We are passionate about our land and the animals it supports. If you have an interest in pasture management and buffalo, we'll happily talk your ears off! Campfires, star gazing, sunsets, hiking, biking, and kayaking are our favorite things to enjoy together.
Amy purchased this lodge in 2012
We are committed to restoring native habitat and bringing back the creatures that dwell in them. Prior owners had used and abused the land, clearly more interested in shooting anything that moved rather than enjoying the symbiotic relationship between life and land. The property now serves as a refuge for wildlife and abounds with songbirds, turkeys, blue herons, deer, squirrels, rabbits, coyotes, the occasional bobcat - and buffalo, of course!
Currently, we're engaged in soil restoration, a multi-year process that will re-establish a thriving soil base of microorganisms, insects, and worms - all critical to the soil ecosystem. Our grass is only as healthy and hardy as the soil it grows in. Healthy grass means healthy buffalo, so as Michael likes to say, "We're grass farmers first, buffalo ranchers second."
When we arrived Sunday afternoon, December 8, at the most incredible, soon-to-explode jewel of Missouri, Buffalo Lodge, for a birthday get-away, I was blown away. I have heard rumblings of this “got-to-see-it-to-believe-it” locale and my wife deemed it closer than Big Cedar Lodge (one of my frequented birthday celebration venues) and perhaps almost as nice. She was correct on the former (only 50 minutes from Leawood) and mistaken on the latter…it was every bit as wonderful as that hallowed Ozarks vacation heaven.
We arrived in a dusting of snow, though every step from drive to front door had been swept away. A fresh wreath on the door greeted us as we entered into the pine-finished paradise called “The Lodge.” None of the pictures do it justice. The attention to detail by the owners is almost OCD. Not a speck of grit, dust, cobwebs, burned out bulbs, stains, smears. Our room was topped by freshly pressed sheets, fluffy towels, soft music and an almost zen level of peacefulness. Even the stoneware plates were stacked in correct color sequence! We enjoyed personalized (and beautifully printed) menus prepared in-house by Chef Jaymie who created dinners of chicken parmesan one evening and bison steaks the next. Both were so tender, I could cut them with a fork.
The next morning, I enjoyed the expansive glass windows as I watched the snow drift across the pastures. Not a human in sight. Outside…not a single sound. Nirvana!
On Day Two, the in-house masseuse arrived to provide 90 minute massages in front of the fireplace. In the afternoon, we did a little day-tripping to nearby Greenwood and Pleasant Hill before returning for dinner.

We stayed at Buffalo Lodge for a weekend getaway with friends... It ended up being super cold and snowing, but we all had an absolutely amazing time. The cabin is AWESOME with all the amenities needed for cooking and grilling.. We just hung out, played cards, told stories around the fire and simply relaxed for a weekend.. The lodge is easy to find, is on pavement, but is tucked away and super private. Amy and Michael took us on a bison tour, and although freezing we all had a great time.. We even walked to the lake to check it out... We had a great time while it was snowing, I can't imagine how much fun it would be if we could have been able to sit around the fire pit or hangout at the lake!!!
Very beautiful facility and the hosts were very accommodating. Everything is first class, and you will need for nothing other than the food you want to eat. The trip to the buffalo pasture was fun and educational. We certainly could have used warmer weather but no control over that. But the accommodations had warm blankets for everyone on the hay ride. Great place! Get there with all your family members!!! Very clean and we'll-maintained!! Top notch facility!!!
We rented the cabin for a Christmas celebration with family and family birthday party. The cabin had everything we needed to prepare meals. The beds were very comfortable. All the extra touches including robes, chocolates at the bedside, among others were appreciated. The view of the buffalo was extraordinary. The owners were very helpful. I would highly recommend this property for a quiet getaway.
We arrived just before Christmas and had a wonderful time-- the accommodations are five-star the hosts are wonderful and accommodating and the environment is everything you expect there are no disappointments whatsoever. High quality bedding good furnishings great space good family activities I can't say enough good things about the Buffalo Lodge and Amy and Mike
Our recent stay at Buffalo Lodge was delightful!! Our hosts were very attentive to every detail. There was something for everyone, all ages. Our tour of the buffalo herd and hand feeding them their "cookies"was fun. The kitchen was so well supplied with everything we needed. We enjoyed making S'mores by the fire at night. Our next stay will be longer than just a weekend.
Our family enjoyed the secluded setting of the Buffalo Lodge south of Kansas City. It provided both plenty of nature and elegant furnishings inside. We love to cook together as a family so the arrangement of the kitchen and eating areas were ideal. Among some of the best fun was a family ping pong ball tournament, relaxing in the media room and setting up the lower patio area for family pictures. Each person I talked to while making the arrangements was kind and anxious to meet every need of our group. The tour with the buffalo was outstanding and will always be remembered as a highlight of our stay. We cannot thank everyone enough for providing this type of facility for special events.
