google Maps! One block to the beach and 3 short blocks to the ferry, shops, dining, bookstore, coffee shops, galleries, theaters and public transportation--in the heart of Vineyard Haven and all it has to offer. The excellent public library is across the street. No need to bring a car since you can walk to the ferry terminal, which also serves as the hub of MV's excellent bus transportation system to all other Island towns. Off street parking for up to 5 cars is provided if you choose to bring your vehicle. Perfect for teenagers who can walk to all of Vineyard Haven's amenities on their own.
