About Rick Cottier
We all grew up here in Sandusky. Our Grandfather built the house back in the 50's. We have and continue to enjoy the property.
Why Rick Cottier chose Sandusky
Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, beach across the street, Cedar Point down the street, close to the city, shopping, movies, golfing, boating, fishing and much more.

Not as Advertised
We consider ourselves pretty laid back people. We have been staying in various rental properties around Lake Erie for the last 20 years. We have stayed in some great properties and some horrible properties, and this rates near the bottom. We booked the property based on the advertised amenities, including a washer/dryer and a private beach. Two days prior to leaving for the property, we had not received any information about the check-in procedures, or even the address of the property. My wife e-mailed the owner who e-mailed back, and gave us the address, but provided no other information about the property. The day before we left he e-mailed again, stating there was high water on Lake Erie and the beach could be unusable. While this threw a large wrench in our plans, we understood this was not within their control. We arrived at the house and looked through the property and could not find the washer/dryer. We spoke with someone who informed us he was "sort of the maintenance guy." He advised us the basement of the house was flooded, and we would not have access to the washer/dryer. This was a crippling blow to a family with small children (including one with special needs). Having no ability to do laundry on a beach vacation is unacceptable, especially with no prior warning.
Later that day we decided to go across the road and check the beach conditions. We walked up the access stairs (rickety and overgrown with weeds), to a wooden deck. We observed there was no beach. Not only was there no beach, we could not see how there ever was a beach. There was no way to get off the wooden deck, there were no steps, and no path down. There were a large amount of giant rocks, trash, cinder blocks and metal in the water area. Had anyone attempted to go down to the water, they would have fallen onto sharp, jagged rocks! While the water level was high, there were other beaches on the same road that appeared to be perfectly fine and usable. (We took pictures to document the situation).
The last morning we were there we awoke to a horrible smell of gas (?) that even the maintenance guy could not pinpoint the source of. We left immediately.
Great place for family gatherings
This is ideal if you want to be close to Cedar Point or Port Clinton but have a place in an area that's quiet and not too crowded. The road to the house is "private property", so traffic is minimal. The best part is the access to a private beach on Lake Erie. We swam and played in the sand. The house is clean but it and the furniture are dated but not tremendously worn out. It was comfortable to sit and relax or just hang out. There is ample space in the living room and den for everyone. The beds are extremely comfortable.
Well worth considering if you're visiting this part of Ohio.
We had a wonderful mini vacay with our daughters and grandkids. The house was so spacious and well equipped. The property was well kept. Having both the bayside and lakeside to enjoy was an extra added bonus. Only regret was we didn't book enough days!!

Lucky on the Lake
Our family of 5 met good friends of ours (a family of 4) for Memorial Day weekend in Sandusky. I found Lucky Stones on the internet and it was a gem of a place to stay. Accommodations were very large and comfortable. Loved the water view on two sides of the house. Great to wake up to Sandusky Bay. The house had all the supplies we needed and actually provided a lot more of everything than most of the other rentals we have stayed at. (dishes, dish soap, tp, linens, towels, plenty of all).Thrilled there were two refrigerators. Very clean. Quite peaceful!
The only things that would have been nice to have were two full bathrooms instead of one and a half for as large as the house is. Also, would be helpful to put the words wifi code next to the code on the fridge so we wouldnt have had to call owners to ask for the code. Also, make sure propane tanks are full for grill.
All the teenagers loved the place and proximity to Cedar Point. Everyone in our party would be happy to stay there again and we would highly recommend it.
Cedar Point is 5 minute drive down the road. Go for the day or get passes for the week. They have parasailing at Cedar Point. There are area boat rentals or jet ski rentals. Catch a boat ferry downtown Sandusky, or take a scenic ride to Marble Head (30 minute drive) to catch the ferry to Lake Erie Islands. Get day passes for Kalahari Water Park or Great Wolf Lodge. Golf at Sawmill Creek just a few minutes away. Swim and relax on the beach. Must bring own towels, lifejackets, and beach toys. No life guards, so swimming is at own risk.
