We had a wonderful time with friends. The cottage was perfect for a relaxing stress free break, comfortable and clean with everything needed for our stay. Penny was very welcoming answering our questions on the cottage and the area and also a lovely welcoming pack of wine and snacks.
Would not hesitate to recommend this cottage and im sure we will be back again.
A great hideaway
This cottage is hidden away up an alley in the middle of the pleasant little village of Chelmondiston. It's an old cottage with a modern extension so there's plenty of space to sleep six in comfort. It's got a garden with a big table, chairs and a barbecue so it's ideal for outside dining. The kitchen/diner/longue is a comfotable large room and the kitchen is well equipped with a decent size fridge/freezer, large cooker and plently of pans, crockery and cutlery. Having a downstairs toilet and shower-room as well as the bathroom upstairs is a real boon. But it's the surrounding countryside that's the main attraction. It's a 10-15 minutes walk down to the the delightful Butt and Oyster pub at Pin Mill on the River Orwell. Here you can watch the boats on the river go by and admire the moored Thames barge and other assorted boats. There's delightful walks from Pin Mill through the woods to Clamp Mill House or to Woolverstone. You can even walk all the way down the river to Shotley Gate, at the tip of the pennisula, and see plenty of bird life on the way. It's easy to get back on the bus.

A Great holiday cottage
The cottage was perfect for our holiday and more than fulfilled our expectations. Great location and Penny was very welcoming and helpful.
Convenient cottage, pretty village.
We felt very welcome by the owner who emailed us prior to our stay and came to say hello on arrival.
The cottage is pretty with a fabulous garden.
The cottage is a little 'creeky' and we could hear each other at night.
There was some noise late on Friday evening from some neighboring properties-not in view, behind the property.
We did have an enjoyable weekend.
Elm Cottage lies at the heart of the beautiful and thriving village of Chelmondiston in the south east corner of Suffolk. The village has a butcher and general store, a post office, a newsagents and a pub. Ten minutes walk away is the hamlet of Pin Mill on the River Orwell estuary. At this famous picturesque spot there are boat yards, a sailing club, an art gallery and the Butt and Oyster Pub. This is Arthur Ransome and John Constable country and there are dozens of walks from the front door of Elm Cottage, with fabulous opportunities for bird watching, sailing and just relaxing. The County Town of Ipswich is five miles away, with its docks and waterfront , restaurants, dance centre, theatre and cinemas.
