Located in an excellent part of Silver Lake in a quiet residential neighborhood above Sunset Blvd. Situated between Downtown LA and Hollywood. Walking distance to cafes, restaurants, shopping, bars and farmers market. Silver Lake is a very artistic community featuring various architectural styles of homes surrounding a lake/reservoir. There is a beautiful walking path surrounding the lake for strolls.
This 1920's Era Chateau, is a two story, one bedroom home. Character abounds with a gated & hedged entry leading you into an arched doorway. There are hardwood floors, original wood windows, lovely light fixtures, and remodeled kitchen. Inside of the home is beautiful craftsman wood staircase. The kitchen has wood butcher block counters, farmhouse sink, and stainless steel stove/micro. There is a new LG washer/dryer, all in one machine, in the kitchen. The large bedroom has a new organic bamboo queen size bed. There is a private courtyard with alfresco dining for 4 on the vintage french cafe set. Air conditioned for the hot summer days of Los Angeles.
Gisele and Guy are the owners of this property and bought it as a fixer. After restoring the interiors, they were ready for occupancy. We have lived in the Silver Lake area for over 15 years now and really enjoy it here. Gisele is a Los Angeles native and a local real estate agent, and Guy has been here over 25 years from Illinois, so that makes him a native as well. :)
Gisele Plouffe purchased this chateau / country house in 2011
This is our second VRBO rental and have had glowing reviews from our guests so far. We really enjoy it and always make sure the home is ready for our guests. Silver Lake is a very special place for us as well as Los Angeles in general. It is a wonderful place to live, and growing up here cannot imagine living anywhere else.
We love to own a piece of Los Angeles history. Built in 1920, we are sure if these walls could talk, we would have some very interesting story's of old Hollywood. As soon as we walked into this home, we knew it was the place for us. You will see while staying with us, just how special the setting and character are. From listening to the birds in the morning to the cathedral bells in the distance, it is a quiet hideaway in LA.
This was my third time staying at the Dahlia Chateau. Once I discovered it's warm charming accomodations, I have booked it for my stays visiting my daughters family. It is on a quiet street with plenty of parking, and very privately situated down a few stairs behind a pretty hedge.
The Chateau is spacious- each time I have stayed with one of my adult children. Giselle is a very gracious hostess, preparing a very clean accomodation with fresh flowers and prompt response to any questions or needs you may have.
The air conditioning works well, and the neighborhood feels safe enough to leave the second story windows open to enjoy the cool night air. The kitchen is fully equipped with a large refrigerator and clean new oven.
It is within walking distance to shops, restaurants, groceries, and coffeeshops. We also walked to the town of Silverlake. It is hilly though, so if that's more than you want to do, I recommend taking a car.
I always enjoy staying here because it feels like a home and is such a quiet retreat to be so close to Los Angeles.
I would much rather keep this secret to myself but that wouldn't be fair to Giselle who is the host of this outstanding property. I was there for a business trip and enjoyed the proximity to the Financial District. I even made it twice to Griffith park which is not far away. The chateau offered the perfect size for up to 2 people, I loved the well equipped kitchen downstairs and of course the patio. What a treat to come home after work and sit outside with a glass of wine. The home has a "Paris" theme. Everything was clean and well maintained.
We had a wonderful time at the chateau. The location perfect for us because it is close to my daughter and it is within walking distance to many shops. The house itself is quite charming, perfect for two. We loved that the kitchen is on a separate floor from the living room and bedroom. When I got up early in the morning, I was able to have coffee without being a disturbance. The house is well stocked with linens, towels, and kitchenware. Although the house itself is old, the appliances are very up to date. Giselle has added many French accents throughout the house. We will definitely visit the chateau again!
This was our third stay at Gisele's chateau, and it was just as lovely as the first two times. The neighborhood is quiet, yet as it is in Silver Lake, very accessible to multiple parts of LA. The Chateau is roomy - my husband and I stayed for 5 days, and while it was a vacation, we still had to do some work and the layout of the Chateau enabled us to both relax and get things done without getting in each others' way.
Oh - and on this third visit, I finally figured out the space heater in the fireplace! (the buttons to turn it on are on the lower right -- prior to this, I thought it was just a decorative piece.)
We had a lovely stay at the Chateau. There are only two things that prevent us from giving all five stars:
1. It would be nice to have a dishwasher so as to avoid having to spend vacation time washing dishes.
2. The Chateau is very quiet unless there are residents in the Lodge next door. It is close quarters and we were woken up a couple of nights by the people next door and their dog.
That said, we would have no hesitation in recommending the Chateau to anyone.
