My husband and I grew up in Minnesota where both of us longed for a place on a lake to spend beautiful Minnesota Summer weekends. We love this place but with still working can't use if as much as we would like. We have rented it out to friends and after learning how much they enjoyed sharing our lakehouse we decided to put it on VRBO, to let others experience the Minnesota Summer we love!
Sandra Ebert purchased this house in 2007
My Husband and I bought this home for a vaction rental, because it has all the room for family and friends, a gentle slope to the lake with 200 ft of lakeshore and a yard to play ladder golf, bags and even a whiffle ball game! It has a beautiful spring going through that gives the lake one of the many of it's spring feeds. Jessie Lake is great for fishing and recreational boating.
Enjoy the Northern Minnesota experience with a week of relaxing and fun. Bring your boat for fishing or tubing. Large enough for the whole gang!
Great place to stay then we had a lot of fun. Weather was awesome. Fishing in August is not ideal. A lot of different things to do.
Cabin in the woods! Amazing lake and sunsets! I didn't see a boat on the lake the entire time I was there. The beds where comfortable, fresh and lovely. Wish I could have stayed longer. Lots of game to play. This place would be great for a group/ family get together. We even took in a nice little folk concert in a town near by. I'd love to come back!!! - Julie
When we rent, we expect property to be clean and in working order. We understand each property can be unique and have character. But this property should not be rented out.
We met the caretaker/cleaner on the drive into the property, they had just been there to clean. Unfortunately their version of cleaning was different than ours. A previous tenant must have had large dogs since there was dog hair everywhere (my 7 year granddaughter ran her hand along the carpet and came up with a handful of dog hair), in the kitchen cupboards (we had to wash all dishes we used) and you could not relax on the couch because it smelled like wet dog. The lower level had not been cleaned at all - we had to fully sweep the floors, sweep the walls of cobwebs, etc.
If you are considering renting this "4" bedroom place, think again. The lower level bedroom is only accessed thru a non-standard doorway into a non-finished storage area and then into the room. It's dark, damp and in our words "creepy". We had to keep the dehumidifier running at all times - rotating it between the main room, storage room and bedroom. If the upstairs couches would have been clean we would have slept there - but they were not.
A word of caution - this house has a huge safety factor: the hot water is scalding hot. There was a sign in the kitchen near the sink warning us of very hot water - great. But the water is so hot you cannot even touch the hot water handle in the main shower without burning your hand (we had to keep a washcloth there as a hot pad). The lower level shower only used hot water, the cold did not work - so it was not usable. We had to have the kids wash in only cold water unless we were there to adjust the water for them.
A large yard is great if the grass is mowed. We were expecting the mowers to come at any time so did not call, but during the whole week no one showed up. The caretaker/cleaner had been there so knew the grass was too long to even play yard games in.
Now you may ask why we stayed or call the owners or caretakers. When you spend 8 months planning a family trip, taking time off work and know you have no where else to go - you make the decision to bear it or give up your trip. Since the caretakers/cleaners and had already been there -what were they going to do to fix it?
The owners response to this was we should have called them so they could address things. It would have taken major time to clean; repair hot water; cut grass. Basic items to expect done.
The large front yard beckons the friendly and fun competition of yard games. The lake view welcomes lazy afternoons of reading, dreaming, and pondering. Watching sunsets on the dock and evening campfires on the lake shore is where the memories are made and shared. Early morning coffee and quiet talks while watching the waterfowl wake up too - this is what staying at what I fondly call the ‘Lake House’ is like. I’ve been invited to spend some long weekends there and have always immediately gone into relaxation mode with the beautiful and peaceful, quiet surroundings. This place is large enough to accommodate large families, with ample space for shared meals and games, yet arranged beautifully to allow for that sometimes needed quiet time or mid afternoon naps. It is wonderful place to enjoy that Northern MN vacations you are looking for.
Place was big enough for several friends, family and pets to enjoy a great 4th of July holiday week! We played yard games, swam in the lake, fished, had bonfires at night and played cards. Enjoyed all the amenities and the amazing views. Front deck was great for watching the activities on the lake and we enjoyed several of the local restaurants when we didn’t want to cook in the big kitchen. More than enough space indoors and out... we will be coming back as soon as possible!
Jessie Lake has been rated as one of the top Walleye fishing lakes in Minnesota. As luck would have it the best spot is right in front of the house! The 1700 acre lake is big enough for everyone from fishermen to jet skiers. With a big yard many friendly games of Bags, Ladder Golf and Frisbee have been enjoyed! In the evening the campfires and northern stars are enough to keep you up 'til dawn! Talmoon is aprox. 45 minutes from Grand Rapids when you can spend the day shopping, and is where the Judy Garland Museum is located.
