We left Colorado for more solitude and a quieter environment in Southern Utah. We have been married for 30 years. Ricki is a kitchen designer and Sandy makes ever-green videos and whacky videos for fun. Hiking and backpacking are common activities for us.
Sandy Hammack purchased this house in 2013
Due to high demand for our other Holiday Home in Escalante, La Luz Desert Retreat, we built La Luna Desert Retreat on the adjacent lot to accommodate larger parties with the same spectacular views.
We love watching the big sky light change over Escalante National Monument from the living room sofa or while preparing meals from La Luna's kitchen.
We had a freak snowstorm and lost power for 9 hours. These guests really went with the punches by making the biggest snowman yet in La Luna's history.
They also left La Luna sparkling clean after a week's stay. I want to thank them for being so considerate and flexible.
Couldn't ask for a more comfortable jumping off point to explore Bryce Canyon, Dixie National Forest and Grand Staircase. This is the place to book if you are looking for adventure in Utah. Great for our little family of three.
We had an amazing stay at La Luna. We never met our hosts, but they seemed to have thought of everything we might need. We had been to the Escalante area before and loved it, but staying at La Luna made our stay even better than we'd hoped. We hiked each day and had a warm and lovely spot to return to each night to cook dinner, relax and enjoy the spectacular view. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
LaLuna is well appointed and clean. Lovely views out the living room window and generally quiet. This house is a modular-type home set at the end of a regular neighborhood in the very small town of Escalante. It was very convenient to our day hikes and we found a couple of good places to eat in town. I would suggest perhaps one more easy chair with ottoman as we had 4 adults and lounge around seating was difficult. Sharing a bathroom between two couples was also a bit awkward, but we made it work. The temperature was always very nice, so we did not have to use the A/C. Opening the windows provided a nice breeze during the day and night. We appreciated that common condiments were left in the fridge even though we didn't do any cooking. I would recommend this to friends, especially a couple or a small family.
We booked the place online because of unique design of the house. Boy, the place was exceeded the expectation. The owner was easy to contact and got the information about the place. The check in and out were easy as well! Mostly the place was so greatly designed that we felt very relaxing and comforting. It was very modern, it was very spaces, and it was well equipped place. In addition, we had been tranquilized by the beauty of the Escalante landscape. The scenic drive to capitol reef national park, what a trait!!!!
We absolutely loved our stay at this property! Easy access to many of The Staircase Trails made this location prime for us. Waking up in the morning and watching the sun rise on the mountains was simply priceless! We have already shared this location with many of friends, and they look super excited when we show pictures of the property. I see this place being harder to rent in the future.
My husband and I stayed four nights at La Luna (August 1 - 5) and found the home to be perfect in every way. The views from the living room are gorgeous. The house is well designed and well equipped. Some small things that are annoying to have to purchase for just a few days are provided: laundry detergent, coffee filters, paper towels, selected condiments, salt and pepper. The summer nights in Escalante are cool and we loved being able to open all the windows for wonderful breezes throughout the house - no air conditioning was needed. It's obvious that this home is immaculately cared for.
Canyoneering is popular (Peek-a-Boo & Spooky).
Scenic Highway 12 - famous.
Calf Creek Falls - 6 mile hike (out & back) with 100 feet water falls.
