Cortijo la Solana
The property is a typical Andalucian, turn of the century stone built farmhouse , tastefully converted by the owners David and Diana Worthy who in a 'former life' ran a very successful ceramics business - CRICH POTTERY , back in Derbyshire , England and are now turning their hands at being part time farmers tending to a small herd of Alpacas ( and other 4 legged friends ) which they keep here . The accommodation consists of a main Cortijo and small Casita which can be rented individually or both together. The Cortijo has 3 double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathroom , large living/dining area , open log fireplace and kitchen with all normal facilities including washing machine. It will sleep up to 7 persons.
The Casita consists of 1 double bedroom with en suite bathroom incorporating walk in shower, split level living area with double Futon for extra sleeping and large kitchen/dining room. It will accommodate up to 4 persons.
Both houses have satellite TV plus DVD/VHS and WiFi internet access. They have large, private, patio areas with lots of outdoor seating, BBQ etc and private swimming pool (7x 4 m). For the winter months the Cortijo has central heating radiators and the Casita portable gas heaters ( extra charge ).

We invite you to come and stay with us on our small farm, where we have created , in this privileged environment, what we feel to be an ideal rural retreat. With stunning views to the Mediterranean coast and the surrounding sierras, this is the perfect location for anyone wishing to experience the real Spain. Enjoy the many wonderful animals we have here - alpacas, donkeys, peafowl, hens, turkeys, cats and dogs. You may not want to venture out but if you do there are numerous opportunities in the area for all kinds of outdoor activities such as cycling (mountain bike & road) walking, rock climbing, horse riding and bird watching. The ancient town of Antequera is only 25 min drive away, plus you are ideally situated to make day trips to the historical cities of Granada (1.5 h drive), Cordoba (2 h), Seville (2 h). Plenty to do and see, with the city of Malaga and all the attractions of the Costa del Sol only a short drive away (40 min) should you wish for it.

Terrific place – peace and quiet, character, great hosts and a world away from the concrete jungle
If looking for a characterful and relaxing haven in great scenery then Cortijo la Solana would be a good choice. We stayed as a family of four in Casa Grande for 10 days in July ’17. Location was ideal – about an hour from Malaga into the hills, but a world away from the Costa tourist conurbations.
The place is part of a smallholding run by British couple David and Diane up a long road/track past fields and small goat farms high up on the side of a hill. Casa Grande is connected to their home, but the holiday home and pool area are well separated using thoughtful design by walls and a high Spanish walled gate and we didn’t feel intruded upon at all. Diane has done a great job planting and landscaping and waking up to a view of a few donkeys and alpaca to the rear, or far distant mountains to the south, or the unique Sierra del Torcal mountain directly above to the west was lovely. It is far from neighbours and traffic, so aside from the occasional bird and animal sounds we had complete peace and quiet.
Décor is old farmhouse with exposed stone, wooden floors upstairs, terracotta tiles downstairs and in the bathrooms. Each room has its own character with thick walls, well adorned with pictures and their own ceramics and Diane’s alpaca felting pieces. The bedrooms are spacious, each with a double bed and ensuite. Most windows have wooden shutters as well as curtains, which effectively shut out the light (easy to oversleep!) and help keep the house cool.
We had outside temperatures in the high 20s to mid-30. The house remained comfortably cool and there are fans if needed. There was often a cooling mountain breeze. Outside you have commanding views from the front raised patio past and pool area. We all had fun in the pool which has a long shallow end and steps in one corner.
David and Diane were very helpful with local knowledge, tips and advice; we felt more like we were staying with some distant relatives than total strangers.
Villanueva de la Conception is the local small town about 5 mins away. Its a pretty and sleepy place with a few small squares, tapas bars, small shops, small supermarket, bank, petrol station. 10 minutes drive north is the Torcal mountain nature reserve, visitor centre, restaurant and walking trails to see its strange wind-carved stonework and commanding views. About 20 mins north is Antequera – a gem of a town with loads of history. Look it up; great for food, shopping and architecture.
Thanks very much for your great review Neil . We were very happy to have you, Susan , Cian and Lili stay with us , here on our little Spanish farm .
It's great that you were able to make the most of what's on offer, here in this beautiful piece of Andalusia .
The Welsh cakes were very tasty by the way , thank you so much !

Authentic, characterful & very comfortable
Our experience of La Solana was fabulous. Beautiful mountain air, magnificent views and tranquility. Authentic Spanish build, characterful furnishings, hidden away, yet not too inaccessible. Loads of interest in close proximity. David & Diana were perfect hosts - not there when you needed privacy but always available to answer queries or help in any way. It's a don't miss.
Thanks very much David. We enjoyed having you share our little bit of Andalucía , very much looking forward to seeing you again
Schönes Haus in toller Lage
Very Nice. Stunning view. Perfect hosts
House & garden are well kept, a tasteful mix of traditional Andalusian and popular artworks from all over the world. Surroundings are calm and peaceful, hiking tours to Torcal can start at the house and if you're lucky and a dog-friendly person, you'll even might have two personal guides on 4 paws for you. The dogs are most sweet and kind. Alpacas, donkeys, cats and peacocks will probably not move with you but great you nicely when you return. And the the hosts really are just perfect: naturally polite and friendly, accommodating, funny, practical, relaxed simply people everyone just loves to have as neighbours.
Just 40 minutes inland from Malaga and 25 minutes from the ancient town of Antequera - known as the crossroads of Andalusia. You have the possibility to make day trips to some of Spain's most famous cities - Seville , Cordoba and Granada, this is rural Spain at it's best. Villanueva de la Concepcion is the closest village at 3 km. With 3000 plus inhabitants it boasts numerous small bars and restaurants, post office, banks with ATM, 24 hour medical centre, swimming pool, sports centre, several small supermarkets, fishmongers, butchers, bread shops, tobacconist plus a whole variety of other shops as well as the customary range of typical Spanish fiestas and other events. On our doorstep we have the immense limestone mass known as the El Torcal Natural Parque, which rises to 1336m above sea level and is home to the Imperial Eagle and the Spanish Ibex. We have El Chorro gorge and the lakes nearby plus the beautiful town of Ronda. So much to do and see... or you could just laze by the pool and enjoy the peace and quiet.
