Villa Grand Piton: an enchanting oasis of tranquility! Piton & sea views; staff

Property type villa
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

Overview

About the property

Secluded hilltop villa with staff and pool. Spacious - 4 queen beds

A huge thank you to everyone that has selected our home for their vacation or special occasion - we're thrilled to report that Villa Grand Piton is the #1 booked St Lucian property on HomeAway for the past year!

Please note: in high season (December 15 to April 27) we accept only Saturday-Saturday stays (7 or 14 nights).

First time to St Lucia? We suggest you start by deciding the best part (North or South) of the island for your vision of an ideal vacation. This is important, as the distances between the different parts of the island are a lot longer than they look on the map. It's about a 90-minute drive (each way) from the North to the South on very twisty roads (with driving on the left - "British" - side of the road). You'll end up spending most of your vacation near your accommodation, so be sure to stay in the south if you want to "play" in the south - and vice versa.

Hopefully this short guide will help you decide which is right:

The South is where you find the iconic Pitons and views that will literally stop you in your tracks. Here is where the best outdoor activities are located - hiking through the rain forest, climbing a Piton mountain, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, dolphin and whale watching, waterfalls, ATV rides, zip lining, plantation tours, horseback riding, mountain biking, mud baths and the drive-in volcano, wind and kite-surfing, and of course, relaxing on the beach, including the white-sanded Sugar Beach. A few resorts/hotels and private villas are sprinkled across the hillsides, many (like ours) positioned to get the most amazing views. The restaurants range from food trucks for lunch to white-tablecloth fine dining. There is a much more local and laid-back vibe to this part of the island than the North. If you are looking for an outdoor and active vacation, or to simply stay at an accommodation with incredible views of the Pitons and feel your stress melt away, this is the part of the island you want. And ten years after a stay in Soufriere, you'll immediately recognize your trip pictures as being from St Lucia!

The North (Rodney Bay/Castries/Gros Islet) is where you find all the large resorts, lots of restaurants, a casino, duty-free shopping, etc. There is a little hiking and snorkeling on Pigeon Island (in Gros Islet). The views are nice, but overall the area is not too dissimilar from many other Caribbean Islands. This is the area to choose if you are looking to mostly soak up the sun on the beach, and want a typical Caribbean beach town to walk around in the evening for bars and restaurants for tourist-oriented nightlife.

Does the south sound perfect for you? Then the only thing missing for your dream vacation is the perfect villa. How about one that is almost like a private hotel, with staff to take care of you while you enjoy stunning sunsets and jaw-dropping views of the Pitons? Our home, Villa Grand Piton, may just be the answer! You and your family/friends will be the only guests in our spacious home, and have our sparking pool to yourselves to enjoy the magnificent view of the Pitons, the Caribbean and the sunsets. Our friendly staff will keep the villa clean, help you plan your activities, and anything else you need to make your vacation truly unforgettable. Hotels offer meal plans and driver services, and we do, too - just inquire for details and pricing.

What would a stay at Villa Grand Piton be like?

_______________________________________________

Picture a romantic, tranquil, spacious villa, high on the ridge of a hill overlooking the Caribbean.

Start your day watching the sailboats glide along the sea under a rainbow, while sipping a cup of smooth local coffee or cappuccino.

Float in the sparkling swimming pool, surrounded by cashew trees and brilliant bougainvillea. Or grab your gear and go snorkeling or diving at the best areas in St Lucia, only a short drive away.

Dine on delicious freshly-caught fish outside in the shaded gazebo as the sun sets over the Caribbean.

After dinner, marvel at the Milky Way and the billions of stars in the inky-black night sky.

Sip a glass of wine while being cooled by the mountain breeze.

Watch for shooting stars while being serenaded by the music of the night.

Everywhere you look, you are surrounded by a postcard-perfect panorama of the Piton mountains and the Caribbean Sea and the most amazing sunsets. Inside, you have all the comforts of home with comfortable queen beds, en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioners blowing cool air on the beds, a wonderfully-equipped full kitchen and an entertainment room.

Our friendly staff will keep the villa and the pool sparkling clean and give you assistance around-the-clock, whether you need information on the best time to climb the Piton or just need more shampoo. Our housekeeper and property manager, Doxie, is an excellent cook - she can either just do the cooking for a modest fee (usually about $20 US for a multi-course dinner) or provide your entire meal (please ask for pricing).

Additional important information about Villa Grand Piton:

Our home is a non-smoking villa. No smoking anywhere in the villa or on the grounds, except in a designated smoking area at the base of the driveway.

The villa and grounds pose inherent dangers for children under 13. If your party includes any children under 13, please contact us so we can describe the issues. We want to ensure Villa Grand Piton is a good fit for your party.

The villa is not available for rent without the staff.

The villa is built in the open-architecture style of most Caribbean residences. This style emphasizes harmony with the outdoors, and does not try to create an impenetrable barrier between the interior and exterior. Doors are not weather-stripped, windows are not covered by glass, and the buildings often have other openings to allow free airflow, allowing insects and geckos into these houses. Our windows are covered by screens, beds and the Jacuzzi all have mosquito nets, and we have an outdoor mosquito-control machine to help keep the mosquito population down.

Given the open nature of the house (interior walls that do not go to the ceiling, no glass covering the windows), the air conditioning in the bedrooms will not be able to cool the rooms, but does blow cool air on the beds to make sleeping a little more comfortable.

Noises also carry somewhat in an open-air house, and you may be able to hear what is happening in a nearby room in the house when the rest of the house is very quiet. We've put some small radios in the bathrooms and there are TV's in the bedrooms. Feel free to turn either of these on to create some background noise.

We do require a signed (electronic signature) rental agreement, which will be provided upon your request to book the villa.

About Owner - Bill and Loretta

We've been married for almost 20 years, and just sent our youngest child off to college. We both have stressful full-time jobs as engineers in the energy industry, and we have to fight the traffic of a big city every day. We're getting close to retirement, so we started looking for a place to retire a few years ago, and decided that St Lucia was the only choice after visiting multiple times. We grew up in the Midwest, and never, ever dreamt that we'd retire in the Caribbean! But we love St Lucia so much, we decided to buy our retirement home a few years early, and share our home, so that you can experience the joy of spending time in St Lucia, too.

Why Owner - Bill and Loretta chose Soufriere

We purchased Villa Grand Piton as our vacation/retirement home. We knew it was the right place for us the moment we stepped out of the car - the view of the Pitons stopped us in our tracks and we just stood there, awestruck, for a few minutes. Then we picked our jaws up off the ground, walked into the house, and saw how spacious, light and airy it was, and instantly knew this was the only place for us. After spending our first evening there, listening to the tree frogs and the breeze rustling the leaves, we could not imagine any other place that we could call home.

We hope you find it as magical and restorative as we do.

What makes this villa unique

We started vacationing in St Lucia over 10 years ago, and the beauty of the island, the weather, and the friendliness of the people convinced us we had to spend as much time as possible in St Lucia. We've visited much of the Caribbean, and we've never found any other place where the people are as genuinely warm and caring as in St Lucia.

St. Lucia is a wonderful getaway whether you are looking for romance, rejuvenation or exciting activities. Palm-fringed beaches, unspoiled rainforests and the majestic Piton Mountains make up the gorgeous landscape of Saint Lucia. Natural waterfalls, breath-taking views, friendly locals and authentic culture are sure to impress even the most cultured traveler. St. Lucia has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Among the natural beauty of the island are ancient fortresses, fishing villages and gracious town squares waiting to be discovered. You can hike, bird watch and explore the natural attractions of St. Lucia or you can take part in many of the activities on land, water or air from horseback riding to SCUBA diving to helicopter rides.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had such a wonderful and relaxing time. I have so much appreciation for the kind and warm people here. Doxie made my trip extra special. I really enjoyed her chocolate tea and special remedies for my chest cold. The food was amazing! This is a magical place and we truly loved every minute.

THE PLACE: Breathtaking and more beautiful than the pictures! This place is immaculate, although you won't spend much time indoors! It was very quiet and peaceful while we were there, and we spent much of our time lounging at the pool or playing one of the many games the villa provided. It is so well stocked with everything, including a generous food basket. The beds/pillows are so comfortable, and all beds have netting to help keep out pesky mosquitos.

OWNER/STAFF : Owner, Loretta is so buttoned up and professional. Her communication throughout gets an A+.

We had Doxie, the housekeeper/chef make dinners for us twice, and a Roti lunch for us one day. She is a fantastic cook, and the portions are extremely generous, providing you with leftovers for the week. She is a really sweet lady.

Junior drove us to/from the airport and we stopped at a grocery store before going to the villa. Billy, our driver for the week (works for Junior), was always punctual, and we felt very safe in his care. I do recommend that you take Loretta up on her offer of doing PayPal through her so that you don't need to carry so much cash. She will explain how that works. It was very helpful.

EXCURSIONS: We did a sunset catamaran sail through Mystic Man Tours right in Soufriere, which was great! They had drinks flowing and snacks. We spotted dolphins and the views from the water were just incredible! Well worth the $65 price tag per person ($60 if you pay cash).

On another day, we took a boat ride for several hours, starting with snorkeling at Sugar Beach, which was incredible, and going out to sea where we were amongst a pod of dolphins. We got some cool pictures of jumping dolphins. The boat then took us up the coast to Castries, the Capitol, and then to Marigot Bay (gorgeous) where we had lunch, and Mario and Ted pointed out Mick Jagger and George Forman's homes.

We did the Tet Paul Nature Trail which offered beautiful panoramic views, but not sure it was worth the $100 taxi ride and $50 ($10 per person) hike (plus tip). You can stretch out the walk , but really it took no more than 1/2 hour.

We snorkeled at the local beach of Anse Chastanet, which was great, and went to the beautiful Botanical Gardens. Several people told us to skip the volcano, and mud baths, so we did, although I'm sure they are nice excursions.

We ate out twice. Once at Boucan (in the Hotel Chocolat) and once at Dasheene at the Ladera. Both were delicious, and both accept credit cards

Perfect Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

The BEST vacation ever! A beautiful home surrounded by an even more beautiful environment. Our kids loved everything about this island, particularly the fresh fruits and they dream of living here “in twenty years”. The view of the Pitons never gets old and we enjoyed many amazing rainbows and sunsets followed by star gazing at night. The rain “just a passing cloud” says Doxie. Doxie – Thank you for making our vacation extra special. We enjoyed every meal so much! What a treat to share the week with you and your daughter! Junior, Omar, and Billy helped us navigate the island and John, Neil and Kerryus were always so friendly and helpful. This was truly an experience of a lifetime!

Magnificent Property

  • 5 of 5

My family of 6 recently spent a week vacationing at the Villa Grand Piton. I can't say enough positive things about the property and staff in particular Doxie and Neal. The owner of the property was extremely organized, responsive, and informative. I would recommend utilizing the driver service as we had a great experience with Billy. I give the Villa Grand Piton my highest recommendation.

Spring time in Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful spring break at the villa and are sad we had to return to our daily grind. Doxie and the rest of the staff were amazing! Doxie's cooking provided us with excellent, authentic local cuisine. Junior and Billy were well worth it, they served as both driver and tour guide. St. Lucia and the villa are beautiful!

Amazing vacation at Villa Grand Piton!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 just spent a week at Villa Grand Piton. Loretta and Bill were very helpful and responsive leading up to our trip. They made sure everything was set up ahead of time and shared a lot of information about activities and restaurants in the area. The house itself is beautiful! Very well equipped, comfortable beds, plenty of towels. Pictures don’t do the view justice! Picture perfect. Doxie was very helpful during our stay. She even cooked a few delicious meals for us. We decided to have Junior and Billy drive us for the week. They were great and very informative! Overall, a wonderful experience. We hope to be back!

Exceeded Expectations !

  • 5 of 5

It is difficult to have expectations and have your fantasy ruined by the reality. Every aspect of our stay at "Villa Grand Piton" exceeded our expectations. And our fantasy became actual reality. We were not prepared for the Villa to be as perfect as the pictures-But yet-it was.The ease of interacting with the owners from initial contact, to booking, and all the time leading up to our trip-and our arrival. The Villa staff-Doxie -General Manager and cook extraordinaire. Junior, our driver and an awesome concierge, his colleague-Billy. Neil and John making sure everything stayed 100% perfect in the house and grounds and insuring our safety by knowing there was someone available to us 24/7. Junior arranged for a day of boating along the coast and snorkeling. Our boat operator(Mario)and Billy took pride in showing us the beauty of the coastline of St. Lucia and stopped for us to get in some great snorkeling in different locations along the way. We are so pleased that our vacation was a dream that came true. We will be reserving for February 2019 at "Villa Grand Piton" for a necessary relaxing and "down time" vacation. I can't imagine going anyplace else after experiencing all that this property, owners and staff offers (and delivers).
