What makes this cabin unique

1/8 mi from Zorbaz (on same lake for easy boat access), 1/4 mi to golf, and 2 miles to Perham.

The best features of this cabin are:

The billiards room / bar is very roomy and comfortable with a great view of the lake. It also overlooks the first floor, making it seem like one large 2-level room.

Automatic lift to use for wheelchair accessibility and transport of coolers, people and equipment to the dock and lake shore.

Large lovely home and view with great walleye fishing although most were too big to keep

The house is lovely and the view of the lake is wonderful. There was a picnic table outside on the patio. The kitchen was well appointed with what you would most likely need to use cooking meals. The water has a very strong metallic taste and we bought a few gallons of drinking water for use.

To get down to the lake you must take the lift. One set of stairs goes to an observation deck but not to the water. The lake bottom is rocky so bring some water shoes to wear.

The neighbors are more of an issue than described by other reviewers. The minute we arrived, he lit a fire in his fire pit on the property line with something that produced copious amounts of strong smelling smoke...and then he left it smoking all day, every day. I called the sheriff about the unattended fire. The sheriff came out and said the guy was "odd" but not doing anything illegal and "he knows how far he can go without breaking the law." My daughter has asthma so she could not be out in the yard at all and all our clothes smelled like we had been near a forest fire. The neighbor also threatened to shoot my brother and our labradoodle when she went on the lake shore in front of their house.

The house is for sale and the first morning we were there a realtor showed up at 10 am to show the house without us being alerted ahead of time. There was also another showing while we were there.

This would be a great place to stay if not for the neighbor. We left early because we were tired of being trapped in the house from the smoke. The owner was responsive when I called for a clogged bathtub drain. There really is nothing he could do about the neighbor. I wish I could give the home a higher rating but overall, we were very disappointed by our stay.

Do not rent if you want to drink the water, wash clothes, or take a decent shower.

Our family had not been on vacation all together for a very long time, and we were so excited to have a week in MN with my two young grandchildren. Upon arrival at the cabin, it was immediately noticed that it had not been cleaned at all. There were mounds of garbage greeting us in the driveway. The bathrooms were dirty, the beds were not made, nothing had been dusted, etc. My son called the owner, who said that he thought we were coming the next day - but our reservation was for the day that we arrived. The owner sent someone out later that afternoon, and she did a quick "clean up", but the toilets were still rusty and red, and the kitchen sink was not cleaned. I assumed that the redness in the toilets was permanent, but my daughter-in-law found some cleaner in one of the cabinets, and they were easy to clean without even scrubbing hard - so I know the cleaning lady did not attempt to clean them. My room had not been dusted, and I do not think she changed the sheets, either.

I texted the owner to ask if they drank the water, and he texted back saying "No". Here we are with two small children (5 months old and 18 months old), both still taking bottles, and we could not drink the water or even feel comfortable washing bottles with it. I am not opposed to "roughing" it- we have camped all of our lives, but when I pay the amount that I paid for this cabin, it would have been nice to know that the water was not drinkable ahead of time- this would have changed my mind about renting the place.

The water in the shower came out in a trickle and I texted the owner about that. He sent a plumber out and the plumber took off the water softener (I think that is what he said), and the pressure was better after that, but by the 3rd or 4th day, our toenails and toes were stained red from the water. Lightbulbs were out everywhere - someone brought over some lightbulbs, but they were not the right size (we needed the little round ones for the bathroom and one of them was actually broken off, so not sure if I would have felt comfortable replacing it anyway).

The stove was hard to cook on because the little drip plates that are under the burners were all the wrong size, so the pots would not stay on the burner. I asked the owner for some kind of financial reimbursement since this rental did not turn out at all like I had expected. He did refund me $100.00, but we spent at least $25.00 on water - plus the headaches and worry over the water.

Nice Home

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at his rental and in fact my 5 brothers and Dad are renting this property over Labor Day weekend. The yard is small but not a real problem. The lift to and from the lake was really nice . We had 9 adults and 2 small children and the house had plenty room for all. The pool table is a was nice to have on the rainy days. Crazy neighbors but they were not a problem. We would rent again.

Good place!

  • 4 of 5

We were worried about booking the house after reading a review concerning a crazy neighbor but decided to go ahead and get the house anyways and glad we did! The owner is very honest and upfront about the neighbor too when asked. But we barely saw the neighbors during our week stay and had no issues.

There is an AC unit upstairs that cools the entire place so keep your doors open at night if you don't want to get too hot. We couldn't figure out how to turn on the upstairs ceiling fan to assist in circulating the A/C.

There is a corn hole and ladder ball game left in the shed which was appreciated. There is a charcoal grill present at the property so make sure you bring plenty of charcoal with you and bug spray.

The water at the cabin has quite a bit of rust in it so be carful while washing clothes or taking too hot of showers because you have a chance of turning yourself or clothing orange (I like very hot showers and the rust seemed to react with my sun screen and made it look like I had a bad spray tan). The owner leaves you a sheet warning you of the rust and other helpful tips and information about the area and cabin by the garage door.

The trash was delayed from its Monday pickup but hopefully this issue was resolved. There is also an ant problem under the kitchen sink.

People always want to know the good and bad so those were our only complaints but here is more about the place: the cabin was perfect for people needing a get away and having two different living room style set ups were great! The cabin's view of the lake was probably the best one possible there! When all else fails for dinner, Zorbas has wonderful pizza and beer and is a short and easy walk. There is a neat elevator brining you down to the dock and with my older parents this was a treat! The elevator made me feel so much better about them getting up and down to the water.

Beautiful Lake Modern Cabin/Home

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this rental and would return!

I will start with Cons then give the Pros:

Cons: If you are not used to the country prepare yourself to expect bugs including ants, spiders, weeds by the lake and such. There were quite a few ants in the kitchen and some even in the bathroom even though there are traps out- but this is pretty typical of lake homes so it was not a surprise to us.

We didn't use the washer/dryer as the water in the area is very rusty- so expect this also.

We did have trouble with the boat lift(cranked on it for 15 mins or more and still would not raise for us upon arriving- owner contact and help arrived the next day and it was fixed)

Also be careful not to hit the e-stop buttons on the elevator lift to the lake.. we accidentally did and didn't know to twist it to pop it back out so it delayed lake access for a bit.

Pros: Lots of space for everyone. We are a family of 5 with a dog- this place could have fit more very comfortably.

Beds were comfortable- air was cool- pool table was a neat feature.

GREAT lake for fishing.. caught many northern, walleye and perch!

The e-lift to carry people from the property to the dock was helpful... the bank is very steep so having this was a plus!

Owners had AWESOME communication!

Beautiful views from the deck!

Misc: Other reviews indicate problems with the neighbors. Yes they have "do not trespass signs", yes they have what appears to be CCTV surveillance cameras pointing on their own property(which by the way is well groomed and beautiful too), yes they have a flood light on at night that does shine onto this property near the side entrance and yes they do not wave back but honestly we didn't have any problems with them nor did we feel it was necessary to require friendly neighbors to rent. Reviews mention they gave an "unwelcomed" vibe however I actually felt a greater sense of security. I felt like the neighbors signs/cameras etc. may actually deter crime. But, if you are not used to seeing surveillance cameras and that makes you feel uncomfortable it would be something to consider. We walked down the loop and at the end also lives a deputy so the neighborhood does provide a sense of security which we appreciated.

Be sure to visit Zorbas- its literally right down the road.. and Perham is so close with plenty of things to see and do!

Great cabin on a great lake

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is a wonderful! This is our second year renting this cabin. The owners have done remodeling since last year on decks and one of the bedrooms. It was a good fit for our family of 9 and one small dog. Perham is fun. We rented the pontoon for a day and toured the lake. All and all a great week at the lake!
