Whimsical Cabin On Rainbow River, Free Kayaks & Canoe

30 Reviews
Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cabin in Dunnellon

Uncork your spirit & indulge in the phenomenal rainbow river on a property with an ancient phosphate mine & whimsical past.

This wonderful old Florida cabin, circa 1940, celebrates the charm of the era in a very romantic & cozy setting. The open 600 sf layout of this cabin is very comfortable and perfect for only two people. The screened porch looks out over the picturesque Rainbow River offering 116' of pristine river frontage. You will encounter otters, wood ducks, turtles, foxes & exceptional birding, along with other forms of wildlife.

Explore this unique river on our kayaks or canoe should you choose to indulge. Fish or dive off our dock where vast fishing opportunity abounds. We furnish a gas BBQ grill for your outdoor dining pleasure & fire pit to relax by in the evenings.

This historic river property steeped in Florida history, nestled in a very serene setting on 1.5 acres of towering pines & majestic oaks, is very much like a storybook. The property boast an ancient phosphate mine, excavated during the Dunnellon boom days, circa late 1800's. This phosphate mine was bridged over to access the cabin & river.

Wondering about the property literally brings you back in time in a park like setting. You will enjoy the natural flora & fauna, some of which could be considered prehistoric, such as the large mastodon fossils in the phosphate mine, which can be viewed. Many of the majestic pines are centuries old & history reveals they have been used for turpentine harvesting. Come and take a stroll through our beautiful property which we have been blessed with. The 1.5 acre has 2 cabins. The 1st is the rental cabin & the 2nd cabin the owners live in

There is also a small vineyard on this land, and if in season, wine may be available for tasting.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I stayed for 3 nights & thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Nancy & Mike got us settled in the first night & were quick to help us get set up in the canoe & get us on the river the next two following days. The cabin was perfect for two people & had everything needed from coffee maker to utensils to towels to hair dryer. It was also clean! We enjoyed eating our breakfast & lunch on the screened in porch facing the river, daily & used the gas grill for one of our meals. We had the option of using the canoe or kayaks & we used the canoe both days of our stay & it was a snap to get the canoe in & out of the water at the property. We canoed all the way into the Rainbow River State Park head springs area & back. It was beautiful on the river & if we got too hot, then quickly cooled off by splashing each other or jumping into the water for a quick swim. We brought our own tubes & opted to tie up to the dock & float a bit on one of the days & also just enjoyed time sitting on the dock & watching the tubers & other wildlife. We had dinner in town all three nights & ate at the Blue Gator, Swampy’s & BubbaQue’s BBQ restaurants & had good meals & service at each place. Both Blue Gator & Swampy’s have outside dining with river views. The property is gorgeous & if you get the chance to visit with Nancy & Mike for a bit during your stay, then they can fill you in on the history of their property & the springs area. We are looking forward to visiting again & definitely appreciate all the work that has been done to the property & cabins & that such a beautiful spot is available as a vacation rental.

This is our third stay at this amazing place. Besides the accommodations being absolutely perfect, the beauty is in the details. Mike and Nancy poured their heart and soul into this beautiful property and it shows! We are always so touched by their hospitality - you definitely feel like you are at home! We love walking the property at night and noticing all the small but thoughtful details that were added to make everything as perfect as can be. It will always be our very special getaway spot! We're already looking forward to our next visit! ;-)

My husband and I stayed at the Cabin for about a week. We enjoyed it so much that we will most likely be coming back. The property is breath taking form the moment you enter to the moment you leave. We both loved that we could spend the day on the river and the evening at the cabin. The Cabin had everything we needed to be a able to enjoy the week. The owners Mike and Nancy are such kind people. They stayed to themselves and left us alone (even though they are super nice and we wouldn't of mind them talking to us more). My husband enjoyed being able to fish right off the dock and I also enjoyed being able to lay out on the sun deck . This is a trip for the books :)

I would give this rental higher then a 5 if I could.

AMAZING place to stay and perfect for a little getaway.

My husband and I just spent 4 days at this wonderful cabin and everything that has been written in all of the reviews is absolutely true! The AWESOME hosts have thought of everything. The king size bed was so comfortable and all of the comforts of home have been provided. We enjoyed breakfast on the screened in porch, watched the squirrels play and dreamed of living on the river. The love of this property is apparent everywhere you look and we have fallen in love with it. Mike and Nancy, you have truly created our "happy place"! Thank you!

After reading all the reviews for the cabin, we felt comfortable reserving, and what a GREAT decision it was. Once we arrived we knew this was even better than the photos depicted. The extraordinary details in the cabin and the lush, vast property are endless. The cabin is very lovely, clean & comfortable, especially the bed. Though the rental includes kayaks, we brought our own and easily launched them from the property. We enjoyed eating at several restaurants and recommend the Blue Gator waterfront restaurant, The Front Porch and Bubba's BBQ. We also recommend visiting The Ocala National Forest, it's beautiful and a short drive from the cabin. We thank Mike & Nancy for their kindness and setting up everything to make our stay feel like home. We are already planning our next visit back to the cabin. We highly recommend it.
