About Sharon Fortune

We bought this house when it was a run down dilapidated old farmhouse, it is over a hundred fifty years old. During the last 30+ years we have completely rebuilt the house, adding a barn and maple sugarhouse and most recently a large addition including our vacation rental apartment on the second floor of the new structure. We are retired teachers who raised our children here. Our kids attended the Elmore One Room School, the only one room school remaining today in Vermont! Brent works the land cutting hay, producing maple syrup, and growing vegetables, berries and flowers. We raise chickens and have a few beef cattle. We love our farmstead in quiet, beautiful Lake Elmore!

Sharon Fortune purchased this apartment in 1980

Why Sharon Fortune chose Stowe Area

The house was originally purchased with a small amount of land, then subsequently we bought the remaining 34+ acres which surround our home. We are on a quiet, dead end town road which affords beautiful views and privacy, yet we are very close to Elmore village, the state park and lake.

What makes this apartment unique

The location of our farmstead is so beautiful, with meadow, mountain and lake views. Every season affords its own beauty. The views from the deck in the apartment are breathtaking. Our location is ideal as we are close to Stowe and Montpelier and only an hour from Burlington.

You Should Visit in the Summer :)

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the week we spent at this peaceful farm. The owners, Sharon and Brent, could not have been more hospitable. The apt. has a stellar view of the lake, which is downhill from the farm. The homemade jam and maple syrup are a treat, and if you are lucky, you will visit on a day that Brent bakes muffins. I can't say enough good things about Sharon and Brent; they went out of their way to make our trip pleasurable. There is a fantastic restaurant/brewery a few minutes away named The Lost Nation; it's adjacent to the Lamoille River Bike Trail. You can rent a bike or two, ride for miles alongside the river: http://www.lvrt.org/, and return to have a delicious lunch paired with the best beer you've ever tasted. There are a lot of hiking trails in this region of the country, and we were lucky enough to traverse quite a few of them. The Fire Tower Trail located in Lake Elmore's State Park (across the street from the farm) is challenging and scenic; the park's short nature trail is lovely. Not far away are many beautiful falls, and of course, Smuggler's Notch is a hiker's paradise. This vacation was one of our favorites: Did I mention the fresh cheese or the creamy ice cream created by the proud cows of local dairy farms? I would like to come again in the fall, but I am so glad that I had a chance to see Lake Elmore's abundant summertime flowers and to taste the fresh strawberries of the season. Thanks, Sharon and Brent!

Lovely country home for a reunion of sisters that grew up nearby

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at your lovely apartment. Wonderful views, quiet, relaxing and especially enjoyed awakening to the sound of birds and cows mooing in the field. The sunsets were awesome! Brent and Sharon were very welcoming and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Thank you for the delicious jam and maple syrup.

Excellent Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We were 3 cousins coming together from London, Boston and Ottawa for a reunion. We enjoyed this beautifully maintained modern well-crafted apartment by the owners, full kitchen amenities, well-heated, excellent wifi, cable Tv / DVD. Lovely setting, not on lake but close to lake and gorgeous view of lake & mountains from the apartment balcony. Sharon was very helpful in responding to my questions and gave great restaurant recommendations. Thrilled about the homemade raspberry jam that welcomed us to the apartment. Lost Nation Brewery in Morrisville had delicious fondue, wholesome food and great selection of beers. Kismet in Montpelier had an exceptional brunch- highly recommended.

Down on the Farm

  • 5 of 5

The farm turned out to be everything my wife and I wanted - a real, working farm, perfect and very affable hosts, a clean and beautifully appointed apartment above the barn garage with a view to the west and Lake Elmore and the mountain behind, convenient location for touring around the area, and even a close-by Urgent Care facility in Montpelier to care for my poison ivy I brought along on the trip...Can't say enough about this place except that we'll be back!

Beautiful accommodations with a view to match!

  • 5 of 5

The hosts of this property are incredibly helpful with local activities to try and how to get there with the help of their knowledge of the shortcuts to get their too. The maple syrup and fresh jam gifts are honest to goodness award winning and the property is super clean, neat, tidy and beautiful. We walked down to the lake for a swim. Hiked to the fire tower across from the house at the top of the mountain and enjoyed some local food that was amazing! Highly recommend the vegan wrap at lost nation brewery, it has stayed with me in my dreams it was so good! Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer, but we would definitely return. Thank you so much for the hospitality!
