This is 'Old Florida' at its finest. Located on 2.3 acres on the St Johns River in Colee Cove. The house sleeps six with a pull out couch in the living area.
August 2014, we just competed a major renovation of the house by replacing all the floors with Tile and hardwood.
Two bedrooms each en suite with bathrooms and queen size beds. This is the original house on the property that was built in 1948 and moved and remodeled in 2000.
If quiet and quant is your objective-then you have found it!! The house has a porch with a view of the river and a front porch that lies under the oaks.
All the amenities exist in the house. Full kitchen, Cable TV-HD, Wi-Fi, Washer and Dryer, Grill and Smoker.
You have full access to our dock which has deep water access at 6' and full hookups. The upstairs is an enclosed screen area that boosts the most spectacular sunsets.
For the fisherman, we have a unique fishing environment with both fresh and salt species. On the fresh side-Largemouth Bass, Bream and Specs. Salt-redfish, flounder, stripped bass.
Ospreys, manatees, eagles and alligators are among the many different types of wildlife that can be spotted at various times of the year.
I always tell our guest that the house is setup just how I would want it if I was on vacation. Clean, comfortable beds, fast internet, excellent cable, charcoal grill and all that you will need in the kitchen.
Come experience what we call our daily paradise!
As 3rd generation Floridian, my family has own property in Colee Cove since 1946. We have lived next door for 15 years and as the family grew so did our need for a larger home.
In 2008 I obtained a Captains license and have preformed guided fishing trips on the St Johns river.
Our family respects, loves and uses the river at every possible opportunity.
Buddy Henley purchased this house in 2013
Quiet, unique, beautiful, and rare experience in a part of Florida that some never knew existed.
Sunsets to the west are unbelievable. If you love to fish, then this is it! It is not every day that you can sit under 300 year old oak trees and be so close to the oldest city in America.
All I can say is wow. We stayed with our kids for a week and felt as if we were at home in Indiana. The property is beautiful along the river. This was our first time in the St Augustine area and we plan to return again.
I would highly recommend this property.
We brought the crew to the Henley Guest House -- mom, dad, four kids and the family dog. Despite a rough arrival (we had car troubles along the way), the vacation vibe hit the minute we pulled into the driveway. The house is so sweet -- great porches, nestled under a canopy of ancient oaks, comfortable decor with many charming touches. Buddy himself greeted us and gave us few tips on dining spots and the property that made us feel right at home. When we walked in, my daughter remarked about how clean the house smelled, which is a testament to the owner's attention to detail given the age of the home and the proximity to the water. The linens were all crisp and clean as well and the kitchen was well-stocked. The area was a perfect launching spot for day adventures -- Old Town St. Augustine, tubing on the Ichetucknee River were our high points. Taking a few moments to relax in the elevated boathouse overlooking the St. Johns is also a must. The sunsets are gorgeous. We loved the set up of the second and third bedrooms, where our kids slept. We hope to come back during a cooler weather time when we could open the house up and really live on the great porches there. Thanks again for the hospitality on your charming property.
The Henley's were gracious host and the house was well furnished and supplied. Will come back!
We had a wonderful visit!!! Your house was perfect and it exceeded our expectations. We will certainly be back. Thank you so much for making our stay in St. Augustine so wonderful.
We spent the Christmas holiday at the Cove. The home was clean and cozy. The weather was almost 20 degrees above norm so we spent our days at the beach then would return to the house in the evening to make dinner. There were plenty of pots, pans, and utensils to use. I brought paper towels, paper plates, plastic utensils, foil.....from home, but there was plenty available at the house. There are other homes near the house, however it is very quiet and still quite private. We returned from the beach on Christmas Day and the owners left a tray of homemade cookies and rice krispies treats along with ranch oyster crackers and a Christmas card. It was very thoughtful and yummy!!! The house is about 30-40 minutes from the majority of the tourist attractions. Our favorite beach was Anastasia State Park. The beach is nice and there is an area for fishing and kayaking. We spent several days there. We also enjoyed Washington Oaks Garden State Park. The gardens are beautiful. There is a go kart, arcade, and mini golf place not far from the house. There are outlets next to the go kart place. We also went to the historic area and potter's wax museum. We went to the Alligator Farm and had our picture taken with a snake, and alligator, and an albino alligator. I definitely recommend going to the Alligator Farm. Make sure you stay to watch them feed maximo. We did a kayak tour at Ripple Effect. You get free passes to Marineland across the street. They had a bogo dolphin encounter special while we were there. Our girls got to swim and play with a dolphin. It was priceless! We also did some fishing. We caught several bowfin. This is a great area to visit. There is something for everyone. The house was comfortable and the owners were very friendly. If we return to this area, we would definitely return to the Cove.
We had a blast, this house was very quaint and cozy. The owners were kind enough to leave us some bug spray, a dog treat for our pup, and some nice welcome notes! The dock to the St. Johns was GORGEOUS, and we had such a nice time. Thanks Buddy!
I came down from Indiana with my two young children for a training course that took several weeks. I don't believe I could have chosen a better place than this rental house! The owners went over and beyond my expectations with their hospitality, and my children really enjoyed living here over the summer months. Even though my training was intense and often stressful; I would get back to the house from my days of training and my environment was so absolutely amazing that it would bring me back to my center. It is truly a place for peace and relaxation with awesome views of beautiful oak trees and the St. Johns river. The location is perfect if you want to get away from it all, however if you want something to do it is only 25 minutes from downtown Saint Augustine and beautiful beaches. Did I mention that there is also premium outlet malls about 20 minutes away :) The house itself is cozy, comfortable, clean, all household appliances work and I learned how to use a charcoal grill! I can't thank Buddy and Amy enough for everything they did for my children and I. We will cherish the memories that were made at this home forever and we will definitely be back!
Old Florida at it's finest. Majestic oaks along the banks of the St Johns River. Located 5 miles south west of the World Golf Village in a quiet residential rural setting. All the amenities and needs are 10 minutes away with downtown St. Augustine only 16 miles due east.
