4 Bedrooms, 3 Full Baths, Comfortable Great Room And Fun Loft. Sleeps up to 13.
Situated on one of the finest pieces of property in Sheridan County, our family's cabin makes a perfect retreat and gathering place. Approaching the cabin, the long circle drive leads to plentiful parking, garage and main entrance. Stepping out of the car, the first thing one notices is the fresh mountain air and the sound of the flowing creek.
The fully equipped kitchen and greatroom are the focal point inside while North Piney Creek and the wildlife are the focus outside. Sit on one of the decks in the mornings overlooking the creek and while sipping your coffee, you can watch the deer and turkey wander by. Walk the path to explore the back of the property or rest in the hammock reading your favorite book.
The greatroom has a high celling, huge plate glass windows, antler chandelier, stacked stone gas fireplace, 10 ft. long solid pine Amish country table, custom Ralph Lauren drapes and slipcovers chairs. There is also a Bose Wave for music, beautiful hand-carved German Armoire and two long down cushioned sofas.
The kitchen has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There are dishes and silverware for 18, Calphalon cookware, ovens, stove, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. For your morning coffee, you have the choice of a traditional coffee maker or the Keurig K-cup coffee maker. Just off of the kitchen is the full-sized washer and dryer.
The master bedroom has a private bathrooms and king bed. The other two bedrooms on the main floor have queen beds with high thread count sheets and down duvets. Each room also has a twin rollaway bed and bedding.
Upstairs, there is a bar area, dance floor and turntable with fantastic vintage records. There is a large deck off of the dance floor area. The fourth bedroom, which is also upstairs, has a full bed, two twin beds and it's own en suite bathroom with shower. All of the bathrooms have wonderful, high end towels.
The wooded three acres make you feel as though you are worlds away from the hustle and bustle. You can walk to all that the town of Story has to offer including Piney Creek Pottery, a nice little library, grocery store, coffee shop, gift shops and churches. The Wagon Box Inn has great food and is just over a mile from the cabin.
Pick up a fishing license from the Story Store and you are welcome to use the our poles. There are also some inner tubes for floating the creek.
Guests can easily take advantage all that Buffalo and Sheridan have to offer. Things in and around Sheridan we recommend are: The Powder Horn Golf Club, Big Horn Equestrian Center and Polo Grounds, King Saddlery and Museum, Trail End Historic Sight, Fort Phil Kearney Historic Site, Kendrick Park and the Sheridan Rodeo.
In Buffalo, we recommend visiting the Occidental Hotel, Saloon & Virginian Restaurant and the Buffalo City Park, home to Wyoming's largest free outdoor swimming pool.
Story Days are a fun local celebration in August which features a parade, fireman's breakfast, cook-off/ pot-luck, craft fair, concerts, horseshoe tournament, Indian ceremonial dancing and kid's rodeo.
Piney Falls Cabin and Story, Wyoming are the place to create memories and likely a place you will not want to leave. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

About Theresa Sullivan Twiford
Our family is from Wyoming, however, military life has led us far from home. So, we currently live in Falls Church, Virginia but spend as much time as we can back home in Wyoming.
Theresa Sullivan Twiford purchased this Cabin in 2013
Why Theresa Sullivan Twiford chose Story
This is truly is one of the finest pieces of property in the Big Horns. For years, we had been looking for just the right place for our family to enjoy each other's company and create memories. The moment we saw this cabin, the creek and the acreage, we knew this was it.

Exactly as described, large, comfortable cabin with wonderful view.
The cabin, although I might call it a house, was perfect! When you drive up to the property you drive down the private drive surrounded by trees and get to the amazing house. The Piney Creek was full this time of year ( May ) and we stepped out of our cars to hear the rushing of the creek and the smell of the pine trees. The house is beautifully decorated, very comfortable and so quiet. We loved that one whole side of the house is windows so that you could enjoy the creek view from many places. We also enjoyed having coffee on the patio's and the large upper deck, each with it's own view as well. The kitchen was one of the most well stocked that we have ever seen. We walked down the road to the Tunnel Inn and also across the street to the Pottery place. Both very enjoyable. We also met the caretaker, Courtney, and it was neat to visit with her about her story in Story. We look forward to being in Story again sometime and will hope that this house is available! Thank You!!!!!!
4th Annual October Stay
This was our 4th October stay at the Story house. We had a great time and very much enjoyed the accommodations. The only complaint was the grill did not work very well as we could not get it to go above 200°. And one of the guests was a mechanical engineer well-versed in these type of issues who thinks it may have been a faulty regulator even though it is a brand new grill. I bring seafood for about five nights dinners from Alaska that needs to be or preferably cooked on the grill. So The grill not working properly did force us to seek alternative methods to prepare the Alaskan seafood. We plan on coming back next year and hopefully the grill will work better.
Tom, We were sorry to read in your review that you had problems with the new grill (we purchased this one at your suggestion from your last review). We want all our guests to understand that Courtney, our caretaker, is always available if problems arise. The ratings from our guests are extremely important to us, and we pride ourselves on providing a clean, comfortable visit that earns a 5 star rating. When a guest makes us aware of a problem, we are committed to quickly making it right. Thank you for planing on coming back next year and we will certainly make sure the grill issue or any other inconvenience you may encounter is resolved.
Wonderful time hope to come back this summer!
Our stay on Piney creek was great! It had been 3 yrs. since our last stay and we noticed how much more accessible stream front there was .Now that John and I are 90 yrs. we found the main floor easy to maneuver plus going in and out of intrance doors. The king bed was comforable just like home! . Our fishermen used the frontage stream and Lake Demet every day..John and I love to sit on the beautiful deck and watch the waterfall and of course the deer and Turkeys roam around!
Beyond our expectations!!!
The cabin/home was by far the nicest place we have stayed as an entire family. Everyone had their own space yet we had plenty of space for all of us to be together. The beds are amazing as are the linens! Everything we could ever have imagined was available to us while we were there.
We walked over to the caretakers pottery shop and for the run down in the history of both the place and the owners.
We would recommend this for any larger family for a weekend getaway or a family reunion for sure.
We are hoping to be back again next year!!!
Perfect for our family gathering
The pictures don't do this property justice. Beautiful with every amenity that you need. Owner was wonderful to work with and the caretaker was a gem (she makes beautiful pottery just down the road). Nestled where WY scenery is at it's best. Can't wait to get back.
This home is a great getaway spot for your group or a family retreat. Beautiful views, lots to do and well appointed home.
With a population of 900 residents, Story, Wyoming is a mountain community located 17 miles south of Sheridan, 20 miles north of Buffalo and only 6 miles from Interstate 90. Yet, as you ascend into the Big Horn mountains, the sights, sounds and smells let you know that you have arrived at someplace very special.
There are some neat shops and restaurants in Story, but the lush mountain landscape and pure glacial run off of North Piney Creek are what make this place so appealing. The trout fishing is wonderful and there are hiking trails which head right out of the town and wind their way for miles up into the Big Horn National Forest. Other things to see are the Fish Hatchery, the historical Fort Phil Kearney and the locations of two important Indian battles- the Wagon Box Battle of 1867 and the Fetterman Fight of 1866. The Big Horn Equestrian Center and Polo grounds as well as the Powder Horn Golf Club are a short distance as well as all that both Sheridan and Buffalo have to offer.
