Amazing view!

  • 4 of 5

This house is in a great location with a panoramic view of Lake Curlew. A steep decent gets you to a dock, where you can pretty much throw in a fishing line and get a bite. Nearby Republic has grocery stores, restaurants and other amenities. This is what our family of 10 did during our 4-day stay: Dig for fossils in Republic, hike the Sherman Peak Loop trail (~6 miles -- not too difficult and great views), fish, ride the bike path on the west side of the lake, watch the sunset from the deck, visit the nearby airfield, swim at nearby Curlew State Park, and fish some more. The sleeping would have been tight with 10 of us but 2 of us were more than happy to sleep out on the huge deck under the stars on blow-up mattresses and it all worked out. Joel and Jaida were very responsive to communications.

Overall an ok stay.

  • 3 of 5

Thanks for letting us stay at your home. Location and view from the deck were very nice. Owners seem nice.

The kitchen was nice and well equip.

The down stairs bathroom was gorgeous.

The reasons I say an OK stay are:

1. The up stairs railing has a gap that a small child can fall through. This really should be fixed before any small children stay there. I discussed via email with the owners after our stay and she stated "I should have asked if you had a baby we try and ask normally as I don't think it's good for crawler toddlers" {yet there was a playpen & child pool provided}. I did not see this in the VRBO listing.

2. The upstairs railing and decor downstairs had a lot of spider webs.

3. The home gets extremely hot (87 degrees inside when outside was 95F) when the sun hits all the windows facing the lake. This occurs from 3pm to ~830 pm. We left the windows shut, what curtains were there closed, projector screen down, and small AC on hoping the home will stay cool. It didn't. The small window AC only cools about a 500 sqft room. Not 2100 with vaulted ceilings.

4. The upstairs bath curtain had about 1/2 cup of water get past it. All this water made it to the kitchen counter, via the ceiling, since there is no grout on the tile floor or caulking around the tub base.

5. The upstairs shower head is only ~4.5 feet off the shower floor. I cannot figure out why the shower head is only 4.5 high. There is room for a normal height shower head.

6. The windows were really dirty both inside and outside. I can understand the higher windows not being cleaned often but the beautiful view was obstructed by the dirt and water runs on the outside. I ended up wiping down the two large outside windows so we could enjoy the view more. The inside window latches were dirty and the tracts had dead bugs. These windows hadn't been cleaned in a long while. I don’t understand why we have to pay 125 dollars for a partly clean home.

7. The home is rustic and old west style. I agree the home has nice items in it to look at. However the home was never finished. Missing trim everywhere, .

8. Kitchen knives are in a stereo type cabinet with push glass doors. Easy access for small kids.

Sorry this sounds a little hard but we have stayed in about 15 VRBO homes and your home was our least favorite because of the above issues. Location and view were nice but as a minimum the home needs to be finished, AC installed, windows cleaned and made more small child friendly

Owner's Response: Hello, this is a response from the owners. This guest wrote me and said he had an okay stay, and proceeded to nit pick, to the point that after responding twice, I told this guest I was feeling harassed while at work.. Point one, at no time did this guest respond to my initial outreach after check in. The walk through at check in is to point out any concerns- rather than eat a meal and point out a fly in the soup afterward..literally 2. Due to this check in being a funeral purpose, we reduced our minimum stay to 3 nights rather than 4, and my husband made a special trip to property to accommodate. 3. This home is finished, and rustic, old west cabin style- complete wiith Miner's relics, a gorgeous view of the lake and mountains, and is equipped with a remote, big screen projector, movies, and a flat screen tv as well. If the owner doesn't like the trim or what he feels was lacking, he had every opportunity to point out he was not comfortable and could have checked in to a hotel and been refunded. We do not appreciate passive aggressive guests or behavior- it takes a LOT of effort to run a clean, beautiful, and affordable vacation rental for our guests. Needless to say, this guest is not welcomed back for a future stay. I have been polite, to the point, but enough is enough with this particular guest.. Future Guests, know what you are booking and take an opportunity to preview if you can Be kind, be fair, and treat others homes as you would your own- if not better, as you are guests. This is an exceptional home, with accommodations you would not receive for anything close to this in the area; amenities and view., and courteous owners that bend over backwards to boot! Cheers! Thank you -Owners

Family Trip

  • 4 of 5

We rented the house for a full week. We stay included ourselves, our two kids, and my in-laws. We loved the lake and the room had plenty of room for all of us. There was a night were the thunder storms rolled through and there was plenty of room for all of us in the house.

We were provided a kiddie pool on the top deck and the kids loved going in there first thing in the morning.

The dock was a bit of a hike down and back up but the kids loved swimming and fishing off of it. Lots of fish to catch and the swim ladder made it easy for them to get in and out of the water.

We were able to also take our boat over to the state park for some fun there.

We went into town and did some fossil digging at Stonerose. We actually came back with some fossils!

One afternoon we drove out to Coulee Dam for a tour and the laser show. Made for a late night but nice to be able to do that.

We had one issue with the hot water heater but it was and easy fix and the owners were on it right away to help us. Called us to make sure all was okay.

We had a good time and our family vacation was a lot of fun. The owners always answered all my questions right away and made sure we had what we needed.
