Overview

About the property

Bring a bottle of wine - Watch the Sunset in Solitude from our deck

Stay in our Spotted Rock Cabin

Our charming red cabin is a two bedroom, one bath loft home built high up on a mountain ridge with views extending far off towards the Smoky Blue Mountains and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Facing west, watch the sun set from the deck while relaxing in our rocking chairs with a cocktail. If you have just returned from a hard day of site seeing, soak up the heat in our hot tub while looking at the stars or if your fortunate, falling snow.....a bucket-list item.

At three thousand feet, get away from the summer heat, enjoy our rustic wood stove fireplace in the evenings and hike through the hundreds of acres of surrounding forest, and through our own 60 acres of solitude.

If feeling alone, just talk to Alexa anytime she is needed: Alexa, play NPR...or...Alexa, what is the weather like? If you must tell Alexa words that would pique the interest of the NSA, do that at the beginning of your stay so that the black-clad commandoes who will surround the cabin won't bother the next guest!

You can reach the cabin in your regular car, and when 'home', the shack with its two compulsory mounted deer heads looking over the living room will feel like your place for rest and relaxation.

Don't look for the granite, you wont find it, but do bring your laptops as there is high speed internet available, a wireless printer/scanner all ready for your office away from home and netflix for bumming it on a lazy day.

Feel your blood pressure fall as you drive up to the top of our ridge, passing through the security gate to reach this exclusive mountain top where you can rest easy knowing you are in the coziest cabin here.

You cannot see your neighbors, they are a good long walk away. Perfect for strolls, and seeing the deer that roam around.

See the Area

Shop for antiques or groceries in Brevard NC which is 20 minutes away. Dine at the pleasant Red Lion Inn, at the bottom of the mountain (1 mile from the cabin).

Fish at our local lake, which is within a mile or if you like hiking through the woods, straight down the mountain.

See the spectacular mountain meadow waterfall within two miles of your family home in the mountains.

Go on Day-Trips

The Transylvania county / Asheville area is called the 'Land of Waterfalls' for good reason. Visit one of the five state parks that surround the cabin, drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, in about thirty minutes, dine at the fabulous Pisgah Inn restaurant (58 min from your cabin) overlooking the entire area.

Visit the Biltmore House (1hr 19min from the cabin) for a day of seeing how you will never live. Go to the Asheville Farmers Market (1hr 5min) and pick up jams, honey, dried fruit and all manner of fresh produce...so you can be healthy.

Go kayaking or tubing with the Headwaters Outfitters (9 minutes from the cabin, near Rosman) down the French Broad or Davidson Rivers....

Use our 4.5 inch telescope to show your family the planets in our clear, starry sky after you downloaded a sky app to your smart phone.

Visit Asheville (1 hour) and dine at the Mellow Mushroom in downtown, knowing you can escape back to your cabin when the artists wake up.

Slide down the rocks at Sliding Rock (30 min from our Brevard Cabin), go to Pisgah National Forest, Hike in The Great Smoky Mountains National Forest, Go fishing in the Nantahala National Forest, pick-nick in the Table Rock State Park, drive through the Ceasars Head State Park or view deer in the Chattahoochee National forest.

If scenic drives is your thing, Route 64 passes right by, and is one of America's most scenic highways with a car-stopping waterfall or view about every .02 miles. Outfit your whole family with neck braces before you go ... you will be breaking so often.

Hang out on a rainy day in the cabin, showing your incredible youtube videos to your friends and family on the TV through our chromecast device and your chrome browser.

Take a day trip to the town of Highlands (1 hour from the cabin) where most of the porches and bently's west of the Mississippi are found. Drive past one of the many country clubs near Cashiers (45 min) and Lake Toxaway and the Greystone Inn (25 min), knowing that you would have to sell your house to pay the entrance fee to become a member.

Pick-up that nagging relative at the Asheville Airport (54 minutes from your Brevard Rental Cabin)....yes, with all that nagging, it's a day trip!

Take a tour of the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute PARI (30 min) to see their huge radio telescopes and to learn how they transmitted the words 'one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind' to us slugs at home on our couches while Armstrong got some exercise strolling about the moon.

Visit Hendersonville (56 min from the cabin) and stroll down energetic main street on Friday evening.

Lastly, have breakfast at the Country Skillet in Rosman (11 min from the cabin) so you can be among other folks like yourself and work on that belly fat that we soooo need to be hiking off.

To book is easy, if the calendar shows it is not already booked, book online! If you have kids younger than five, contact me about their safety first. The cabin is pet friendly, but we need to charge a small pet cleaning fee for the cleaners extra time.

Come and stay at our Spotted Rock Cabin!

About Jonathan

Hi, I am Jonathan..............

I love the area and our cabin and have enjoyed visiting it for over eight years. The cabin is like the perfect frontier cabin that our forefathers never had with all the modern conveniences and charm...

Being from Florida, the North Carolina mountains and this area specifically are akin to heaven for my family and I. No air-conditioning needed in the middle of summer (although the cabin has it)! Mild winters. The stars are bright at night. You can breathe easily, the temperature and air is crisp and the people in the neighborhood are so incredibly hospitable.

I love visiting the quaint local towns and cannot get enough of the scenic mountains, streams and waterfalls.

This is a good place to recharge, I do when I am here. There is plenty of room to hike and stroll right from the cabin door.

.............. Come and stay!

Why Jonathan chose Asheville Area

Relaxing and chilling out in the Smokey mountains. Listening to the storms in adjacent valleys.

  • 5 of 5

No words to describe the experience that will do this stay justice. The place was so much more than I had expected and the mountain view was mesmerizing. Definitely ask Alexa to tell you a joke. She has some good ones. The cabin is secluded and quiet and listening to the woodpeckers was pleasantly memorable. There is so much to do and see, I had five days and didn't get to see all of it. Plan on making it a yearly thing. As a veteran of 22 years this place was truly a slice of heaven. Thank you John for everything and all the advice on places to go.

Serene Spotted Rock

  • 4 of 5

Relaxing, remote and rejuvenating. Spotted Rock cabin is the perfect place for getting away from it all. Since I'm a city girl, it took a little bit for me to transition to the quiet. Thankfully I did. The house manual has everything you need to create a good stay in the area. We visited Hendersonville with its picturesque Main Street, the Carl Sandburg house in Flat Rock, Pisgah Forest and its famous waterfalls and forestry center, drove the Blue Ridge parkway and enjoyed the vistas and winding roads, Brevard bakeries and looked for the white squirrels. Lots to see and do in the area. The only change that I personally would make is to add lightning in the kitchen/living area. Other than that enjoy this remote setting with its cool, starry nights and fresh air.

My husband and I loved staying at Spotted Rock Cabin! Convenient distance to multiple hiking spots. Well stocked kitchen and bath. We found the cabin information book to be very helpful in planning our stay and Jonathan was extremely helpful with pre arrival info! You can't beat watching the sunset from the hot tub for relaxation. Loved our stay!

Very quiet cozy cabin.

  • 4 of 5

A very private location, but a little small for 4 adults. The evenings watching the sunset from the hot tub were great. Communication with the owner was great. Another comfy chair and a little better lighting in the main room /kitchen would make it 5 stars

Owner's Response: Doug, thanks for staying and your feedback. It is a delicate balance between keeping the cabin a rustic cabin...I love how simple it is, and modifying it's heart and soul...but we are always progressing, and I agree with you on your points. Jonathan

Rustic Relaxation

  • 4 of 5

This Cabin was exactly what we were looking for. High up on a ridge where you can soak up the clean mountain air. It is located near Gorges State Park, DuPont State Park and the foothills trail for for excellent hiking and waterfall viewing, an hour to Greenville for great restaurants, an hour to Asheville for excellent craft beer, and 40 minutes to Lake Jocassee for swimming, paddle boarding, and boat rental. We spent our morning sipping coffee on the porch enjoying the cool mountain air, our days off on an adventure, and evenings hot tubbing and grilling dinner while enjoying an adult beverage. It is the perfect mix of rustic with an updated shower, hot tub, wi-fi, and gas grill.

We love the cabin!!!

  • 5 of 5

1. We have truly enjoyed this vacation. First of all, I must say, the instructions to the cabin is clear, easy to follow. Second, the handbook showing all the different areas we can go, fun activities to do, with directions, pictures and instructions, loved it. Very thorough and detailed information.

2. The cabin is very beautiful, cute, clean and comfortable. We loved the quite environment: listening to birds chirping in the morning, watching sunset through the trees, and enjoying the hot tub after a day's walk in the trail, wow, life is beautiful!!!

3. We enjoyed the fire place at night, the cabin feels cozy and homey.

4. We went to the Mountain Meadow Falls (about 1/2 mile away), also went to the Triple Falls. Enjoyed the beautiful scenes and took a lot of pictures.

We will definitely come back next year!!! Thank you!!!
