We are an English family with grown up children plus grandchildren. We now live near Brighton but are originally Essex born and bred.
We - and friends and family - have been coming to our second home in La Garde Freinet for short breaks and longer holidays since we bought it 15 years ago.
We held our daughter's wedding reception here in 2006 with 100 guests!
Jo Smith purchased this villa in 1999
We love coming to our spacious villa for holidays with the whole family. The lovely pool is a favourite with everyone.
Our friends and other visitors always have a great time and write good ideas of what to do around the area in our visitors' book.
Our house guardian is just a phone call away if we need anything.
La Garde Freinet is a beautiful village with easy access to the Mediterranean. Nearby Grimaud and Cogolin - and of course St Tropez - are just waiting to be visited.
The villa appealed to us because of the number of rooms and the many en-suite bathrooms. There is even an extra shower room by the pool.
There is a lovely terrace with views of the village and a secluded pool.
The grounds are on three levels with plenty of room for the (up to) 10 people the house accommodates.
Truly wonderful villa near lovely village with superb restaurants & ambiance altogether great location ....we will be back
Thank you very much for such a marvelous place for our spring trip to Provence!
We’ve won a week at Huefield, taking part in philantropical event, and now we can say it was truly a pleasant surprise. Quiet place, beautiful surroundings, and plenty of space for everyone in our group of six – everything one needs to have some rest from everyday metropolitan routine.
Besides, many interesting towns are not far away from the villa, and, as there is enough place for a car (incl. a mini-van), there’s no problem with exploring Provence.
We were also charmed by La Garde Freinet, the closest village to us – it is a very cozy and nice place with its own history and remarkable views.
Special thanks to Paul for providing us with all necessary, from fresh products to interesting stories (we’ve broadened our knowledge in botany greatly;))
Hope this was not our last visit to Huefield.
Our warmest regards,

Sitting on Huefield's terrace you would think you were miles from anywhere, but in fact it is just a fifteen minute walk down to the busy little village La Garde Freinet with its good selection of boulangeries, cafes and restaurants.
The house sleeps ten in its very comfortable, clean bedrooms. I was very happy with my choice, the ground floor one with a window opening onto the garden with views over the valley. There is plenty of space, we were a group of ten adults, for peace and quiet if required. Our favourite times were sharing long lazy lunches and dinners at the huge table. There is also an inside one which fortunately we only had to use once.
Huefield is a lovely house and we were happy to spend most of our holiday in and around it, however the Visitors' Book gave lots of suggestions for outings.
I would recommend staying in this delightful house in beautiful Provence.
We had a really wonderful holiday here with friends and our 1 year old, mainly lounging round the pool, eating on the terrace and drinking cocktails at sunset surrounded by rambling passion flowers. Lovely peaceful location, amazing views, excellent boulangerie in the picture postcard village and a house that is perfectly designed for families. Alice Lascelles
This is a lovely place.
House - very well equipped, spacious and comfortable, clean, nicely set out
Outside - numerous places to set up al fresco dining on the large veranda / patio, with lovely views over the gardens to the village and hills beyond
Pool area - pretty, clean, sunny and safe for kids - easy to keep an eye on from the house / kitchen area / verandas. Plentiful comfy poolside furniture etc.
Location is great - very short drive (or easy croissant-fetching walk) from the very pleasant village, but quiet and surounded by lovely gardens and tall trees
Owners - charming and easy to deal with.
This was our first holiday with our one year old baby and we couldn't have hoped for a better time. We flew to Nice from London, hired a car from there and drove to the Villa. All very easy and quick. The villa is up in the mountains and whilst feeling remote is very close to the local town and if you are feeling more intrepid, the coast and some of the more famous resort towns are not too far. We were very happy to stay put and other than a speedy trip to the nearest big supermarket the villa and local town with its shops and restaurants were plenty for us.
We stayed with four other families and whilst that in theory should have been utter chaos there is plenty of space and with the pool and a further lawn set down from the villa we all coexisted very happily. And with kids in bed by 7pm we settled down to cocktails and supper outside on the terrace every evening. Bliss!
Highly recommended for a group family holiday or group of friends who want to get away from the rat race a kick back for a week or two.
Over the past few years we have been very fortunate to visit some wonderful places as a family.
However, the acid test is always, would you recommend somewhere that you've visited to your closest friends or relatives? In the case of Huefiield, the answer is undoubtably yes.
It is a remarkable villa situated just a few kilometre's outside St Tropez. I find it difficult to imagine how one could want for more. There is space for everyone - inside and out. All the bedrooms seem to have en suite facilities; the terraces - a multitude of seating places.
The pool is both a sun trap for adults and fabulous space for children. While we spent time out and about one could easily spend a week pottering about in the grounds alone.
I used one of the many bikes to cycle down to the picturesque village every morning to collect breakfast from the Boulangerie and a copy of the Times from the Tabac. The return journey got the heart rate going a bit but when you looked back down the valley it was so well worth it.
All in all we had a wonderful time. The weather was perfect. The drive to the beaches along the cote d'azur, absolutely stunning. The local restaurants were just what you hoped they would be.
Do make sure you spend time on the first day reading the visitors book, every entry has a useful suggestion. There was a local car rally on during our visit, which our children absolutely loved.
The villa is administered by a very good (local) property management company, which is great when you're trying to work out where everything is. A quick phone call and your question is answered.
We will be going back soon. What more can we say.
La Garde Freinet, an old Provencal village, is situated in the heart of the Maures Mountains. This friendly village is a short 20 minute drive from the Gulf of St Tropez. It has many restaurants and a twice weekly market.
