Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Ogema - Aamodt's Strawberry Lake Cabin

1 Bedroom Main Floor, Loft with Bed & Lakeview, 1 Bath

Few places can brag about autumns as astonishingly brilliant as the ones we enjoy Up North in the wilds of Minnesota.

And this log cabin, built by local Minnesota craftsmen in 2013 and tucked into a wooded lot bordering Strawberry Lake, welcomes you to a cozy getaway right in the center of some of the country’s most vivid fall beauty.

Every window at our Strawberry Lake Cabin frames a kaleidoscopic view of trees bursting into red, yellow, and orange. This is especially true of the cathedral windows encompassing the entire front of the cabin—from the main living area to the lofted bedroom. The vaulted ceiling and knotty pine/basswood walls increases the splendor of this part of the cabin, which also overlooks glittering Strawberry Lake.

Cozy up on the bench on the spacious deck facing the lake—a steamy mug of hot chocolate or coffee in hand—while the birds in the bright trees and on the mirrored water sing their last songs before heading south.

Or, on a sun-drenched day, sear some burgers on the gas grill and enjoy them on the screened porch. Then have a bonfire as the late-day sun’s gold light filters through the trees.

Did we mention the radiant, in-floor heating? Nothing beats it on a chilly autumn morning, or when you return from a crisp afternoon hike. Leave your boots at the door and give your toes a treat!

Couples love it here at our Strawberry Lake Cabin. Experience the easy romance of tucking into nature together and shaking off the stresses of everyday life. Unbound lake views greet you in the morning from the cozy, lofted bedroom, and a clear Minnesota sky full of stars lulls you into a deep sleep.

Plenty of autumn activities await active couples here, from hiking through golden forests, to biking lovely back roads, to exploring the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge (just 3 miles from the cabin) as the animals scurry to prepare for the long winter ahead.

Friends’ getaways—complimented by a bottle of Minnesota wine, maybe?—find a wonderful setting here, as well.

And families find a home-away-from home at Strawberry Lake Cabin. We have a highchair, a baby crib, and a washer/dryer for warm, fresh clothes for everyone mid-week.

No matter who you’re traveling with, we highly recommend a canoe trip out on Strawberry Lake. We provide the canoe for you! And the water here is calm and peaceful, with less motorboat traffic than on many of the lakes in this area. Not to mention the water clarity: spring-fed Strawberry Lake is so clear, you can see almost 17 feet straight down to the bottom!

There’s a timeless quality to Strawberry Lake and Northern Minnesota. As the setting for many of my own happy childhood memories (and the place where I proposed to my wife), the woods and lakes Up North hold a special place in my heart. I love being able to share the magic of this place with others—at a cabin built by people who live here in the area, too.

We’ve decorated the house with items that mean a lot to us, collected locally and around the world, and often leave a surprise or two for our guests.

About Don Aamodt

As a farm boy raised on an apple orchard in Stillwater, MN, I grew up loving the outdoors. With my father and grandfather, I spent my childhood hunting, fishing and camping in the woods 'Up North.'

Though my wife (who grew up in Sonoma, CA wine country) and I now live in the Central Valley farming region of California, our love for woods and waters of Minnesota ensures that we make time for yearly visits to Strawberry Lake Cabin. With its tucked-into-the-trees setting next to sparkling, spring-fed Strawberry Lake, we've found no better place in the world for recharging together. And we think you'll agree!

Don't hesitate to contact us with questions about the cabin and the surrounding area of Detroit Lakes - we're happy to help!

Sincerely, Don and Cheryl Aamodt

Why Don Aamodt chose Minnesota

When I came to see the lot on Strawberry Lake, I was hooked. This lakefront property - though overgrown and in the need of TLC - captured everything I loved about my youth in Minnesota: a thick cover of trees to mark the passing of the seasons and to keep the cabin secluded, a sandy lakefront for launching canoes, and acres of crystal-clear water. The cabin itself is a new construction - built in 2013 - and provides lots of amenities we didn't have back in my days of camping in the MN woods, including a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a downy bed for restful nights, and radiant heated floors throughout.

What makes this cabin unique

Too many to name! Mostly, we love its Off-The-Beaten-Path secluded feeling, in the dense trees, the big front deck facing the water, the private boat dock, and the lofted bedroom that feels like a treehouse - a place where you can escape the rest of the world for a while.

great getaway in northern minnesota

  • 5 of 5

This is a great cabin about 30 minutes north of Detroit Lakes. We loved the place so much that we barely went anywhere else during our stay in the area. The cabin is beautiful with a fully equipped kitchen. There are also two grills to cook out on the back deck which overlooks Strawberry Lake. We also enjoyed a bonfire one night and use of the canoe which is included with the cabin. If you are looking for a getaway where you just want to relax in a great space, this is the cabin for you.

Peaceful and serene

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is beautifully designed with comfort in mind. From the moment you step through the door onto the screen porch or find your way to the cozy chairs on the deck overlooking the lake, you will feel at home. I came by myself for some peaceful R & R and enjoyed every minute. Highlights included visits from hummingbirds, watching shooting stars during the Perseid meteor showers, and cooking special meals in the well-equipped kitchen and on the grill. (Both gas and charcoal grills are available and I found everything I needed at the supermarket in Detroit Lakes--about 25 minutes away.) There wasn't much lake traffic, though some loons called out as they passed by. (Loved that!) Booking was easy and the caretakers (a husband and wife team) stopped in to make sure I had everything I needed and brought me a home-baked treat to enjoy during my stay. I wish I could have stayed longer!

Loving the Lake Life!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was clean, cozy and complete with everything we needed. The beds were super comfortable and the kitchen had every utensil you would ever need. The location right on the lake is perfect for boating, fishing, walking, or just sitting on the deck and relaxing while enjoying the lake life. It's a little off the beaten path which make it a great place for families to relax and spend time together. Thank you for making everything from booking to check out so easy! We're already talking about 2017!

Spring escape to peace

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at your immaculate cabin home was a real treasure and treat. The chill in the air didn't dampen our spirits when we realized how lucky we were to have a secluded few days in a beautiful scenic area. The cottage itself had a feeling of comfort and thoughtfulness. There was a variety of hospitable items - geared to make any vacationer feel included in the experience and enjoyment of the tranquility that a weekend away or longer can bring.

Awakening in the loft area with views of the lake is a sight truly inspiring and healing. Taking short walks around the surrounding area also gave a feeling of freedom and gratitude to all aspects of nature.

There was not one utensil that wasn't available and a sense of true quality was represented in all aspects.

We also took a drive into Detroit Lakes and it was refreshing to shop at a different grocery store than what we are used to up in Canada. The owners have put a great booklet together of the surrounding area so it was easy to choose where to travel nearby.

We will definitely return again in the future and were diligent in leaving the cabin as clean and respected as when we arrived. I can imagine the beauty only gets even better as the warm weather approaches.

Highly recommended to all those seeking solace and some definite quiet time.

Cozy Cabin by the Lake

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I took a trip to this cabin on Strawberry Lake for a winter getaway. The design of the cabin made the stay all the more wonderful. The big open windows allowed natural light to seek in during the day and exposed us to the beautiful space outside of the cabin. It was nice to get to see the beauty that surrounded us but still keep warm in the cozy cabin! I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who likes outdoor activities or even a home body who loves movie nights! The owners are very friendly and welcoming. I would love to go back someday!

Strawberry Lake's pristine water clarity makes it a premiere destination for swimming, boating and fishing. This spring-fed lake provides clean, clear water with 12-15 foot visibility to the lake bottom.

Consider a dawn or dusk trail bike or car ride to nearby Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge; then, walk, run or ride the miles of backwoods trails to view the exceptional array of wildlife - Bald Eagle, Nesting Osprey, Trumpeter Swans, perhaps even a Woodcock or Gray Wolf...all of which we've seen in the refuge, and so many more wildlife viewing wonders.

During the Winter months, Tamarac offers more hiking and wildlife watching on cross-country skis, snowshoes, boots or by car.

Itasca State Park (headwaters of the Mississippi River) is 42 miles from Strawberry Lake Cabin - a lovely 53 minute drive.

Pilots and passengers are welcome - Strawberry Lake is a float plane accessible lake.
