2 bedroom, 3+ bathroom home in historic center close to everything
About Laura Zuñiga
After visiting our cousins in San Miguel for six years, my husband and I finally decided to get a place of our own to share with friends and relax far away from our hectic lives. I'm an artist and professor, and my husband is in financial services IT, now living and working in Chicago, so we love to get away and relax, read, write, and spend hours in conversation with the many friends we've made in the friendly San Miguel community.
Laura Zuñiga purchased this House in 2012
Why Laura Zuñiga chose Zona Centro
Aside from the fact that San Miguel de Allende is simply my favorite city in the world, we chose our property because of its welcoming, bright, warm, colorful charm. After visiting homes in other neighborhoods, I realized that Casa Cantera is perfectly located to partake in all that San Miguel has to offer. Less than 5 minutes flat walk puts you in the artisan's market and large produce market. 5 more minutes has you in the Jardin, the center of the historic district, where you can sit on a bench reading the daily paper or watching the comings and goings of San Miguel's many residents and visitors. Dozens of excellent restaurants are within comfortable walking distance and if you get tired, $3 buys you a taxi ride anywhere in the center. Our neighborhood is friendly and family oriented and our terrace is breezy and comfortable day and night, all year round.
What makes this House unique
Casa Cantera is decorated with a wide variety of artworks from Mexican, Canadian and American contemporary artists.

Cute place in San miguel
Very nice traditionally decorated place in San Miguel. Easy walk to downtown. Local shops and pizza, if you are tired of Mexican food. ;) gorgeous rooftop terrace and back patio. Quiet and clean. Modern updates in lines with US homes. Very much enjoyed.
Lovely, peaceful, good location
The flat was very clean, full of lovely plants, decorated tastefully and seemed to have every kind of thing we needed - pots, pans, platters, shopping bags, equipment, etc. It was about a 5-10 minute walk to most things and felt very safe. The beds were comfortable, the rooftop patio was peaceful and lovely. It did get a bit hot a couple of nights - perhaps another fan (there were ceiling fans in both bedrooms, but perhaps another stand alone fan as well.).
Thank you so much for your lovely review. I'm pleased you found everything you needed in Casa Cantera. I appreciate your suggestion of another standing fan and will purchase one for the second bedroom! Thanks again and I hope you return to San Miguel soon!
Great little find
This place is charming and fit our needs to a tee. The living space provided comfortable seating in the morning while we enjoyed our coffee and the patio area on the rooftop was great. The plants and scenery gave us a spot to kick back at the end of the day. Loved it
Thanks so much, Annette! We're very pleased that you enjoyed Casa Cantera! We aim for our guests to be happy and comfortable in the house and appreciate very much hearing what aspects they like best. Please keep us in mind the next time you visit San Miguel.
Wonderful stay in SMA.
We throughly enjoyed our time at Casa Cantera and in SMA. The Casa is within walking distance of almost anything you would want to see. The house is fully equipped with a stocked kitchen, ample towels, comfortable beds, beautiful roof deck and patio. Everything was clean and functioning (great water pressure), and comfortable. The management and housekeeping staff are friendly and efficient. The only problem we experienced was poor television reception and the sofa could use a good cleaning but not a big deal. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and thorough review! I'm gratified that you appreciated all the points we love about Casa Cantera and our wonderful neighborhood. Thanks also for letting us know about the TV reception and the sofa. We hope you plan another visit to San Miguel soon and that you consider Casa Cantera at that time.
Best wishes -- Debra
Great time in SMA!
Beautiful home ideally located within walking distance of everything we needed with all the amenities. Rooftop patio is fantastic! Will definitely recommend.
A great home and wonderful service in an excellent location!
I couldn't express with words how much we enjoyed our stay at this home. The home is beautiful and comfortable. We enjoyed the decor of the home. The tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful. The art throughout the house is interesting. Plenty of space and closets. We truly enjoyed sitting on the roof top patio, enjoying the evening air and enjoying a few cocktails. It has a great view of the town. We also enjoyed having breakfast in the first floor patio. Great place to have a cup of coffee and enjoy the great weather. The beds were very comfortable which is hard to find. My son said he felt like he was "sleeping on clouds". The home was clean and very well organized as well as completely stocked. Nothing we needed that we did not have. We even enjoyed having the guitar which my brother was able to play for us when having family visit.
Outside of the home itself, the best and most impressive was the service. We could not thank Selene with more gratitude for her service. She came every morning to cook us a yummy breakfast and clean up after us. A service like no other. She was so pleasant. We truly enjoyed her being there. She was a great help in giving us information about the town and answering questions. She even helped us find someone to do our face painting since it was El Dia De Los Muertos. I have never had such great service from someone. Prior to our arrival, I communicated several times with Laura who was wonderful and very responsive. She made sure we had all our groceries in the home before we even arrived. We did not have to purchase any groceries during our stay, saving us time to do other things. When we arrived, there was a problem with the downstairs toilet. Nothing that really bothered me but I did mention it to Selene and they were replacing the toilet within a couple of hours. I was shocked at their quick attention to the matter. The maintenance man was pleasant and accommodating. Even going out of their way for us, to make sure the bathroom was ready for guests we were expecting that afternoon.
Location, location, location!! We walked everywhere. Easy walk to El Centro, El Mercado and we even walked to Parque Juarez. My son is 9 and not once complained.I would never stay anywhere else when visiting San Miguel de Allende. I highly recommend the home and Selene to cook and clean for you. Thank you so much for your beautiful home and your excellent service!
Thank you so much for letting us know how much you enjoyed staying in our home. We are so fortunate to have wonderful guests like you who make themselves at home and truly appreciate the things we have done to create a comfortable nest from which to explore San Miguel de Allende.
Best wishes until the next time!
