The Green Duck (formerly Yellow Finch House - before being painted green in '14) is simply an easy house to be in. A simple 1 bedroom house, with a sunroom (sleeper sofa pulls out to a Queen size bed for extra sleeping) ,a full kitchen and living room area with a small working bathroom (standup shower only). The house is equipped with washer and dryer! We like to keep all the screened windows open all summer and let the breeze keep the house cool, but there is an option for AC in the bedroom if you absolutely need it ($5/day option - just leave the cash on the table when you leave if you use it). There is working WIFI, DVD system, and over Dish Network TV channels, but save that for a rainy day because you'll be spending most of your time outside on the deck or down on the beach and/or swimming dock. There are 2 brand new kayaks for your use as well as some extra life jackets and inflatables. Plenty of deck chairs for sitting or laying out in the sun. A great place for bird watching and fishing right off the dock! A raised metal fire pit for those late night bonfires! This property is unique as we get both Sunrise on the lake and sunset over the hills of Fox Run Winery! One last thing - a charming and historic train runs next to the house. The train seems to have no set schedule, but seems to run very infrequently. Sometimes not coming for days on end and other times passing by up to 3 times in one day. We see this as part of the charm of the place- the train goes slow and the conductor will even sound the whistle for you if you wave at the train! All in all - this is the perfect house for a quiet, get-a-way - full of fishing, swimming, laying around, working on your new book, or a just a romantic rural experience! Ideal for 2 people, but can sleep up to 4 altogether. Oh, and if it gets too quiet - Historic Downtown Geneva is a 15 minute drive. There you can find gift shops, a cinema, The Smith Opera House, grocery stores, and a lakefront park. If none of that suits you, please feel free to use any or all of our 3 bicycles for a joy ride around our area - right in the heart of Amish Country!
*** This is a year round rental. We spent last winter here and made some great memories. I must say the place is stunning during all four seasons. We do ask the guests DO NOT use the wood stove (for safety reasons). The house is well insulated. There is electric heat (Thermostat), as well as some very advanced, high-end space heaters for the areas that don't heat up as well. If you would like to see some photos of the place in winter time, just ask and I will email them to you.
I grew up in the finger lakes district and spent many memorable summers on Seneca Lake at my Grandfather's cabin. I moved away for work to Manhattan and after years of hard work, I was able to purchase my own cabin on the same lake as my grandfather - my own dream come true- my own paradise. Sadly, my work requires me to travel almost constantly, so I am excited to share this slice of heaven with you!
jonathan pierce purchased this house in 2012
I wanted to have a home on Seneca Lake, simply for nostalgic reasons. I missed those perfect quiet summers I spent up here as a kid - and when I am here - I do feel like a kid again. You have to stay here to really grasp what I'm saying! Also, living in Manhattan has really made me crave serenity. Here, you are literally surrounded by nature.
Incredible lake views, private 165 ft. beach, private road to house (shared with only two neighbors), the house is on the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. The backyard is flush with Fox Run's Riesling grape vines (pictured)! There is a working refrigerator in the boat house , so you don't have to leave the beach to enjoy a cold beer or some crisp white wine in the sun!
The property is beautiful, and extremely well equipped. Highly recommend staying here.
Very nice property, with a great view of the sunrise on Seneca Lake. Great place to use as a base for visiting the Finger Lakes region, but also an excellent place to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You can buy groceries in Penn Yan, or Geneva, and just relax at the cabin and you wouldn't be missing a thing. Surrounded by vineyards, you can't go wrong!
I would enjoy coming back to this property and would recommend it to anyone interested in a quiet location on Seneca Lake.
This vacation always brings us back to base. We feel grateful and revived after our stay. Thanks Jonathan!
We (reluctantly) departed from the Green Duck after a week stay. We had a wonderfully relaxing time. We loved the house and its vibe. It's lake quirky without being over done. Everything in the house was as advertised and we hope to be back sooner rather than later. I imagine the autumn weekends are glorious.
Jonathan the owner was so great at communicating and the house was exactly as advertised. The surrounding area is beautiful, the location is peaceful and you can easily get to Geneva and easy shopping in just a few minutes. We wanted for nothing and we hope to return soon.
My husband and I booked this welcoming hideaway for a restful vacation after a crazy holiday weekend. The pics and videos do the place justice but does not capture the feeling you get when you are there. This is truly a little piece of paradise. We spent our morning watching the sunrise down by the dock enjoying the peace and tranquility before roaming the area for lunch and exploring the multitude of wineries. I have never had such a restful vacation. Jonathan is a dream host! He is absolutely generous and welcoming and does his absolute best to make sure you enjoy your stay. Thank you for a wonderful week!
