Enjoy relaxing in this cabin located at what used to be the old Blue Front Resort. Cabin has access to large shared dock across the street. Fish or swim off dock. Boat lift up to 1500 lbs or pontoon lift available for fee during stay, (or tie up to dock during day, take out at night). Cabin is 2.5 hours northwest of the Twin Cities by quiet, forgotten 2700 acre (and three islands) Lake Alexander. This lake is classic Minnesota wilderness with lots of loons, majestic pines, and great fishing for walleye, northern pike, bass, muskie, and sunnies for the kids. Drive 22 minutes to Baxter for shopping at Target, Costco, Starbucks, Cub Foods, Fleet Farm, Menards or Kohls for supplies. Take your boat to the Castaway restaurant on the lake or drive 1 mile by car and enjoy food and beverage on the outdoor 'tiki bar' deck. Property has swimming area and dock for fishing, kids playground, picnic tables and space for kids to run around. A second cabin which is lakefront (15 feet to water) is available on VRBO site, too, if you need two cabins for family events.
This is the guest cabin of our family getaway. We wish we could be here all the time but we can't, and so decided to share the experience it provides through the VRBO network when we're not here. Many families enjoyed the cabin in the past when it was part of a resort and we wanted to make it available for them to enjoy it again.
Dave and Robin Heieren purchased this cabin in 2004
Great classic cabin on beautiful, quiet lake. Common area for kids to run and play. Excellent fishing and boating, and close to all Brainerd lakes area has to offer.
Experience the quaint pine cabin as it was during the resort days. Sleeps up to 6 people (2 on full, 1 on single, 1 on single, 2 on hide-a-bed couch). 3 bedrooms total.
Spent the week there with my family. I thought the location was nice. Directions could be more clear to get there however. Use the vrbo map and write your own directions with the county roads. The cabins we stayed at during the week were in good condition. The caretaker was friendly and flexible. We had to move from the cabin we were in to the lake front property at no charge because of double bookings. The beach is sandy, shallow and locked in by the docks. Which our kids liked a lot. The neighbors were friendly. We took time to explore the Brainerd area, which had plenty to do for a day. There were also free horse rides from a nice family across county road 3. So just across the road basically. My wife and I had a really good time. By the way my kids were super over done by Friday check out. I could tell they had fun too.
The owners of this cabin were Great. I received a personal call the night before our trip giving me some final details and asking me if I had any questions. The living room was larger than expected and very comfortable. The cabin is nicely decorated with a sailor theme. The beds were very comfortable. The boat docking is very nice. Thanks for sharing your proprrty with us.
We enjoyed our cabin stay very much. Had a mix of weather, so when it rained we went and explored the little tourist town of Nisswa, then played mini golf at Pirates Cove on the way back through Baxter. There are a lot of golf courses up in the area, some real high-end ones on and around Gull Lake. The closest to the cabin was about 7 minutes, but we chose Maddens on Gull which was about 20 minutes away (I think you could spend a month playing all the courses in the area and never play the same hole twice). The cabin has a beautiful dock that is shared with other cabins as the place was previously a full blown resort. Great swimming area with access ladders, rocky shore with sandy bottom. Fishing, we made effort to hook one of those northern or muskies that hang out around the area, but no luck on the big ones this visit (there were sunfish hanging out below the dock). We ate walleye at the Castaway Restaurant twice, liked the tiki bar. Really excellent vacation, Thanks! We'll be back next year!
Lake Alexander is a beautiful 2700 acre lake with 3 islands, two public boat accesses, and is located half an hour northwest of Brainerd, just a few miles west of Camp Ripley. At one time the lake had many resorts around it. This cabin is part of the old Blue Front Resort. It's away from the hustle and bustle of Brainerd and yet close enough to take advantage of all the lakes areas offerings.
