Nice upstate weekend

  • 4 of 5

Our group of 11 adults stayed on the property this past weekend (9/9-9/11). Pool and grounds are beautiful in a nice, secluded location. Martin and Louise are very welcoming hosts and available on site at the property to attend to any issues or questions you may have. Kitchen and outdoor deck were great for the meals that we cooked, and there is ample seating in all areas of the property to hang out. We took advantage of the in-ground pool, boat dock with paddle boats and kayaks, and screened-in porch, as well as the small fire pit at night. We had a great time and basically stayed on the property the entire time. The grocery stores, etc. that we went to were a bit of a drive away, so just make sure to plan ahead so that you have everything you need so you can take full advantage of all of the amenities the property has to offer!

Kind owners, however, items we wish we knew before we rented.

  • 2 of 5

Marty and his wife were responsive and easy to communicate with before and during our stay at their home, they even allowed us to change the dates to accommodate other families travel plans.

We were a big family of adults and kids that was meeting in Ancram from other parts of New England and New York.

Here are a few things we wished we had known so we could have made an informed decision about our stay. There is little to no cell coverage and spotty wifi, so if planning on working remotely, or needing to be in contact with others is essential it is difficult in this area of the Berkshires.

Since we were a big group we needed all the sleeping space, however, we found the one bedroom in the basement was leaking condensation onto the pillows at night and the room was very very musty smelling. We did not use that bedroom or bathroom all week therefore we all had to sleep in the main house on airmattresses and futons.

This is Marty and Louise's home that they are sharing with us, and we found the amount of their personal belongings difficult to not worry about while the kids played. The house was picked up but not 'hotel cleaned', for example: we found an old sippy cup under one of the beds.

The lakefront was pretty much unusable due to the older structures and amount of lilly pads by the shore. Our kids enjoyed the pool each day. However, this too was 'well loved' with a rip in the liner. Lots of chairs and places to sit throughout the property.

Owner's Response: Sorry about the sippy cup. The tear in the corner of the pool that had a patch over it happened this summer. We would have had to empty the pool in order to fix it and since we had guests scheduled that was impossible. The pool company put on a temporary fix. The Internet unfortunately is not as good as it would be in the city where there aren't as many mountains and trees. Verizon doesn't work well here. ATT&T is better. We did give you a land line phone to use. We weren't aware of the problem in the downstairs bedroom. You're the first one to complain about it and it has been used since you left. We try to please our guests wherever possible

Absolutely beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a dream come true for a family vacation. If you have children, even more so. The owners are the nicest, most wonderful people. They are very interested in giving their renters a great time. Martin was always on top of everything making sure we were most comfortable. And the activities! Almost like a resort! There are bikes we used. kayak, peddle boat volley ball and more. Even when the children made a mess they didn't mind. We had an absolute amazing time!

Property is secluded from hustle and bustle with lots of space for a large group...lovely lake view

  • 3 of 5

We had a family reunion for 10 people, ages 5 to 80; we liked the house idea (rather than hotels) to have a common area, and lots of outdoor space, which was the main appeal for Ancram. The lake/pool was fabulous as we brought our own kayaks, and they provided a paddle boat, which was great for all ages. The surrounding area has fun things to do as day trips; Bish Bash Falls and the new(er) Aerial Adventure at Catamount is MUST for any avid outdoor person; I have two teenage boys where this was the highlight of the week. The property owners are super, super nice and fabulous; even though they are on the property in their own area, it was great to see them and ask for assistance when needed. The rent was very reasonable because the house does need some upgrades; we did run a few days with low water pressure and/or not enough hot water. If you have folks whom need consistent WiFi for work purposes, this will be challenging. We had three different carriers between all of us and it was difficult to get a signal; the owners' WiFi worked sporadically; you may have to ask them to reset it every few days to regain access. Make sure you bring your own food if possible; local grocery stores (close is 10 miles) are very expensive.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for renting our house. We have contacted a plumber to address the water pressure and hot water issue . Sometimes when too many people use the showers at the same time the hot water is used up and the pressure gets low. I spoke to our internet provider about the Internet crashing and they are taking care of the problem We enjoyed having your family here.

Perfect Getaway House For Friends and Family with Pool, Lake, Big Backyard with Games and More!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at Marty's Ancram home! Great communication before we arrived and Louise answered all our questions. Upon arrival Marty showed us around the residence and gave us a tour of all its features. We stayed at the house with family and friends as a getaway weekend from NYC. The weekend was PERFECT! So many things to do right on the property. The pool in the backyard was clean, refreshing and fun - equipped with comfortable chairs and tubes to float around in. The backyard is equipped with so many activities and games you'll never be bored no matter your age! Fun group games for friends and/or the whole family... volleyball, bean bags, tetherball, a golfing practice net and more - all in a large backyard with so much room to run around. The fun doesn't stop on land! You can access the lake right from the backyard - go fishing, kayaking or just relax in the gazebo that looks out on the lake. The house has many bikes to go on bike rides on the country roads too.

We enjoyed grilling out during the day on the large patio, and at night relaxed in screened-in patio. We made delicious s'mores over the fire pit in the backyard in the evening!

We're so glad we stayed at this house and can't wait to come back next year and would highly recommend! Marty and Louise were great hosts - thanks Marty and Louise!!

Great Place with Great Hosts

  • 5 of 5

We came as five couples, ten of us in our late twenties hoping to celebrate the 4th of July. Marty and Louise made it very easy. The house was spacious, tons of deck space. We hit the pool and the lake each day and grilled out each night. Tons of lawn space for all sorts of games as well. It was an amazing weekend. I would recommend it for anyone, of all ages, looking for a getaway.

Many thanks for your hospitality.
