About Frances Ponder

After retiring from public school teaching with 30 years, I wanted to do something totally different. When the Matson House became available, I purchased the property and totally renovated the inside and decided to use the house for short term vacation guests. I have two adult sons, Jason and Aaron. Jason was commissioned from United State Naval Academy with a mechanical engineer degree and is a Lieutenant in the US Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor, HI. Aaron earned a degree in physics and is finishing a masters in renewable energy engineering at Oregon Tech.

I also volunteer in juvenile court through CASA (court appointed special advocate) and work sporting events at Science Hill High School.

Frances Ponder purchased this house in 2011

Why Frances Ponder chose Tennessee

Since I was a public school teacher, the Matson House fits my style. It was built as a school in 1900. Matson Institute continued for 36 years. The Matson House is located on adjoining property to my log home and additional acreage. The house is very comfortable and nicely furnished. I guarantee the house will be very clean and ready for you at check in. I am always available for directions, suggestions, or any need you might have.

What makes this house unique

The inside of the house is completely new and very clean. All new plumbing, electrical, foam insulation, high speed wireless internet, HD cable-TV, ADT monitored security and all furnishings create a comfortable home environment. The house is user friendly!

The house was very clean, had all the amenities you need, the owners thought of everything! Great history behind it being a remodeled one room schoolhouse from 1900. Will stay here again for sure.

EXCELLENT

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights while attending our grandson's wedding at Grace Meadow Farms and we were SO IMPRESSED with the condition and especially the cleanliness of this house and the owner of the property Frances who had everything that one would want or use. I have stayed in over a dozen rentals and this property is the absolute best. Wish we had another trip planned to this area in Tn as we would stay here again. Frances is a lovely lady and so willing to meet every ones needs. An absolute 10+ GREAT property and GREAT owner.

Quite Country Setting

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th visit to Tennessee. This was our second time staying in this beautiful home. From the warm greeting by the owner Frances, who scurried to finish making the beds before our arrival, nothing was left out of place. This old renovated 1900's school house is Immaculate and a GEM. A must stay if you are in the area.

All we needed to do was unpack. Frances thought of everything. She even went out of her way to make ice for us again, for our coolers on race day.

This visit far exceeded our expectations and LOVED every minute of it once again. Finding this rental home so close to Bristol Motor Speedway made this trip extra special for us once again. Since our visit was to see the NASCAR race, we arrived a day earlier and got to explore the Natural Tunnel State Park in VA. It was worth the trip. On our way back we stopped at Ridgewood BBQ. If you like BBQ this place is worth a visit. You do not leave hungry.

Frances~ Thank You for sharing your rental home with 2 Maine couples who will definitely return for another visit soon~

Great house, great location, perfect host

  • 5 of 5

It is with trepidation that I tell you how great our experience with the Matson house has been. What if I tell you and it is then not available when I return? It will forever be my first choice accommodation in the area. Completely and charmingly remodeled, very clean and so comfortable. As I read the other reviews, I figure out I am not all that special. The delightful Frances makes all feel special! Thank you for being just what we needed.
