What makes this cabin unique

The location of this cabin is one that is removed from the hustle and bustle, yet central to all that the Flathead Valley has to offer. It is set back into the woods of the foothills and very private with ample space to romp and roam.

Great time in the woods in Montana

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. More space than we needed, comfortable, well stocked with not only the basic paper and cleaning products but many spices/seasonings and other 'basics' for cooking our meals. The back porch was great for evening meals, wifi was handy but primarily used for keeping up with e-mail and sorting out attractions/things to do. We spent some time in Kalispel, were fortunate to be there on a rainy day to enjoy the Art Fair in the park and discovered that the potter from whom we bought gifts for family was actually right across the road. Be sure to check out his 'seconds' table for outstanding bargins.

Although we did have a drive to get to Glacier, we enjoyed stopping along the way for local huckleberries and the best sweet cherries we have ever tasted. Didn't have time to check out the hiking in nearby Jewell Basin as we spent too much time seeing the sights in the national park.

Would definitely recommend this cabin for anyone planning a trip to the Glacier National Park area who would also appreciate experiencing the surrounding mountain valley.

Over priced

  • 1 of 5

We have used home away in the past and have love what we found. This cabin is over priced. My family and I felt like we were staying at a forest service cabin but paying 10x the price for it. The sheets were stained, wifi connection was spotty, there was only 1 roll of tp provided for the whole weekend, and the garbage can was overflowing outside so we had to carry most of our garbage home with us. The back yard was the best part of this cabin.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that your family was disappointed in our cabin. It is a small cabin and not ideal for large parties such as yours. Our maximum occupancy is listed as 10, but I made an exception. Since I had not charged you a cleaning fee, I did have to charge for the additional guests you later added to your party to cover the additional laundry and clean up required. This raised the price above our normal rates. I thought there would be enough bed and bath linens to accommodate the overflow. However, I must have been mistaken about the condition of the extra sheets. We have since purchased new sets of bed and bath linens. Also, it is regrettable that the housekeeping staff had not made the summer’s inventory of toilet paper readily available so that you could find it easily. You were our first guests of the season. There is no garbage outside the cabin so you must have been referring to the garbage in the garage that was left by our off-season tenant who had just vacated the property and had not yet retrieved it. Our rental agreement specifies that the garage should not be accessed by our guests, and also requires guests to pack out their garbage. This is a common requirement in this area of Montana because there is no trash collection service. We provide a map to the container sites where trash is to be deposited. It is regrettable that you did not read the rental agreement you signed on line more carefully, so you would have expected this arrangement. Finally, it is true that the WiFi can be spotty in this area. We have the best Internet Service that is available in this rural area, so there is not much more we can do about that. As you may recall, I spoke with you upon your arrival and asked if I might drop by to address your concerns and needs, however you told me that would be unnecessary. I also refunded you for the amount that you paid for two of the additional guests, in hopes of compensating you for the inconveniences you mentioned. I hope that travellers will see the many other five and four-star positive reviews for this property and understand that we have addressed the complaints in this review. This cabin is rustic but in no way comparable to a Forest Service cabin, as anyone can see from the photographs taken throughout this cabin. We have dropped our rates for the remainder of the season and have limited the occupancy to 8, in hopes that other travellers will give us another chance and have a positive experience at the cabin in the woods.

Montana cabin get away

  • 5 of 5

The cabin exceeded my expectation in comfort: nice beds, cozy living room, dining area, and a well equipped kitchen. The basement provided other options for sleeping. We enjoyed the use of the small grill and dinner on the covered back porch that looked unto a wooded yard. The cabin is in a rural area, with neighbors, but secluded down a long driveway and surrounded by woods. A doe and fawn greeted us in the morning. Hiking and Echo Lake are nearby. The Echo Lake cafe is a must for breakfast. Glacier National Park was a 40 minute drive, and Bigfork/Flathead Lake were 20 minutes away. The state park on Flathead Lake in Bigfork is a great place for a picnic, swimming, boating, or sunsets. I was sad that I could not spend more time in the area, with this nice home to come back to at the end of the day.

relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

It was the perfect place to stay- though we would have been even happier had it been a little closer to the park...the cabin was a great size, everything we needed was there, kept cool in the heat, LOVED the back porch- maybe more comfortable chairs on the porch would be great.. loved the books on Lewis and Clark and the park..

Fun at Cabin in the Woods!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a great week in this lovely cabin. I would even venture to say it was well worth the road trip from Wisconsin! We choose this location to spend time with our adult children, son in law, and boyfriend. We spent most of our time on the back porch, eating, playing games, and generally being silly. The accommodations were lovely, and the cabin had everything we needed. We saw deer most evenings, met the neighborhood potter, and tubed twice down the Swan River. We did some long Glacier hikes, which were challenging ( for us, not the kids), but breathtaking. We also hiked at Jewel Basin, which is a treasure. We had fun exploring the nearby towns and especially loved Whitefish. The setting of the cabin was perfect, and we all found it to be very charming. Thank you for the great stay!

Epic Stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the cabin for 2 months while working on a film project in the local area. I must say, the pictures posted on the site can not do this place justice. It sits back nestled in the woods at the base of a gorgeous mountain range. There is wildlife everywhere and I could almost expect deer in the yard every morning. I will definitely be coming back here and I highly recommend this place for anyone. The rooms are big, beds are comfy, wifi (if you need it) works great and the kitchen is the perfect size. I didn't even need to use the basement, which is basically another one bedroom apartment, but had there been more people it still would have kept everyones privacy and not felt crammed. There is hiking and adventure waiting outside the door. I will be back.
