Overview

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Suffolk - Elm Cottage

Sleeps six(+2) in three bedrooms, two bathrooms. Large kitchen/living room

Elm Cottage is in the heart of the thriving village of Chelmondiston, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty just ten minutes walk from the riverside hamlet of Pin Mill. This Victorian semi-detached cottage has been fully refurbished. It comfortably sleeps six adults in one double and two twin bedrooms, plus two more adults on sofa beds. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs. The main living area includes a kitchen with granite work surfaces, range cooker, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. There is a dining table, sofas and armchairs, and a TV/DVD. Also downstairs is a cosy sitting room with an open fireplace. There is a separate utility room. The cottage is at the end of a 100-yard path from the road so, while being convenient for local shops and services, it is also quiet and safe for children.

We want Elm Cottage to offer you a bit of luxury while you are on holiday. You will find crisp 100% Egyptian cotton linen on the beds, bubble bath and fluffy towels in the bathrooms. The furniture is carefully chosen for comfort and style, there are original local paintings on the walls. We leave up to date DVDs for the flat screen TV/DVD. The kitchen has dualit appliances and just to make sure your stay gets off to the right start you'll find a bottle of wine, a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Chelmondiston and the hamlet of Pin Mill are on the Shotley peninsula, just one hour from the M25 junction with the A12 and one hour along the A14 from Cambridge. The peninsula is about eight miles long and four miles wide and is bordered by the Rivers Orwell and Stour. At the tip of the peninsula at Shotley just a couple of miles from Elm Cottage you can look out to sea past the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich. This is a fabulous area for watersports..with marinas at the neighbouring villages Woolvestone and Shotley. Pin Mill itself has a long association with seafaring, and particularly the magnificence Thames barges. You can watch these beautiful red sailed boats from the world famous Butt and Oyster pub has been feeding and watering sailors for hundreds of years. In the centre of the Shotley peninsular is Alton reservoir, here you can hire smaller dinghies, canoes and windsurfers for the day or even enrol in RYA courses to learn to sail .

Wheat, bean, potato and onion fields surround Chelmondiston and Pin Mill, this is an area which prides itself on the quality of the food it produces. Jimmy's Farm is a couple of miles away, with its rare breed pigs and butterfly trails it's a great authentic outdoor adventure for children. For the grown ups there's a fabulous restuarant and shop. A little closer to Elm Cottage is The Suffolk Food Hall, a new and expanding venture but one of Suffolk oldest farming families. This is like the Harrods Food Hall in the country. A fantastic butcher, fishmonger...fresh bread baked every day, a restaurant, cafe and garden centre, plus a outstanding view of the river make this a very easy way to wile a way few hours., and the simplest way to stock up for barbecuing at Elm Cottage. The Butt and Oyster serves food all day, the Pin Mill gallery has a resident cordon bleu trained cake maker and a cappuccino machine.

Beautifully mantained cottage in an idyllic garden, everything clean, fresh and top quality, and the owner went the extra mile to be helpful.

Cannot recommend highly enough.

Comfortable, clean, quiet & well equipped cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a most enjoyable stay at the cottage. Situated at the end of a pathway meant the cottage was very quiet and secluded. The cottage is equipped to a high standard and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. The area has lots to offer with local pubs a village store and plenty of scenic walks.

Fantastic cottage, lovely people

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cottage for my husband and his 3 landscaping engineers - thought I'd give them a treat as they normally get booked in to cheap b&bs when they work away. It was a treat as well - I came down and stayed on the last evening. The little village of Chelmondiston is idyllic. Lovely cottage, very nicely decorated with first class appliances and touches. There were two very nice lounges with log fires/burners. The large open kitchen was really nice. All of the bedrooms were spacious and nicely furnished and the power shower in the bathroom downstairs was great. The wifi connection was excellent also. Tim was great to deal with and couldn't do enough for us. We really recommend this place unreservedly and wouldn't hesitate to return again next time we have a job in the greater Ipswich area.

Hervorragende Ausstattung und Lage

  • 5 of 5

Sehr empfehlenswert!

Our Christmas stay in Elm Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We spent a very comfortable, warm and cosy week in Elm Cottage over Christmas. The property was very well maintained and clean and each room was tastefully decorated with lots of little extras. The owners even kindly put in a lovely real Christmas tree and decorations by the side of the log fire.

There are lots of lovely local walks and a superb pub right on the river Orwell who serve delicious meals a few minutes walk away.

We will definitely return,

The Lord Family from Chichester

Great cottage for exploring the local area

  • 5 of 5

We booked a last minute weekend away to Elm Cottage and had a great time.

The cottage has everything you'd need to eat in but is also a 10 minute stroll to a great pub (The Butt and Oyster) which had a wide choice of food (including a great Sunday roast) but you will need to book a table as it gets very busy (in peak season anyway).

We did a number of walks from the cottage and also explored Shotley Gate and Alton reservoir.

The photos certainly don't do this cottages justice as it is much bigger than it looks here. The welcome bottle or wine and homemade biscuits were also a really nice touch.

Owner's Response: It's wonderful to see people discovering our corner of south-east suffolk. The walking from the front door of Elm Cottage is fabulous. Many routes are really easy, all with great estuary or countryside views, and often taking in a pub or cafe. There's no need for a car to have a great holiday, but it's just half a 30 minute drive to the medieval wool towns of mid suffolk or the seaside towns on the north suffolk coast. .

Elm Cottage lies at the heart of the beautiful and thriving village of Chelmondiston in the south east corner of Suffolk. The village has a butcher and general store, a post office, a newsagents and a pub. Ten minutes walk away is the hamlet of Pin Mill on the River Orwell estuary. At this famous picturesque spot there are boat yards, a sailing club, an art gallery and the Butt and Oyster Pub. This is Arthur Ransome and John Constable country and there are dozens of walks from the front door of Elm Cottage, with fabulous opportunities for bird watching, sailing and just relaxing. The County Town of Ipswich is five miles away, with its docks and waterfront , restaurants, dance centre, theatre and cinemas.
