Cabin in the woods on the water hidden away at the beach

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,100 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

This unit can be your truly relaxing getaway. Enjoy your morning coffee watching sunrises over the Croatan Sound and relax in the evening watching the sun go down from the private dock or the screened in porch.

A true sportsman’s paradise, the cabin is great for hunting, fishing and water sports of all kinds. You can launch your boat or jet ski at 2 nearby boat ramps, one at the foot of the Umstead Bridge in Mann's Harbor, the other on Mashoes Road. Both will get you to a private dock in 15 minutes, or launch your canoe or kayak right from the house. The bottom is sandy around the dock and beach area so kids will love the swimming or just crabbing to catch the night’s dinner.

Just minutes away from Historic Roanoke Island to the east, where you can enjoy the NC Aquarium, The Lost Colony, Island Farm, The Elizabeth II Historic Site, Civil War sites, Art Galleries and The Christmas Shop, just to mention a few of the best local attractions. To the west wildlife abounds on the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge, where you can enjoy kayak tours and miles of nature trails.

5 star dining, in addition to regular fast food and grocery chains are just minutes away. Outlet shopping as well as locally owned unique shops can be found throughout the county. Visit the historic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse or take a drive to Corolla to see the wild horses.

It is all at your fingertips from the rustic charm of this cabin in the woods.

Rustic and off the beaten path!

  • 4 of 5

We rented this home due to the fact it had a boat dock, unfortunately our boat had an issue the day before we checked in so we ended up not bringing it.

I didn’t mind the rustic living and Mother Nature, but my wife and daughter in law not so much. They slept in the Suburban the first 2 nights because of bugs in the bed. After a lot of cleaning I got them to stay in the house.

Watching sunrises of the back porch in the AM and stars in the PM was awesome! Made s’mores with the kiddos at the fire pit! Caught a lot of blue crabs. Kiddos enjoyed playing with the dragonflies and tree frogs.

Bring lots off 1 gallon water jugs-for drinking, for cooking, for making coffee, watering the pets, etc. The water comes from a well and is non potable in my opinion. Bring lots of bug spray!

Property is not as advertised. Very unsafe area.

  • 1 of 5

We were completely unsatisfied with this property. The outside pictures of the beach area are not what's being advertised and the inside was filthy. The dock was unfinished and there is concrete with rebar and other wires around the beach area making it hazardous for anyone wanting to enjoy the water. While my kids were playing in the water and sand they dug up pieces of wire. There is also other junk laying around the property. There are snakes living in the concrete, as we saw a bunch. Very unsafe for our children so after we saw the snakes we didn't go back to the water. Upon arrival there was dog poop everywhere and dog fur all over everything inside the house. If you have small children this is not a good rental property. We had to request a new shower curtain, shower head (old one was taped to the wall), light bulbs, outdoor shower wasn't hooked up, the DVD player was broken, outside chairs were broken, there were dirty dishes in the cupboards and the washer was leaking all over the floor. Whoever came to fix the outdoor shower brought a dog and yet again we had to dodge dog poop. The yellow flies were terrible and nothing seemed to keep them away. The screened in porch was a joke, so many holes bugs and frogs still got in anyway. There were also huge wasps inside the house. The entire indoor area smelled like dog and so did the comforters. We cleaned the entire place because it was so filthy, everything we brought in was covered in dog fur.

We were supposed to stay for 2 weeks from June 9th til June 23rd, we left June 14th and went to a different rental property thru an actual realty office. This property is being faslely advertised and if anyone is wanting to rent this property you should ask for current pictures before paying any money. Very disappointing vacation for us because we were expecting what we saw in the pictures on this website.

a comfy, rustic quiet place

  • 5 of 5

we enjoyed our week : private beach and dock were a plus for us and our kayaks. Our dogs had a wonderful time and I loved having a porch for them to hang out on to dry and de-sand! We also loved the proximity of the alligator national refuge where we saw bears, eagles, otters and , even perhaps the wolves. We did not like the green flies., but the tree frogs were charming! great place for dog lovers and bird watchers.

Granite Falls nc

We really enjoyed our stay here. It was private and secluded and that was exactly what we hoped for.

  • 5 of 5

The cabin in the woods was the perfect getaway that we hoped for. We enjoyed the rustic cabin and the feeling of home. Having a private beach and dock to ourselves was very nice. If privacy, calmness, peace and serenity is what you want and/or need then I'd reccomend this home 100%. Absolutely loved our stay! Darrell, the owner was quick to check in on us and very responsive. Thank you and we will definitely return.

Super cute and relaxing

  • 3 of 5

Very relaxing and way off the beaten path. The property is old but does the trick. Enjoyed having a screened in porch and view of the sound.

Peace and tranquility in a very private setting

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice RUSTIC cabin - nothing is level or plumb and the cabin is very leaky! But it will meet all your needs for a vacation home where you should, and likely will, be spending most of your time outside. The queen bed in the master bedroom was surprisingly comfortable. We had a couple of nights of high winds with the temps down in the 30's but stayed toasty warm & cozy with the wood stove - we stayed at the cabin March 15 - 24.

We felt that the location of this cabin was perfect as we much prefer quiet and privacy, which this place provided plenty of. But it is rather centrally located to the Outer Banks. We visited Frisco (south of Cape Hatteras) and Corolla (near the northern most end of the OBX) and all points in between. We primarily prepared all our meals at the cabin but did enjoy dinner at Stripers Bar & Grill two nights after hiking most of the day in the countless nature preserves. We were pleasantly surprised to find that not only did Stripers have Paleo options for us, but we got it for 50% off because we arrived for dinner at 5:00! A pound of steamed shrimp, a pound of steamed crab and a large plate of steamed veggies for less than $40! Wow!

We highly recommend stopping at the WalMart in Kitty Hawk for drinking water if you are coming from the north. We saw that in someone else's review and were grateful that we purchased water for coffee and drinking. We went to the dollar store in Nags Head for TP, paper towels, and a bottle of disinfectant spray for keeping the kitchen and bathroom clean. Cleaning supplies are not provided (that is mentioned in the ad and the contract) but there is a vacuum and a broom/dust pan to help keep things under control.

Now for the negative that kept me from giving this cabin 5 stars: I mentioned the cabin is leaky? Yes, critters are going to get into the cabin regardless of the season. We vacuumed up at least 3 dozen semi-comatose and some very irate wasps that had gained access to the cabin from the gable end windows over the master bedroom and dropped down into the bedroom during our stay. There was a dead mouse in the washing machine! If the cabin was sealed up and a mop and maybe some basic cleaning supplies were provided, to us this is an easy 5 star vacation spot. If you are picky or easily freaked out by mother nature gaining access to the interior of where you are staying, pay twice as much and go somewhere else. But you will be missing out in our opinion! We LOVED our stay!!!
