KALAPAKI BEACH REVIEW
Five minutes south of the airport in Lihue, you'll find this wide, sandy-bottom beach fronting the Kauai Marriott. This beach is almost always safe from rip currents and undertows because it's around the backside of a peninsula, in its own cove. There are tons of activities here, including all the usual water sports—beginning and intermediate surfing, bodyboarding, bodysurfing, and swimming—plus, there are two outrigger canoe clubs paddling in the bay and the Nawiliwili Yacht Club's boats sailing around the harbor. Kalapaki is the only place on Kauai where sailboats—in this case Hobie Cats—are available for rent (at Kauai Beach Boys, which fronts the beach next to Duke's Canoe Club restaurant). Visitors can also rent snorkel gear, surfboards, bodyboards, and kayaks from Kauai Beach Boys. A volleyball court on the beach is often used by a loosely organized group of local players; visitors are always welcome. Families prefer the stream end of the beach, whereas those seeking more solitude will prefer the cliff side of the beach. Duke's Canoe Club restaurant is one of only a couple of restaurants on the island actually on a beach; the restaurant's lower level is casual, even welcoming beach attire and sandy feet, perfect for lunch or an afternoon cocktail. I like the central location on Kauai of this property, the close proximity to the airport, beaches, walking paths, and shopping centers.
This condo is on the ground floor with 2 lanais and there are nice, gentle breezes that come through. It is in a quiet location in the complex and has a nice garden view.
It is located in an ideal central location on the island and is the perfect place to explore Kauai from!

There are so many nice things to say about this rental. The condo is nicely decorated with a lot of Hawaiian art, comfortable furniture, and a nicely furnished kitchen. Most days there was enough trade winds to keep the condo cool, but we did experience a few humid days because of a tropical storm. It was nice to have the air conditioner in the living room on these days; although it doesn't really cool the space, it does remove the humidity. Diane has thought about this rental as a home and provides all kinds of things you might need. We were so pleased to find condiments, coffee filters, jellies, and nice cookware in the kitchen as well as two gas grills very close to the unit. There was plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, garbage liners, baggies, storage containers, laundry soap, and cleaning agents for our use. (We had just spent 10 days at another condo on Oahu and didn't find any of this and had to go out and purchase all of these items.) There were also plenty of towels, beach items, and a small cooler to use. We loved the location - right across the street from a nice beach, shopping center, and a few nice places to eat, as well as being centrally located to activities on all sides of the island.
We did encounter the foot traffic noise of people staying above us, but if you've lived in a multilevel apartment, you've encountered the same thing. There is some traffic noise that can be heard in the living room or the back bedroom because of the location of the condo is backed up to the main road with a landscape buffer, but again this wasn't a problem for us. Others also mentioned parking being a problem. Again, we didn't have issues. We did what Diane recommended and parked on the upper level and walked down the 6 steps. We were early risers and would often leave by 7 am. and then be back by late afternoon. The parking lot was full when we left in the morning but plenty of parking when we came back in the afternoon or early evening. Can see this to be an issue if you arrive later in the evening.
The condo is clean and the pictures are very accurate with the updates. We didn't see any signs of pests. Diane has a pest control service come as we found out when we arrived home one day to find the note on the screen door letting us know they would be there the next day between certain hours to do their service.
Centrally located, first floor level for those with "bad knees, back & hips"! Love that our "backyard" was a natural forest. We spent many a mornings drinking our Kauai coffee on our lanai. Diane is a great "hostess". Almost everything we needed was there when we first arrived. Anything else we needed or wanted was "just around the corner". Loved the fact that Kalapaki beach & Nawiliwili harbor was within walking distance. Brought back memories of times when my parents would us bring to Lihue to visit our Auntie, Uncle & cousins. This area was one of many stops. I, especially, remember the navy ships docked there. In fact, they even brought their grandkids here when they were younger.
Best blessing of all, we were able to visit with our Ohana & share this beautiful island with our daughter-in-law (her first visit to Hawaii). Only wish it was a longer visit.
A great home away from home. All the amenities we needed and close to shopping, all activities and the beach. Diane was wonderful to work with. We felt very much at home and well taken care of. We would not hesitate to stay here again!
We stayed here for one week in May. The apartment was well stocked, clean and comfortable. The location is near the beach, harbor (where cruise ships dock) and shops. Diane was great to deal with. Parking was a bit of a challenge at times, but was only a temporary problem as work was being done on garages. We used the BBQ, attended the presentation with Kiki featuring Kauai activities (not a timeshare one), and borrowed their free chairs and snorkeling equipment (from main office). Local stores/restaurants we used and recommend- Times supermarket, Duke's Barefoot bar. We also enjoyed a catamaran ride (Blue Dolphins) along the Na Pali coast. We visited several beaches, not crowded. The lighthouse (Kilakua?) on the north shore was worth a visit, for the view and for the bird sanctuary. Kauai is beautiful, we'll be back.
If price and location are your thing this is a place for you. We have stayed at the Banyan Harbor Resort a few times over the years and stayed in different units owned by different owners. This unit was functional and clean and being on the first floor was nice and also not so nice, no stairs but very noisy with creeky floors from above.
The unit is nice with everything you need for a long stay and great for families to save money by making meals at home in the nice kitchen. It seems that the resort is about 60/40 full time residents to vacationers and this is also good and bad. This makes the vibe feel more like condo apartment living than an actual resort. The pool was nice with great views of the bay but this unit was the furthest away from it but just a few min walk. A few pros and cons for you

Cons: noisy from above and from road noise at rear of unit. Musty smell. Not really a resort, took 10 days the get deposit refunded. Lack of Parking was an issue a few times while we were there. AC only in livingroom and got very hot in bedrooms.
Conclusion: if saving money is your main thing and you are not expecting a true Kauai Resort experience this is the place for you. Great place to make meals, shower and sleep.
This rental was perfect. There wasn't one thing we needed that wasn't there right down to ice cubes and a hammer to open our macadamia nuts.sacks for groceries shopping. Coffee and fixing til you get to store. An awesome selection of books to read. Maps and brochures. A huge laundry detergent. We were just happy. Diane goes way out of her way as do the banyan group. We had a great barbecue at the pool 15 people wedding party. They said our condo. Pool and surroundings were way better than theirs and they paid lots more too. There are close by smoking benches which is where we meet lots of great people. Right across the street is the bay. All kinds of shops. Restaurants.A tavern. We Rate this condo and banyan a definite 10 plus. We'll be back. 2 things we had trouble with but not diane fault. The buses don't seem to follow the schedule so car is best. And none of us could work the TV remote. I think it was operator error and we only tried once and didn't miss it one bit. Again thanks diane and all.. rent this ... you won't be sorry. Kathy e55
Located between Nawiliwili Harbor and Kalapaki Bay, this condo is in the perfect location to explore the island of Kauai! 5 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes to Costco, 20 minutes to the south shore(Poipu),45-60 minutes to the north shore(Hanalei,Princeville) and west (Waimea Canyon). 15 minute drive to the multi use path that stretches 6 miles along the coastline in Kapaa. From the condo, walk across the street to the beach; no dealing with parking! Go paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming or arrange a tour. 2 minute walk to restaurants and shops.
