About Penelope Hzayen

My name is Penny and I live in California with my husband and my 3 boys. We love to travel and explore all corners of the world and meet new faces along the way.

I am from Massachusetts, which makes me overly chatty and outgoing. My husband is from California and is much more down to earth and practical.

Enter 3 boys of extremely different ages and attitudes. One is off to college, one is off to first grade, and one makes a perfect babysitter!

Welcome to life, and I just love it!

Penelope Hzayen purchased this house in 2010

Why Penelope Hzayen chose Princeville

My Husband and I vacationed so much to the Island that we decided to purchase a home. Over the past 2 years we have dedicated our time to redecorating and refurbishing this house to make it into our home away from home.

I love Kauai. From the food, to the beaches, to the peacefullness of the Island, down to the Roosters that I don't even seem to hear anymore, I can't seem to go more than a month without longing to be here again.

What makes this house unique

I have stayed on this island so many times that when my friends said they were going to Kauai I could give them a breakdown of every Hotel on the island. I would give them the pros and cons and then told them why I chose Princeville. Nighttime breezes and privacy blurted out of my mouth. Also, proximity to some of the best food I have ever had and I lived in Boston!

I prefer to be away from the bug bites you get staying down the beaches, and the winds you get coming up from the cliffs and down off the mountains.

Great Clean Spacious house.

  • 5 of 5

This is the 3rd time we stayed at Penny's house, we loved it every time, the house is spacious clean and it has everything we needed, from fully stocked kitchen, to outdoor grill, beach gear and so many other things that this house provides. The house is clean throughout, this kids are happy as they played Xbox while we were relaxing at the house. we love that we can use the beach gear that penny provides, we don't have to buy or bring our own. We love staying here and as it feels welcoming and right at home. This is the best house value in all of Princeville.

There’s no place like home!

  • 3 of 5

I rented this house that seemed perfect for me, my husband our daughters and my parents. It was the perfect set up for our party of six and Penelope gets back to you almost instantly when you’re ready to rent and have questions. The location is great for shopping, hiking to Queens Bath, Light House and the beach. I must warn you however, if you are not use to being in the tropics and the bugs that come with it, this may not be the place for you! It’s an older property and could use some window work to keep bugs out! The first night my kids were so freeked out my husband had to move one of the twin beds into our room so they could sleep with us.

We bought a can of bug spray for flying bugs the next day and moved the girls back, however they were never comfortable after the first night. We even had little black worms that would come up from the drain into the tub at night! Having a drain stopper might have helped that. Also the house is very open with very few curtains so with the lights on at night we felt like the bugs would head our way attracted to the light. During the day everything was fine, but we all started to dread night fall. My girls started calling it the “witching hour!” We have been to Hawaii many times, however this is the first time we used a house instead of a condo or hotel. To try and make my girls feel better I just kept telling them this is “island life.” It didn’t help. I really hated to right this review, because Penny is so nice and the price for this property can’t be beat, but to be honest because our our experience I wouldn’t rent again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at our house. There is absolutely no place like home and its hard to replicate that. Hawaii is a tropical island and there are bugs and mosquitoes in Kauai like all islands, we have a professional company that spray around the house on a regular basis to keep it as controlled as possible. All houses on the island deal with the same pests, we all use the same company to spray. Thank you again for staying at our house.

First-Class Accommodations!

  • 5 of 5

This house was fantastic and we loved everything about it! It was definitely a great choice for us. We stayed here during the record-breaking rains Kauai received in April and thank goodness this house had 2 smart T.V.'s that had Netflix available to watch while we waited for the rains to pass! We hung out in the very spacious living room a lot. The kitchen is huge and had all the pots, pans, utensils, and dishes we needed to cook our own meals. The bedrooms had comfortable mattresses with beautiful bedding and the house was well stocked with all the amenities such as plenty of bath and beach towels. It was so nice having a washer and dryer too. There were also an abundance of beach supplies we took advantage of when we ventured out to snorkel and spend time at the beach. We loved the location because it was within walking distance to shopping and beaches. Thank you so much for making our stay the best ever!!! Our stay here was truly magical and we look forward to booking again in the future!!!!

Great location near the ocean! Large property equipped with everything you’d need!

  • 5 of 5

Home was beautiful! My friends and I could not have asked for a better place to stay for part of our spring break. We spent most of our time exploring Kaui, but were very happy to come back to this place!

Location is close to good local restaurants, and access to the ocean with a short drive/hike. You won’t be able to avoid the one-lane highways, so give yourself some time for the scenic drive to your destination.

This was a great location, easy access to everything including amazing hikes and beachs. The house had everything we needed and very comfortable beds. Penny was quick to respond to all our questions and included tips on where to eat and best beaches.

Thanks Penny!
